We rented 2 cars from Eurocar in New Zeland. A GWM Havel and a Tiggo 4 cherry. Both Chinese cars and both the worst cars I've drive. In 50 years. I'll never buy a Chinese car! Both cars have steering assist which can't be turned off. Tiago calls it ELK or emergency lane keep. Go figure. These cars are trying to kill the driver. In New Zealand there are mostly 2 lane narrow roads. So when you ease to the edge of the road to avoid an oncoming big rig the car thinks "emergency" and ELK steers you into the big rig. Whoever bought these Chinese cars at Eurocar should be fired! I asked for a non Chinese car but Eurocar could not provide one. Eurocar must only have only Chinese cars. Needless to say IM NEVER RENTING FROM EUROCAR AGAIN. I could hear the car using lane lane assist and Xi Jinping saying... I'm watching you. Recurring theme with Europcar during our trip, so I'm even more confident that it's not just by chance that customer service at Europcar is painfully slow to nonexistent. We had to stand in line for over 2 hours (!!) to pick up an already reserved car. They know exactly how many customers they are going to expect on any given day at any given time, especially as customers are required to inform Europcar about which exact ferry they take and when they arrive. Car drop off at the Wellington terminal was equally chaotic. By the way, the extreme waiting times can't be explained by the peak season alone, as all other rental car companies (Avis, Budget, Pegasus and Hertz) have no or very small lines in the front of their kiosks. Europcar - Car Rental Near Me - Picton, MBH

Not sure if this location is as shady as the rest but I would assume it's a company-wide thing... I've never felt so cheated in all of my time in Asia... Here is my experience: I am very disappointed with the service from Europcar in Auckland and Wellington...Stay away from this company at all costs!... Upon receiving the car from the airport in Auckland, I had to run back and forth from the domestic and international terminals as there was no one staffed at either location. Once getting someone to show up after 1 hour of waiting with 3 other families, I was attended to. In this interaction, I had a $500+ hold on my account for security which the older gentleman behind me said that he had never heard of before in his life and that they were massively overcharging me. I was concerned as I am a student and just the car rental alone, without the $500 hold was far over my budget. I was obliged as I needed to make my way down to Wellington and there was no other means of affordable transportation.... Fast forward to returning the car back to the Wellington Airport location of Europcar, and I have a surprise fuel charge of over $130 New Zealand Dollars... even though I returned the car near full... that being as much or more than what I originally received the car with... As this is my first time renting a vehicle, I was not aware that many companies will scam you with fraudulent charges if you don't have photographic evidence. I have spoken back and forth with the company and they will not refund me the amount (mind you that the amount they charged me was a FULL tank of gas when I returned it around 4/5 full when I arrived at 2am in Wellington after driving straight for 7 hours), not even part of the amount without an image of how much gas was in the tank when I received it. Seems very strange as the amount received and the amount returned still doesn't justify an ENTIRE tank of gas. I would say stay away from this rental company unless you want to be ripped off. As a broke college student, I'm really unimpressed by how companies have retrenched from helping those less economically fortunate in order to make more money. First, you charge me much more than everyone else in the deposit, and then you charge me an extreme, unjustified amount in gas... Everyone I've spoken to says it seems very shady. read more

Europcar is an absolutely awful organization. When my ferry from Wellington to Picton New Zealand was late due to the weather conditions in the cook straight and arrived at 6:40 your office was closed (apparently at 6:30) and after spending 45 minutes on the phone with your representative Europcar refused to owner my reservation and left me stranded in Picton New Zealand without any means to continue my travel. Europcar lacks basic customer service business model and any type of compassion for its customers. Never again I will relay on Europcar services while traveling. read more
