From the moment I first connected with Randy to check availability, to his gracious and warm greeting at the front door and through to our last good-bye, it was evident that his goal was to make our stay a memorable one. He succeeded in his objective far beyond our already high expectations. The public areas, our room with all the attention to details, not to mention the amazing 3 course healthy and delicious breakfast, all added to a most enjoyable time. There are many reasons people own B&B's. We just came from one the previous evening that was nice, but it was also apparent that money was a driving motivator. Randy is a businessman - and a very good B&B businessman at that - but we were made to feel as though profitability was simply a byproduct of an extra-ordinary stay. This claim is further substantiated by the crazy low rate he charges for his rooms! I hesitated to write this review because I selfishly don't want others to know of this little gem of a place but writing these heartfelt thoughts is the least I can do to show my appreciation for the wonderful night we spent at the Stewart Inn. Thanks, Randy and Sara. WE WILL BE BACK!

To give you an idea of how wonderful our stay was, I have not written a Yelp review in almost two…read moreyears, but felt so compelled to share and spread the word about this place that I came back just to write about how amazing our stay was. My two friends and I wanted to take a little mini getaway to get some snowboarding at Granite Peak (4 hours from Chicago) and spent quite a bit of time looking at hotels around the area. I stumbled upon this bed and breakfast, and can confidently say it is one of the best hidden gems that I'm glad I found. First off, it is only 15 minutes to Granite Peak and the price is comparable a lot of the hotels in the area. We stayed in the River Suite, which was the whole upstairs and had a bedroom with a balcony and an adjoining sitting room that had a queen Murphy bed and it's own mini fridge. I'm pretty sure there's a fireplace in each room. The whole space is amazing as it sits along the river and the large windows, both in the suite and the living area, offer great views. With a little snowfall it really had that cozy winter feel. The place is only a few years old so everything was very modern. The downstairs common area had a full kitchen, a pool table, large tv (with Roku), and comfy couches/blankets to hang. There's a sauna that we took advantage of after a long day boarding. Both nights we were there we made dinner and hung out in the common area watching football, playing pool, kicked back some drinks, and cuddled with their dog. Full disclosure, we were the only rentals for those two nights and the two other rooms (Willow and Birch) are also downstairs, so I'm sure it would've been a different experience and we would not have been as comfortable or been able to hangout as freely down there if other occupants were also there. The best part of our two night stay had to be the hospitality of Dan and Margaret. Easy to communicate, accommodating, and super friendly. Margaret is quite the baker, we could not stop eating her ginger snap cookies. The first night we were there Dan brought down some of his fig infused vodka for us to enjoy. They didn't have to (as their website says three course breakfast on weekends and complementary continental breakfast during the week days), but they offered and made us breakfast both mornings. Happy they sat down and ate with us that second day. If you haven't gotten the point, this is the perfect little getaway and a must stay if you're going to make it out in the area. I hope to come back again soon.

