When we went in for our consultation, everyone at Adkins Funeral Home was very compassionate and helped us through a very difficult experience. Walter, the Funeral Director, guided us through the decision making process, explaining every detail of the options we had for the services. When we needed things explained several times, because it is hard to focus when you are grief stricken, he was always very patient and understanding. Walter was extremely professional. His experience and knowledge of what needed to be done every step of the way was a relief and weight off of our shoulders. Once all the arrangements had been made, we felt at ease in knowing everything would be taken care of. They spent time getting to know us and learning about our Father so they could help us in honoring his life. The Funeral Associate, Sheri, helped us write the Obituary and she took care of getting it published in the paper and on their online Obituaries page. A beautiful Memorial video was made from our pictures of our Dad, it was thoughtfully made and was very touching. They took extra care and consideration to make sure our wishes were met and that everything went smoothly. I highly recommend Adkins Funeral Home because the compassionate care and professional services help the family through an extremely sorrowful process in a way that gives peace and closure.

Alabama in synch with the arrangements being handled locally by a family member in Fairborn for my sweet, precious Mom-in-Law's funeral which was held May 11, 2023. Thank you, Susan! She also helped me track down 2 floral arrangements my work [who so generously and kindly] provided for the service. She is poised, polished, helpful and responsive, and has a lovely manicure by the way! She arranged for us to pick up one of the arrangements at the funeral home proper after the graveside service at Dayton National Cemetary and the man who helped me at the funeral home was very kind, friendly, and helpful. Belton-Stroup handled my Father-in-Law's funeral in Feb. 2012 and my sweet Mother-in-Law, who arranged his service, had zero complaints and everything went smoothly [both at the funeral home service and graveside at Dayton National Cemetary. Then I was told it was for funerals & cremations. Fast forward four years, I filled out online forms for more information or phone call for Newcomer and another well known national funeral and cremation business. Julie M. called me on a Sunday and we made an appointment to meet on the following Friday at Newcomer- Centerville. Julie is so nice and down to earth and gave all important information needed for my own cremation. My real relief came when Julie told me about payment plans. I didn't know there are so many choices for cremations. My meeting with Julie was far beyond my expectations. I purchased a plan. When I left I felt such a sense of freedom. I like having a voice in my last 'adventure' on earth. Thank you Julie for such a good experience.

Both funerals were with "funeral honors" consisting of the playing of TAPS by a ceremonial bugle, folding of the American Flag, and the presentation of the flag to the next of kin. Dayton National Cemetery has their own Honor Squad available to augment the Department of Defense personnel performing military funeral honors, by firing a 3-round rifle volley. Which was included in both funerals. I especially like the peaceful, rhythmic layout of the cemetery. Attributed to Chaplain (and Capt.) William B. Earnshaw, the cemetery construction is the lofty Soldiers' Monument around which faceted, concentric rows of graves are arranged. Two features found here are common to many older national cemeteries. There are two ornamental 19th-century cannons located at the base of the Soldiers' Monument, and seven "Bivouac of the Dead" verse tablets. [This information is from their website.] I also found it interesting the cemetery was connected to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (NHDVS) [which served many uses including a hospital] by a tunnel in 1870 aka as the "tunnel of death." The arched tunnel connecting the cemetery and the hospital featured rustic stone and a metal gate. I didn't know they offered this: "Avenue of Flags program: A deceased Veteran's flag may be donated to the cemetery at any time to be flown along the "Avenue of Honor." The full complement of flags is flown on Memorial Day throughout the entire cemetery. On Veterans Day and the Fourth of July holidays, the flags will line the main entrance of the cemetery along Wisconsin Avenue. Flag donors will receive a letter and Certificate of Appreciation for their donation." This is a well-organized, well-laid out cemetery that is very honoring of our Veterans.

Even tho the crowd was large, Cemetery staff quickly moved the line of cars along so everyone was able to find parking. The ceremony itself was beautiful. Veterans, their military spouses, POW's who didn't come back from the war and members of each branch of the armed forces were recognized and honored. Following the wreath ceremony spectators where invited to help laying wreath onto the graves.

My grandmother, like most grandmother's had many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.. Many of us traveled very far distance to be there, and this place went out of its way to make us uncomfortable. 1st of all... no water, or drinks were provided or offered, 2nd my father's church provided meat, and cheese trays and were not given a private space to put this food.. they had a lobby but this space was occupied by another viewings family as well.. we were told to put a sign saying whose family it was for... seriously... then a man stood outside this room and would not let anyone leave the room with food or drink. He made comments like this isn't a restaurant, this isn't a place for children, etc. When my sister wanted to take our mother some water into the actual viewing, he made a big deal about this... I just think that this wasn't a great experience to celebrate and wonderful grandmother.

After an entire year, there is still no death date on her name plate and the memorial bench is STILL not placed. Unfortunately, the staff at Heritage Hills has prolonged the grief process for my entire family. Their lack of communication, unkept promises, and excuses have continued even with a change of staff. My family has been more than patient with the staff and all we have expected is for contracts to be upheld in a timely manner. I would absolutely NOT recommend Heritage Hill to anyone that is looking for a smooth experience during a stressful time of losing a loved one. Update 11/2/22 I have emailed the business at the customer service email below and they have yet to respond to that email. I am unable to respond to the generic reply below.
