So you can pick up some cycling gloves and shoes if you so desire, or perhaps some lights and visibility strips? You'll also get a good service coming here, with the friendly staff briefing you on want you'll need if your looking to up your game in the biking world. Prices vary, but some bikes hit the cost of cars with one bike widening my eyes with its £1400 price tag... I assume it had a motor, or was filled with diamonds or something as that seems astronomical! I asked my biking friend though, who said that this isn't exactly unheard of. The chaps at Rayment are nice and bright enough that I reckon you'd get advice and help if you busted your bike and needed a hand getting it seen to, but then don't quote me on that... In summary? Originally hell bent on getting second hand bikes, we trawled the Open Market and visited Grandad's but alas, he could not meet our needs. Upon returning to Rayment's we informed the staff member of our meagre budget and expected to be turned away, but were pleasantly surprised to pick up two good quality mountain bikes for reasonable prices. Mine's bright pink, a Concept Mad Cow design, which cost me a lovely £100, and my boyfriend's was a Coyote, costing a little more at £200. We both got considerable discounts and got a bike pump thrown in for free. The service was brilliant, the staff very knowledgeable and happy to help, and once we had chosen we returned 20 minutes later after the bikes had been maintenance checked. The shop offers a free 6 week service after purchase, and as well as selling top notch bikes, there's a host of accessories and safety gadgets. Definitely worth a look if you're after friendly, reliable and good quality service.

Then, I found G-Whizz with whom I had a short but positive discussion. They don't do appointments so you have to take your bike down, to their place just off Hove seafront, discuss the problems, leave the bike and wait to be contacted to pick it up again. When I collected my bike, they fitted a new free-wheel mechanism and a new chain at a very reasonable price. I rode my bike home to Woodingdean, in light rain and the bike is as good as the time when I bought it new and first road it. Outstanding work G-Whizz, I highly recommend you to everyone and you will be my 'go to' bike repairers.

They also offer a wide range of various bike paraphernalia (lights, locks etc), plus if they don't have what you require in stock, they are happy to order it in for you. Moreover, I recently had to return a relatively new halogen front light which had stopped working. It was immediately replaced for a brand new one with no quibbles whatsoever. I cannot fault the excellent service I receive from Gordon at Q-Whizz and I thoroughly recommend them for all your biking needs.

They still offer a lot of 2nd hand bikes and bargains as well as a huge range of brand new ones. The staff are really helpful and always happy to have a chat about any good trails nearby. I feel like they offer good reasonable prices and provide the right advice. Although the shop is small, they have a surprising amount of stuff in stock. Blatchington Road can be a pretty depressing place at times, so it's nice to see some shiny new mechanical marvels to brighten up your day. With top brands such as a Schwinn, you might find yourself forking out some serious cash, but then again, these are some serious bikes. If I was looking for a decent road, or mountain bike, I'd definitely check out Hove Cycles. With a small place like this, you also tend to get the benefit of knowledgeable staff, which is why they are still in business competing with the likes of Halfords, Bike Hut and the other biking big boys. It's nice to see they're keeping afloat and that passionate people still succeed.
