I thought I could do the rest myself, but I realized my limitations and looked for a contractor to grade the planting areas, fix a grassy area that was a mess due to tree roots, fix the irrigation including a whole new drip and replacing the sprinkler zone. In addition, we needed a concrete walkway and some stepping stones. Kam from Art of the Earth (AOTE) came to provide a quote and it was clear he had both a deep understanding of plants and a sense of how to use them within a landscape to create art. He focused on year round color and explained how that would be achieved. We agreed from the beginning that the look I wanted to achieve was as natural as possible without straight lines. The project manager, Tyler, the foreman, Jose and Hernon worked with focus on achieving the vision. I could tell this by the way they would stop, standback and assess the progress. We communicated routinely, and they all listened to our thoughts attentively. There were some additions and subtractions from the initial quote and the price impact was agreed upon promptly and fairly. They cleaned up at the end of every day's work which my wife was particularly happy with. Communication was great throughout, and there were no surprises except they surprised me with ways to surpass my expectations with their focus on achieving our goals. I wholeheartedly recommend AOTE for any work, but especially if you are looking for an artful (not slapped together) look.

DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!…read more Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience with Art of the Earth Landscaping. After recently purchasing a cabin in Donnelly, we hired this company to improve our curb appeal by planting trees and shrubs at the front of the property. All three trees they planted failed to survive the winter, even though it has been less than a year since installation. We immediately contacted the company to request replacement and reminded them that we had paid extra for a warranty. After extensive back‑and‑forth communication, they ultimately refused to honor the warranty and informed us we would need to replace the trees at our own expense. We consulted with another local nursery to understand what may have gone wrong. Once we shared the types of trees that had been planted, they advised us that those species are not suitable for the local climate and should never have been recommended in the first place. This experience reflects poor business practices, a failure to uphold contractual obligations, and a lack of accountability for their work. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, the agreed‑upon warranty was not honored. We are now left paying out of pocket to correct a mistake that should never have happened. Given that there are many landscaping companies in the valley, this is one we would strongly recommend overlooking.

After meeting with Ron, we had a vision for our yard far beyond what we could have imagined...and we love it. We turned our basic new-construction yard into a gorgeous, park-like oasis. David and his team are truly top-notch. They showed up everyday, worked hard everyday, their attention to detail is readily apparent...and they are true craftsman. Not only that, they took time at the end of every day to clean and sweep the work zone in front of the house to minimize the impact on our neighbors. If you are looking for high-quality, professional and good people...look no further. The before and after pictures speak for themselves. P.S. We didn't know what pit drains were or why we needed them...now we do. With all the recent rain, we have no standing water in the yard. An engineering marvel.

First time we met with Ron I knew we were going to go with him. Just a great family man and all around human being. David did an excellent job on getting our yard knocked out and communicating with us throughout the process. Juve was also exceptional in getting things done on time and communicating as well. We couldn't be happier with the way our yard turned out. Very trustworthy and professional family business.

If you have a brain in your head, you will NEVER contract with Jon Barker of Barker Landscape to do…read moreanything to your property. We contracted with this clown to provide a 5,000 gallon precast concrete vault to store irrigation water for the sprinkler system he was supposed to install in the front, side and back yards of our home, and after grading, provide decorative rock and paver walkways. He was supposed to start July 12, but didn't show until the 14th. He scraped about an 8 square foot area in the back and created a huge mound of rock and dirt in our front yard, then left leaving all of this and the skid steer he had rented from Big Sky rentals with it. After 10 days of no response to texts, emails or phone calls, I called Big Sky to determine if they had heard from him. They had not and informed me that he owed them a large amount of money, that they had been trying to find him and their skid steer. I told them where it was and they arrived within 30 minutes to pick it up. They did state they have to hound him for payment. I accused him of fraud via both text and email and magically he called and provided a bunch of lame excuses as to why nothing had been done on our job. He said he would be on site with our job every day from that day forward. Needless to say he did not. He also admitted he could not provide the vault he had promised. During this time we had checked with both local precast companies and only one had even heard of Jon Barker and that he was asking about a 2,000 gallon septic tank when they advised him they can't make a 5,000 gallon vault. He subcontracted the sprinklers and grading to someone else. During the install of the sprinklers I asked him why they were not grading 2" down next to the house to place decorative rock. I was then informed he was going to use wells and raise the level of the ground. For those of you who don't know what wells are, trust me, you don't want them, they are nasty. I told him that was never mentioned in his estimate/contract and that he would need to do the grading. He advised me he would have to charge me more. I informed him that would not happen. He contacted the sprinkler subcontractor and they abandoned the job half done. This was on August 3rd. The whole job was supposed to be completed August 9th. As of today, 8/24/2021, our attorney is trying to locate Mr. Barker in order to serve him with a demand letter, which (no doubt) will turn into court proceedings. We are also living with trenches all over the yards that we have to be careful of. As we are both in our 70's, that could be very dangerous. There are sprinkler hoses sticking up out of the trenches, it's just a mess. So please, if you actually want the work done by someone who actually has a contractor's license that did not expire in November 2020, find someone, anyone else to do the work. This guy will steal your money, lie to your face and not do the job he is contracted to do. Good luck!
