An admissions team member came out and basically gave us the tour on a map while outlining our walk. Seriously. She spent a solid 30-45 minutes with us and gave us food for thought (comparing TCU and SMU). Campus folks were friendly too as we were wandering. Very impressed by libraries, museums, and construction on the business school.

I had missed turning into the parking lot across from the museum and went around the block. I'm so glad that I did. After my visit to the museum, I did a quick tour of the campus before heading out for lunch. I love the wide pathways as you move from one building to the next. The architecture is beautiful and stunning. I loved the status of horses and Blanton Student Services Building. I am always inspired when I set foot on any campus. I will always be a student at heart, but I need to put my money towards my food love for now instead of a PhD! (23)

Every single canvas here could have gone home with me and I'd have been thrilled. The collection is so fresh and contemporary, it actually made me want to start five projects at once. They don't have a ton of large-format canvases, but there are some. Personally, I just wrapped up a belt project that took me...wait for it...20 years. Yes, two decades. I like to think of it as slow stitching, not procrastination. After finally finishing, over the past 6 or so months, I searched and searched for my next project and am a little bummed I didn't find this shop sooner. Turns out they weren't on Yelp. I actually stumbled upon them on TikTok, and in true enabler fashion, I set them up on Yelp myself. I had already bought my next canvases online, so when I came in I only needed all the fun extras to get started. Alice, who helped me, was fantastic. She set me up with the perfect thread colors, a needle minder, needles, stretcher bars and pins, and even a stitch book. Basically, she made sure I had everything except the snacks to sustain me through my next marathon project. And get this, they have in store classes too (check the website)! I'm absolutely psyched to go, because I could use a few tips to shorten my average project timeline from 20 years to less than 10. This place is such a great find. Whether you're brand new and "needlepoint curious" or a long-hauler like me, stop here first. You'll walk out happy, inspired, and probably with way more goodies than you planned. This place was literally the highlight of my week!!!

It's over for me! I decided I'd stop in my first store today. I'd ordered the Gingher Stork Embroidery Scissors nearly two years ago when I first had the slightest inclination that I may want to dabble down this road. I'm now completely enthralled. This coming from a woman who is not impressed by anything, at all, ever. I'm ordering books, supplies, watching videos, listening to podcasts and gearing up to really take this on soon. I couldn't wait for a class to become available, I needed immediate satisfaction today and I knew that would come in the form of getting my hands on the goods. No time to wait on a delivery. I had two local shops in mind and did another google search and decided my first stop would be Saville. Who am I to rate a needlepoint shop?! I know nothing! But here we are, giving my unsolicited opinion is one of many strengths in life. I loved the warm, friendly, welcoming environment. I found my first project, and got set up with my canvas, threads, needle, stretcher boards and tacks. I'm eagerly awaiting a class to post because your girl has got to get this going. My bank account has no idea what's about to hit it. I've already called home to tell my mother she needs to quit her job and become a finisher so I don't have extended wait times on my projects. I'm comin' in hot! Even had the nerve to drop the word "stocking" to my bestie today. Only in my wildest dream will I be completing a stocking, this is the level of complete delulu I'm on. We came in expecting a supportive and understanding environment, and instead left feeling confused, judged, and honestly a bit shocked. After just a trial day, I was told my child was not invited back -- with very little clear explanation. For a school that specializes in children who may need time to adjust, this felt extremely premature and contradictory to what they advertise. Children with communication challenges don't always show their best on day one -- that's exactly why families seek out schools like this. What was most concerning was the lack of professionalism and communication. When my child was struggling to express something on the playground, I experienced a moment from a staff member that felt dismissive -- including an eye roll -- rather than supportive or patient. As a parent, that is incredibly unsettling, especially in a school that is supposed to be equipped to handle communication challenges with care and understanding. Instead of guidance or collaboration, I was left with more questions than answers. If this school is truly designed to support children with different learning needs, there should be more patience, clearer communication, and a willingness to work with families -- especially on a first visit. Unfortunately, our experience did not reflect the inclusive and supportive environment that is promoted. I would not recommend based on our experience.

I used to work for The Community School of the Park Cities, and I witnessed three Lead Teachers…read moremistreating the babies & toddlers every day. They leaned all their weight against the babies when washing their faces in the sink (which can injure their organs), lifted them by one arm (which can dislocate their shoulder), grabbed them aggressively, shoved food in their mouths aggressively, made them stay in their cribs for several hours, yelled at them for wanting to get up or for crying, swaddled them when that's against the law in daycare, and spent a lot of time texting & talking on their phones instead of watching the babies. The Lead Teacher in the Toddler Room was very impatient & squeezed their shoulders when they didn't obey, instead of using redirection. I explained these things to the director, but she said, "It's going to be a lot of work to replace those teachers." I later asked her what she was going to do about the incidents & she said her lawyer told her not to talk to me about it, so I reported the incidents to Child Care Licensing. They visited the school, but weren't able to do anything because I didn't have pictures or videos. I asked the director to install cameras, but she said no. Something must be done to bring awareness to the parents. Those lead teachers are still there & the director doesn't want to make the effort to replace them.

My earliest friends and I traded Muscle Men, Garbage Pail Kids, MASK, GI Joe, and Transformers. We dug up bones in the yard. We pushed old tires around and pretended they were cars, playing Knight Rider. This building has a lot of sentimental value to me, and I would never forget it. The people back then, in that place and time, were real good, too. When I went there, this was both a grade-school AND a daycare. My Mom went to SMU, so this is where I went to kindergarten, but I eventually transferred to a suburban school in the far north Dallas neighborhood when my father remarried. I can't even begin to tell you how many hours I spent in this building, the kinds of friends I made there. Things were so simple then. I have warm, bright memories of those times.

I've also visited multiple Aveda Institutes over the years in different cities--New York, Mason (Ohio), and East Lansing (Michigan)--and the consistency is exactly why I keep coming back. You truly can't beat the price for the quality of service you receive. The students are professional, attentive, and clearly well-trained, and the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable. They've been in the industry for years and are always present, offering guidance, stepping in when needed, and making adjustments to ensure the client is happy with the final result. I've always felt listened to and well taken care of. One thing to keep in mind--this comes with any hair school--is timing. If you're booking color or more involved services, plan accordingly. Appointments can take a while, so I recommend clearing your schedule and expecting to be there at least half a day (sometimes longer). It's well worth it if you plan ahead. I would 1000% return and will continue coming back. Between the great experiences, amazing value, and the Aveda products, scents, and services they offer, this place is truly a gem.
