Every time I go to Portugal, this ice cream shop is a must. It's become part of my routine because…read moreit just never disappoints. The ice cream is always so good especially with the waffle being h, but honestly, it's the whole experience that makes it special. The views are what really take it to another level. Sitting by the beach with the water right there, enjoying something sweet; It's just one of those moments that feels unreal. The scenery is so peaceful and beautiful, it makes you want to stay there forever. And on top of that, the prices are amazing. You get such high-quality ice cream without feeling like you're overspending, which makes it even better going back again and again. It's one of those places that just feels like a tradition now!! great ice cream, stunning views, and a vibe you can't get anywhere else.
Gelatomania in Nazaré, Portugal is decidedly geared towards tourists with its very anglicized name…read more No matter though, the gelato is excellent. We chose one called Pirata, meaning pirate, and is a cherry flavor. It is fruity delicious, creamy, and fresh. Service was average. I don't blame the guy though. The very distracted customers ahead of me were particularly yelling their orders just because English isn't their first language, either. Some customers are unintentionally rude. The store is sparkling clean and looks new. The cost was very good. I think it was €2.50 for a cone.
Outside of Gelatomania at 10pm on a Sunday evening.

The apple strudel was warm and the pastry was flaky. I don't know if it was apple with their secret filling, but it was delicious. Likewise with the Nutella strudel. The pastry was flaky with a warm Nutella filling. Their version of pastel da nata was good. The egg custard was not as good as the original one we had in Belém. The pastry was nice and flaky. Since this is a tourist area, they were the only one open early in the morning. They also have nice strong coffee!

It was 1.50 euro for a pastel de nata and it paired beautifully with a meia de leite (flat white). I thought that was for sure it until I discovered them in Porto as well. These guys primarily sell one thing, and it's the same everywhere. Clearly they like their formula. Obviously, I had the pasteis de nata. Curiously, at this location specifically, they refuse to sell a single one and instead sell in groups of two. This one was not my favorite. The pastry shell does have a good crispness and flakiness to it, but the problem is the inside is just way too sweet. The custard is just sickly sweet - such that it simply doesn't work with the egg flavor. It seems to be a problem unique to this chain, as I haven't noticed this sweetness anywhere else. Overall, I would look elsewhere for pastel de nata. 5/10

First off, it was almost impossible to decide WHAT pastries to try because the all looked amazing. Wifey ordered a pastry called Delicia do Convento and I had an Encharcada which is another egg custard recipe. Both were, as expected, amazing. The Portuguese really know how to do pastries. While we saw an amazing and really old monastery in Alcobaça, the half-hour we spent chatting, drinking espresso and tasting pastries was pretty awesome. When we arrived, they were just doing counter service and closing for the afternoon, but we were able to get a panini and we found local craft beer (which was pretty neat) and they let us eat on their patio. I had the Iberian sandwich which has Iberian prosciutto, flamengo cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickled red onion. It was the perfect sandwich to cure my hangry. When we went for lunch the day before we did not know that this café was also the breakfast part of our bed and breakfast. We stayed at a bed-and-breakfast the next street over and both mornings a continental breakfast at this café was included. This is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had as part of the bed-and-breakfast. We were each served a portion of fresh fruit (which changed by the day), a boiled egg, a couple slices of ham and cheese, a pastel de nata, a basket of crossiants and rolls to share, and whatever you would like to drink. I had fresh squeezed orange juice, and a latte both days. Thankfully, like most places in Portugal they offer dairy alternatives. I honestly still dream about this breakfast. The wait staff on all of our trips were so friendly and helpful. It is really a beautiful set up and they have many things that you can purchase as well. I personally purchased a bowl shaped like a strawberry that I now have in my kitchen. This is definitely a stop. You need to make while in Sintra!
