This could have been a 5-star review, but...
We were positively impressed by the HPH work crew. They seemed to be efficient, professional, reasonably careful, and they did a good job of cleaning up. This, plus the reputation of the roofing manufacturer, helps to make us confident that we now have a "lifetime" roof.
We also liked the inspection efforts and presentation of the sales pitch. We liked the fact that the Project Estimator went into the attic, investigated, and documented the issues with the old roof (with photos). We also liked his clear, low key sales pitch and the description of the available options and technologies. As a result, we signed the contract without getting certain promises in writing, let alone doing any comparisons.
This appears to have been a mistake, given that we then had multiple contract-related issues with HPH. The first had to do with the repairs on the barge boards. When we contended that these repairs was included, we were informed (quite strongly) that the contract said it was not. Only later was it "discovered" that the repair (and the purchase of the boards themselves) was, indeed, included in the contract.
Another issue has to do with the painting of the new barge boards and new plywood that shows under the eaves. We had assumed that HPH would take care of all this, as part of what we thought was a turnkey solution. Somehow, however, that question slipped through the cracks in the initial discussion. So now we have another significant expense to deal with and we will need to hunt for a painting firm to handle this.
Finally, there is the question of the payment schedule. We were quite specific about not wanting financing, but we were still told, multiple times, that multiple payments could be made and that we had a full year to make them! We confirmed this several times; sadly, not in writing. Now, we find ourselves making some unexpected arrangements, in order to comply with what amounts to a balloon payment.
Consequently, although we have asked for a price on the touch-up painting, we're a bit chary about actually making any more deals with HPH. We really hope that the roof is as solid as advertised, since we don't want to have to rely on HPH to make any needed changes going forward.
In summary, we're not in a mood to recommend HPH to others. (Non-borrower, beware.)
We hope that you can find a way to improve things, going forward. read more
