In November they began construction on our basement. My wife noticed that it was put in the incorrect angle and told the project manager. He acknowledged this was true and said nothing could be done until the owner came back from Africa. We spoke with the owner he acknowledged the mistake and advised it was going to be corrected. It never was. He would continuously tell us that he was working with an engineer and an architect. Several months had passed with nothing being done. We were contacted by an agent from the lending institution and advised to contact an attorney. We tried to contact the owner, and he would not return our calls. He eventually abandoned the project and we were left with an absolute eye sore. This company claims to be Christian owned however they are highly unethical and never tried to fix a problem they created. We had to eventually have the basement demolished and the soil compacted again, so it could be sold. What we were hoping would be our dream home turn into a nightmare. Do not do business with this company at all. We also found out that the owner conveniently declared bankruptcy as well.

Unethical business practices!! Avoid at all costs!…read more My husband and I had decided to put our life savings into a remodel. We received two quotes from Innovative Building and Remodeling in January and February 2021 to conduct a remodel of our attic for $62,961 and $75,051. We were very clear with the contractor that if the remodel went over $80K we would not be able to proceed as this was all of our savings in the bank. They were reassuring about their quotes, and we trusted the contractor, which was our biggest mistake. We felt pressured to pay a deposit of $5,000 "to secure labor" and to put us "on a schedule", and they indicated that they were filling up fast so we would need to pay the deposit quickly. We paid the deposit in March and less than two months later we received a THIRD quote for the remodel for $136,897 - MORE THAN DOUBLE THE ORIGINAL QUOTE. This is even after our architect made adjustments to the project, which resulted in cheaper material costs. We were blind sided and felt our dreams ripped apart as we had made it very clear to them that we could not proceed with the remodel if it went above $80k. Increasing labor and lumber costs were sited as the reason for the outrageous increase. We could have shouldered a 10-20% increase but double the original quote is unethical and egregious. Why was this not discussed or factored in? We were told that "that is the price that it is now. We have a lady from California who is paying this price". We asked for our deposit back and received half, but that they would keep the remaining 50%, while our project was put on hold. We were told to call back at the end of the year to see if costs had gone down and we could proceed at the original two quotes. I called back in December 2021, only to be informed that although lumber prices had gone down, they would not be able to conduct the remodel at the original cost estimates. They advised they would not return the deposit as this had been "exhausted". It is not industry practice to charge $2500 to provide quotes on a job. We have asked for invoices and copies of signed contracts multiple times but have not been sent any signed paper work. Why not? This behavior is unethical. You cannot pressure clients to pay deposits and then turn around and DOUBLE the quote two months later and keep the deposit. If I can prevent other unsuspecting clients from being swindled and mistreated I will consider that I have conducted a valuable public service to hardworking Idahoans on local wages who do not deserve to be treated like this. Avoid at all cost!!
