From there we were introduced to the horses we were going to ride. We were invited into the horse stalls as the horses were groomed so the horses could get familiar with us. Once the horses were ready and saddled, we went outside where we were properly shown how to mount and dismount the horse. Off to the trail. The ride was a very relaxing hour horse ride through some trails, guided by Kristy, one of the owners. She gave us a history of the area as we rode, talked out the horses and all the while made sure everyone was good. The horses were very familiar with the area and very comfortable around people. All in all it was a very fun, relaxing hour. Upon returning, we were helped in dismounting. Once off, we had a brief chat with our tour guide, Kristy. She invited us to use the pool or saltwater hot tub they have on site. Perhaps on our next trip. My wife and I would absolutely recommend this experience to anyone looking to go horseback riding. We were extremely comfortable and the horses were exceptionally well looked after. All in all, a great trip.

We were lucky enough to spend the most beautiful evening of our trip to Nova Scotia here with Lance…read moreand Sara. Their ranch is simply magical. Their horses are magnificent, calm, and soothing. The ride was most enjoyable, a good length, through several beautiful settings: a small field, a forest, a pond, with the sunset over the Bay of Fundy as a backdrop. Lance and Sarah were exemplary hosts; the love they have for their animals is contagious; we loved it. P.S.: Thanks again, Lance, for my newfound passion for archery. ;)

I first met Lance a few years ago when I emailed him about getting a meat CSA for locally raised,…read moregrass fed beef. A few days later and he rolled up in his truck and I got my first ever taste of real grass fed beef. Now, Lance is delivering to 4 locations across HRM, and 90% of my meat comes from a really nice guy who lives less than an hour away. Ok, enough backstory, down to what you came for. I've eaten lamb in 4 provinces in Canada, England, and New Zealand, and Lance's lamb is far and away the best I have ever had (sorry Kiwis!). We're talking bone sucking, dripping off the chin kind of good. There's a reason why, when I asked my 2 year old daughter what her favourite meat is, she immediately said "lamb"! The pork chops, roasts, and bacon are all top notch. I never really liked pork because I found it dry and flavourless, but this is because mass-produced pigs are raised to be as lean as possible, don't have a varied diet, and never get any exercise. The pork chops you'll get from lance are rich and full of flavour; I truly believe that I hadn't really eaten pork until I had the free range variety. The sausages are also phenomenal, particularly the spinach feta - those bad boys are sucked down by my borderline vegetarian in-laws like you wouldn't believe. Is the meat slightly more expensive than what you get at Sobey's? Yes. Is it better for you? Hell yeah, Omega 3's, baby. Is it much higher quality? Ab-so-freakin-lutely. Give your money to a hard working guy who's busting his chops (har, I crack myself up) in the local economy to provide great meat.

One lives outside Sydney, NS, and the other lives in Moncton, NB. This year Elaine had the great idea of spending the weekend at the Broadleaf Guest Ranch, which is about 30 minutes south of Moncton. I flew to Halifax on Thursday my sister and and I drove to Moncton on Friday and I flew home yesterday. Broadleaf Guest Ranch is an 1100 acre, family owned and operated adventure business located in Albert County, New Brunswick, in the heart of the Bay of Fundy! We have been providing memorable experiences for over 50 years and 3 generations. The tranquil atmosphere enables our clients to submerse themselves in Broadleaf's soothing surroundings. Combine our country setting with our delicious home-cooked Ranch cuisine and toss in some great outdoor adventures, spa treatments, and country-style lodging, to give you an award winning recipe for an exceptional, stress free, all-inclusive holiday package. There are three cabins in a row on the hill ... we were in cabin #2 (Comanche). It was a self-contained cabin with a living room, kitchen, two bedrooms (with a double bed and single bunkbeds in each room) and a bathroom. Our our view was looking out at the marsh ... horses could be seen roaming around it. I woke up in the mornings hearing cows and roosters ... quite a difference from the sirens and streetcars I hear in Toronto. We had the ladies' pampering package ... five meals (supper on Friday, breakfast/lunch/supper on Saturday and brunch today) and spa services. We had supper at the restaurant on Friday evening ... it was a busy spot! Since our spa services started earlier, we had our breakfast delivered to our cabin Saturday morning. Three of us had a cold breakfast and my sister had the hot breakfast. Tina and Tiffany, the estheticians, arrived for our spa services just before 9am (they were with us for three hours). We each had a 20 minute back massage, a manicure and a pedicure. We were too relaxed to go for lunch so had it delivered ... I had a turkey sandwich, salad and hot apple crumble. Yum! We went horseback riding Saturday afternoon, which is right across the street the cabins ... $30 for an hour. We were too comfortable to go for supper Saturday night so had it delivered. I had the roast turkey dinner again as did my sister. My friends had nachos. Brunch yesterday was a buffet. There was lots to choose from ... tea biscuits, bacon, ham, sausages, quiche, scrambled eggs, home fries, mashed potatoes, stuffing, fiddleheads, potato salad, chow, mustard pickles, desserts and lots lots more! It was part of our package ... it's only $14 if you aren't in the package. It was a a popular spot! What a great place! I would definitely recommend it for a weekend getaway. It was only $275/person. We are talking about going back again next year! The only strange thing I found about the cabin is that there was no phone. Granted the office can be seen from the cottages but what if there was an emergency and you didn't have a cell phone? Or you wanted your meals delivered but didn't have a cell phone? A huge shout-out to Kathy Weir! She took such good care of us! She would pop up to the cabin to make sure we had everything we needed, delivered our meals, etc. She even washed our dishes which felt strange since we were sitting right there but she kept stressing that we were there to be pampered.
