This is a great music shop, of the kind in High Fidelity or similar. Great vinyl and CD selection, and they go all out for Record Store Day where a mini-festival takes place on friar street featuring the best of local music and artists from further afield (highlights this year were Stanley Odd and The Precious Penny Pluckers).
It's a family owned company who will order in anything your heart desires. It has the best scottish music selection I've seen in any music shop anywhere - this is a speciality of the shop. Fans of Treacherous Orchestra, Gordon Duncan, the Peatbog Faeries and modern Scots Song will find plenty here. There are also great rock, blues and jazz selections, and a large variety of DVDs - mainly of the 'cult' and special interest variety (sci fi shows, etc.). As a trad musician it's nice to go and make requests for stuff like ANgus Lyon or Ewan Robertson and have the staff know what I'm talking about. I have bought a tonne of trad CDs here, enough to fill my car!
I also busk outside this shop sometimes, Euan occasionally makes me cups of tea and the nice folk in the next-door kilt shop put their awning over me if it's sunny so I don't get burnt! read more
