I love everything about this rink, the only issue being it can be difficult to find parking sometimes, especially if there is a Silvertips game going on as well.

Southgate Roller Rink - Disco Ball in the rink!

Southgate Roller Rink

What a throwback! We…read morecame to Southgate Roller Rink for a birthday party and it was such a blast from the past. I spent my youth roller skating at Skate King in Bellevue and didn't know this place even existed. The roller rink is attached to the bar and across the parking lot, there's another building with the arcade and karaoke. It's definitely old and rundown, but that just adds to the nostalgic charm. We had fun putting our son on roller skates for the first time and they still do all the fun rink stuff like limbo, races, etc. Rental skates could use an update, but overall this is a great place to hang out for a few hours and skate.

I visited South Gate Roller Rink this evening around 9 PM with my mom and her two friends. I was…read morereally looking forward to showing them this local skating rink for the first time. When we walked in, the bouncer was sitting just inside the door. I had my ID ready expecting him to check it. We told him we were thinking about going into the rink but wanted to take a look first. He immediately got dismissive and said there was a cover charge. When I asked if we could just peek inside before deciding, he sarcastically said "would a night club just let you take a look if they were charging a cover?" Like that was not already obvious enough, he then went out of his way to mock the way we asked the question and told us he would have let us in if we had just asked differently. We were not trying to get in for free or cause any trouble. We were a group of women just looking to have a fun night out. To be spoken to that way, especially in front of my mom and her friends, was completely uncalled for. I will not be returning as long as this person is working the door.

My kids have been coming here for years, long before the new ownership. I hear they're doing some…read morerenovations, which are long overdue. Very good family friendly spot and they do what they can with the space they have. The only downside is the consistent lack of food/snacks/games. 1/3 or or more of the very few games they have are ALWAYS out of order. The food is not always good and very often sold out as they don't make much during sessions -they mostly reserve the pizza just for the rooms. The candy machines are awful - all the decent stuff is regularly empty and the full sided candy they offer is about 3-4x the size price (i.e., the really small bag of lays is $3). Plus I once bought a candy bar there for my kid and the chocolate looked and tasted old, which means their stock rarely moves. Also, would be great if they offered some adult beverages on tap. FYI, it's never a "true" experience here unless u catch a glimpse of the older white gentlemen casually solo out dancing everyone on the rink. I think I will nickname him "White Lightning".

Adult skate night was THE most fun I've had in years! The DJ was outstanding. He knew how to mix…read morethe music and read the room to keep people skating. First of all, the music never stopped. It just flowed from one song to the other. It slowed down to let people rest while skating. Then after a while he gradually picked up the beat until people were up bouncing again. You cannot buy that type of skill...you have to have some YEARS & Experience on you to learn that! ElCentro skating rink was friendly & Inviting with security on campus. Free ice water at the snack bar. Newly renovated bathrooms. Nice rental skates & blades. Tables, chairs and rental lockers for those who need them. There is a small arcade for the kids but I did not use. My girls ordered fries, "They were perfectly salted." Painted murals on the walls with the color scheme nicely done. They have a skate store where you can buy stuff. I noticed a prize ticket store for the arcade. If you want an upgrade to your regular skate night, and if you are grown, choose to go to Adult Skate 18+ and have a great time.

I have been taking my son every season since I moved here, but I'm already quite tired of the…read moreinconsistent staff attitudes. Once I buy the season pass, why do they still make me get a wristband and wait in a long line? Some staff told me to bypass the line, others said I still needed the wristband, and some even said I had to stand in the same line just to get the wristband. Also, like today--when my party walked in, one customer was trying to find the ticket prices, and we already had our passes ready and hanging around our necks. Another staff member was sitting behind the check-in staff. Why couldn't he help us get the wristbands and ask for our shoe sizes? Isn't that how you excel at your job--by noticing customer needs and stepping in, rather than staying idle and only doing the tasks assigned to you? That way, the line would move much faster and everything would run more smoothly. Honestly, it feels like they're just enjoying the free ice-skating perks instead of focusing on customer service.

The rink is a little bit small and can get a little crowded. My main complaint is that the skates…read morefeel really cheap and don't seem properly cleaned. I went back to change my size, and I noticed a bunch of mismatched skates just lying haphazardly throughout the skates rental area. They let me know that they had run out of my size, which wasn't surprising given that it looked like my size was probably somewhere lost within the piles of shoes strewn everywhere.

This review is specifically for the pool(s). The facilities are really good, although the changing…read moreroom/showers are fairly primitive. The salt water pools are both nice--a good sized lap pool and a warmer leisure for water walking and kid fun, as well as a river for floating and relaxing. There is also a giant water slide. The downside is the management of the pools, or lack thereof. Don't expect rules to be enforced, especially in summer, when the lifeguards are almost exclusively teenagers. Kids play in the lap lanes, which disappear with little regard to the schedule. I saw a child dive into the shallow end of the kids' pool and not one of the three lifeguards said anything or perhaps even noticed. Usually there's only one swim lane during aquafit, even if the class is sparsely attended. If you want equipment--water weights, for instance--you often have to hunt down someone to get them for you from a back room. Most gyms I've been to have that equipment readily available. During aquafit classes, the music is so loud that the people in the water often can't hear the instructor, and the instructors are already miked. The volume is headache-inducing at times. Additionally, the music itself is generally very bad. In the morning, it's the same hits of the 70s on a loop ("American Pie" every morning gets old quickly) and in the evenings it's even worse. Little effort seems to go into matching what people in the aquafit classes might enjoy--it's just typical aerobics music, with no imagination or common sense put into the song choice, given that the majority of the people in the classes are 65-plus. (Pre-1960 music actually had a beat--people jitterbugged to it!) I mention music because it's loud, there's no escaping it, and having contemporary country (for example) blaring in your ear isn't always what you want when you're trying to unwind after a long day.
