The busiest of all rental car agencies at Linate-Milan airport -- by a long shot. The staff works hard, speaks English, and is very nice and competent. However, the systems are antiquated, super inefficient, and the entire process is NOT with the customer in mind. I don't fault the staff, but Europcar itself. The entire process took an hour to get to the counter, another 30 mins at the counter, and 15 mins to get the key from the attendant at the parking lot.
I'd recommend, if at all possible, not to rent from this location at Europcar until they get the entire customer experience streamlined. SixT had no line, Hertz 5 people, and Europcar, sigh, 18-20 people ahead of me in line.
The car received was actually nice, with 18000 km, it was a VW Golf Hatchback. $220 for 10 days....awesome so far!
Beware -- It's not just the time wasted:
=============================
1. At the counter, every piece of data from my passport, CDL, and rental agreement had to be entered into the car reservation system by the gentlemen helping me. It's like they didn't have any information beforehand. [15 mins]
2. To fully rent the car to me, the gent needed to get the actual license plate into the system. He called the attendant in the parking area, who didn't answer. After 10 mins, the gent had to leave the desk and go get the information himself. [15 mins]
3. After the rental fiasco, we had to strangely walk to P3 of the parking area to get the vehicle. To get the key, we had to wait for the 1 attendant at the booth to return from helping another customer. [15 mins]
4. A $500 worth of hold fees beyond the fee of the rental. I am hoping this is normal and on the up and up...I'll write an update if they try to stick it to me. read more
