My friend told me about this plus size shop with ethically sourced clothing, which can be hard to find online and in most stores. We decided to check it out and I was impressed by the selection of clothing up to probably a 5 or 6xl. Not all of it was my style, so I did not purchase anything on this trip, but the store had good vibes and cute decor and jewelry to look at as well. I think this is a great option for plus size girls in the STL community who are looking for clothing, shoes, and accessories.

    Lots of options!

Today I had a very disappointing experience @ The Woke Brand inside the Saint Louis Galleria…read more I walked into the store to look at patches because my daughter was recently hired to create a custom 314 Day performance outfit for a rapper. I was on FaceTime with the client showing them the patches available in the store. While I was browsing, the fat head lady behind the counter told me to take pictures of the patches I was interested in and bring them to the counter for pricing. When I came up to ask about the price of one of the patches (a rice box patch), she asked if I had taken a picture. I told her I thought I had but realized it didn't take while I was on FaceTime. I then asked, " you have more than 1 patch thats a box of rice?" She stated "possibly!" She then asked what was wrong with me. I told her I was irritated and simply being honest that I'm human and having a moment. Instead of continuing the conversation or helping me, she told me my energy was bothering her and refused to serve me. She stated that again when I advised her she still diet answer my two simple questions. I left the store feeling disrespected and shocked that I was denied service for simply expressing that I was irritated. I was in the store trying to support a Black-owned business and help an artist prepare for a 314 Day performance. My u you would think with a name like Woke Brand one would know the power in being able to read energies if your chakras are alined. I came in that store happy and excited and with a pure heart so the only energy She should have read was the one that tells her to mind her business she pulled up a stool and sat diwn to ask me that. Like huh. I gave her an answer twi e calmy with no disrespect intended because she actually had nothing to do with why I was over stimulated. Shit my dog couldve just died‍. I regularly support and promote Black brands, so this experience was very disappointing. Businesses should treat customers with respect and professionalism even if someone seems to be having an off moment. I really couldn't adjust fast enough for her and actually did the best I could do at the moment. I will be filing complaints with the proper consumer and business agencies because no customer should be refused service for something like this. I'm sharing this so people know what kind of treatment I experienced today. You never know who you are talking to and who people know. It saddens me to have to go this route especially with a brand I myself was promoting free but you don't get to cause me pain and suffering and not have any consequences.

The Woke Brand - These were patches we had an interest in but the attitude was too much to deal with!

I love Refresh (5/5 specifically for their dresses). It's a beautiful secondhand clothing shop in…read moreBrentwood with a great cause!! (Proceeds go to St. Louis's foster care coalition--their HQ is also in this same building). They have a selection of normal clothes -- women's and men's -- on the bottom floor, along with shoes and accessories (earrings and jewelry). But what really stands out is their cute formal dress section on the second level! Perfect for prom, wedding guest, bridesmaid etc. They have floor length dresses for $35 and shorter dresses for $25. They even have a few floor length wedding gowns for brides for $100!! (Plus a section for mother of the bride dresses). I've gotten 2 formal dresses here so far with lots of compliments (wore one on a beachy vacation and another as a destination wedding guest)!! I visited again this week as I thought I'd look for a wedding dress here since they have super affordable options. I didn't end up finding a dress in my size since they only have a few but it was still really impressive they had some in stock at all! And at this price point. There were some beautiful dresses in smaller sizes as well with big princess-like ballgown-style trains. They also accept donations. You can either get a tax receipt or a $5 off coupon! The staff there have also been very friendly every time I've gone!! They have the store decorated currently for their prom season--girls who are in foster care who are accepted into their program get to shop for a prom dress for free! So cool!

**May 2025: Monday Afternoon Visit**…read more My friend and I wanted to check out the thrift scene in St. Louis, but unfortunately a lot of the charity shops were closed on Memorial Day. I called ahead to see if Refresh had different hours and fortunately, they were open! There's a parking lot behind the building and when I stepped in I was really impressed by how nicely arranged everything was. It definitely gave off boutique vibes and there's a dressing room on the top floor along with many aisles of formal/prom/wedding dresses. The price point for the casual day-to-day items were a little higher than that of a Salvation Army/Goodwill, but everything was steamed and in really good condition, plus all the proceeds are given to St. Louis's Foster Care Coalition (and no tax). The men's section was pretty small, but the women's was really stacked. When I went to the 3rd floor to check out the formal wear it was like a kid in a candy shop. They arranged the formal dresses by size and there were some really incredible finds there. Unlike downstair where everything is priced individually I believe all short dresses were $25 and the long ones were $35, and my guess is that these dresses are left over from their Cinderella project (gifting girls a fairytale prom experience without worrying about money). I think I spent almost 2 hours in the shop and I still didn't get to try everything one, but I was happy with my purchases. One thing to note in the future - I will wear proper spanx/strapless bra to improve my formal dress shopping experience. Otherwise, this charity shop is a fantastic place to support a great mission and treat yourself! It's a win-win!
