My husband and I stumbled across this store and loved it. Many stores in downtown Bar Harbor start to feel the same but The Beehive has a different buzz about it. The interior was quaint and classic but it also had a clean, modern flair to it. I spent most of my time looking at many whimsical products they carry from Fred (aka Genuine Fred) before settling on two potholders with sassy sayings like, "Recipe for Disaster." We also looked at hip crewel pillows, candles and souvenirs. Also, we enjoyed the pretty "Greetings from Acadia Nat'l Park" mural. The employee was friendly and if my suitcase wasn't busting at the seams I would have spent even more money here. This just might "bee" my very favorite store in Bar Harbor.

We asked a very valid question about one of the pieces and they both rolled their eyes at us and talked to us like we were stupid. My nephew had been in the store after we had left and witnessed a different couple buying something and those same employees were super rude and after they left my nephew heard them say "stupid tourists". I came here last year and had a great experience but who ever they decided to hire needs an attitude adjustment.

Finally, I found delicate, handmade silver earrings shaped like blueberry leaves in My Darling Maine. Perfect! I wore them to work my first day back - and lost one. I was heartbroken. But I contacted Victoria to buy a replacement, and she took the time to send me individual pictures of every pair of blueberry leaf earrings she had in the shop (because they're all unique!) so I could choose. And then she mailed them to me in Virginia. Now my beautiful blueberry leaf earrings are a sweet reminder of our family vacation in Maine AND of the power kindness can have over loss. Wow, I can't believe there are not any reviews for this lovely store at the corner of West St. and Rodick St. in downtown Bar Harbor. After peeping through the store windows after hours I made it a priority to return to this gorgeous shop the next day. I enjoyed looking at puzzles, quality door knockers, fancy lotions, lovely artwork and such. The employee working was also very kind. If it weren't for an overstuffed suitcase I would have made a big haul here. This is definitely one of the most beautiful and tasteful stores in Bar Harbor. Luckily, owner Michelle and I played email tag to confirm my visit for a Monday morning appointment. Spruce & Gussy has different nooks with Kitchen and Beauty items, Books, a Children's corner, some Women's shawls and gorgeous silver jewelry- all locally made. Search more carefully and you'll find high-end pieces and modest ones also. Her gifts have a distinctive Bar Harbor flair without 'Bar Harbor' being all up in your face if you know what I mean. There's no shortage of choices here. Basically everything she has, I wanted for me too.