The owner did a really bad job of communicating. We actually had to track down the previous owner…read more(it was called Rosenberry Inn) after many of our emails and phone calls for over a month went unanswered. After contacting the previous owner we were able to make contact with the current owner. The owner rented out the entire house to us and the invoice clearly states entire house, 8 suites. They refused to let us use the 8th suite and then refused to refund our money for that portion, as well as the cleaning fee associated with the 8th suite. There was no breakfast and we were not able to use the kitchen/dining area without a $50 per day fee. I did complain about that prior to our arrival as that seems very unusual and she finally relented to unlock those spaces for us to use. There was a lot of back and forth with the owner and a lot of excuses made by her which didn't seem very professional. The place was not very clean and there were pieces of wall and wall paper falling down in places. There was garbage throughout the yard and the place just had a neglected feel to it. Our sheets smelled musty and dirty but the air in most of the rooms was so strongly scented it was hard to breathe (think chemical/air spray). Suite #6 was also a bit of a debate. Shortly before our arrival the owner told us we couldn't use that room as well. I argued that we needed it and rented it so we wanted to use it. She relented on that as well but said the bathroom wasn't working. Many sinks in the kitchenettes were not functional and the entire building needed work. The last and really upsetting piece of this nightmare of a rental was this: When we made the reservation months ago we explained that we had dogs and we were told that they are more than welcome-we would have chosen to stay somewhere else if they weren't allowed. We have rented so many vacation houses through vrbo, privately, and through airbnb and stayed in many bed and breakfasts all over the country and when we've been told dogs are welcome, then that means dogs are welcome. At this point their rental was not up on airbnb and the owner told us we had to rent directly through them. There were NO rules about the dogs. We were paying a fee for all 4 of them between all of the members of our family. When we made contact with the owner- finally -just days before arrival we were told that the dogs had to stay in Suite 1. All 4 in the smallest suite? The dogs belonged to different people and we couldn't have them stay all in that room. I explained that the dogs couldn't stay in that room because 2 of them would stay with us and 2 of them with my brother and his wife in their room. The owner agreed that she did change the policies after we made the reservation and then agreed to let the dogs stay in other rooms without charging more. 2 dogs ended up not coming as my brother was hospitalized so he didn't come as well. I requested a refund of the 8th suite, the cleaning fee for that room and the fee for the 2 dogs that didn't come. It ended up only being a little more than $250, not a lot at all considering we paid almost $1,800. The owner refused. I am more than happy to share the contract with anyone thinking about staying here, it is the strangest contract we've ever seen at either a b&b or a vacation house rental. Please don't take what they advertise on airbnb as truth-unless they change it considerably after I post this review. They will not rent out the entire house (at least at this time) even though their website says so, they do not serve breakfast or allow use of the kitchen without a fee, and their lack of communication or property manager is bizarre. They've yet to change the sign on the house and their updates so far have been stickers on the walls. The pictures they have listed are quite deceiving. I will also happily share pictures or videos of the place. My hope is that they turn this business around soon because our stay was pretty awful.

This place is some kind of scam. The exact same bed and breakfast is in South Africa…read more They did not have my reservation which I made ten days prior to my visit. The house was run down and no one was there. A phone number on a small white board said to call. The woman I spoke to said she had no reservation for me but could make a new one. I told her which room I had and she said it was still available and offered it to me. Given the run down state of the house, broken steps, worn out furniture shoved to the side of the porch I asked to see the room first. Then she explained that no one was there to show me a room. At this point I told her I would stay else where and wanted to confirm that my credit card had not been charged. She promised it had not. I just got off of the phone with my credit card company where I am disputing the charge which was made they day I booked the place. This is a scam.

The rooms and bathrooms are large, VERY clean, and there is a fridge/microwave/coffee bar upstairs which guests can use at any time. The hostess, Judy, is a culinary marvel. Not only did Judy make AMAZING breakfasts every morning, but she remembered what I liked and disliked and made new dishes each morning based on my personal preferences. Besides the incredible food (which is reason enough to stay here, believe me - there were frequently homemade sweets available in the dining area perfect for an after-dinner snack), Judy is the most accommodating hostess you will ever encounter. She let me leave my bike at her house when I would travel home on the weekends, she would make to-go breakfast bundles when I had to go in for work early, AND she would even get up early to heat up the breakfast before I left (which would sometimes be as early as 3am). An added bonus is her adorable cat, Bob. Needless to say, The Lindsay House is more than a quaint stop on one's journey. It's a destination in and of itself.

Donna and Mike renovated the entire house and put their personal touches in the most thoughtful ways. The place is meticulously cleaned, decorated, and organized. We were greeted with home made cookies and offered wide range of delicious drinks by Donna, followed by a tour of the house when Donna and Mike shared with us the history of the house, it immediately impressed my husband and I how much they love to host their guests and how much they love the place. They have VERY high standards for themselves on the experience they want their guests to have. They have everything you could ever need on a trip ready for you where/when you need it, Mike even offered me a leg pillow! The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfy. The next morning, our breakfast was egg ham croissants, rhubarb shortcakes and grapefruits, all sorts of beverages options, and to top it off, each of us were given a piece of freshly baked pastry for our long drive back to Chicago. I use Yelp frequently but rarely wrote reviews. I feel compelled to write about Donna and Mike and their lovely B&B.
