In such a short time they had already swapped in brand new units into every cabin. Their customer service here has been the best we've experienced at any KOA. It is clean, modern and updated, they have wonderful amenities (the pool especially!), and the list goes on! Personally we would like to thank Jeff, and Dana and all of the staff here for going above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our stay! We would 10/10 recommend to anyone considering coming here!

Lewis Park is a nice city park located in Wheatland, Wyoming. So...you would think for a city park…read morethey'd offer a playground, picnic canopies, soccer fields...etc. Well yes, Lewis Park offers all that...AND MORE! And the reason I'm saying MORE than your average typical park is because they allowed camping on the grounds. Camping? Really? Wow...cool for me. That's exactly what I was looking for! Here I was, in this random town of Wheatland...just off the main road of Interstate 25 running through the heart of Wyoming. This Lewis Park was an absolutely suitable place for me to pull over along my travels and rest up for the night. I discovered Lewis Park through the app on my phone called Campendium. I can't recommend Campendium enough for locating random campground and RV Parks on the fly. Along my cross country road trip...this Lewis Park was the only city park where they actually offered camping. Ya know...most of the places I visited were specific campgrounds and or RV/Trailer Parks...yet this place was a park for anyone and everyone to use. They permitted tent camping right on the outskirts of the main soccer field! Here were some great aspects to Lewis Park... When I read the entrance sign...it said it was free to camp! Hmmm...even better. I think they could have easily charged $10 for the night and no one would have taken an issue with that...yet it was free! You don't have to sign up or reserve a site...just first come, first served. There were specific rules mentioning that you could only camp for 3 nights within a 30 day period. The camping area was situated in a little designated area good for about 10 sites. When I came here back over the summertime...it was myself and two other families camping. So...it wasn't busy at all and overall...it was extremely quiet which was great for me to enjoy the fresh outdoor setting. Unfortunately they didn't feature showers or restrooms, but for free camping in a city park...I wasn't even expecting those types of amenities, lol. At least there was a vault toilet located next to the mini golf section. Yeah, nice...they offered mini golf here, though with this 2020 pandemic going on...I wasn't exactly sure if the course area was closed. Well, I didn't see anyone playing. My only issue to get to this vault toilet and the mini golf area from the camping grounds was having to walk around the entire soccer field. So, it was a bit of trek...but no big deal ultimately. I would also mention that this section for camping didn't have the most comfortable ground for making up my tent. I was sort of forced to set up on hard, dirt soil while meanwhile the camping area faced the soccer field where there was fresh fluffy grass much more suitable for pitching a tent. Yeah, it would have been a perfect night's rest if I could have moved my tent onto the soccer field, lol. Oh well...I was satisfied with just being here and having some time to rest and relax before heading to Casper, WY. What I very much appreciated were the picnics tables set underneath canopies. I noticed a family having an afternoon birthday party. This Lewis Park was perfect for something like that. Since there were multiple tables and canopy areas set up around the park...I was able to locate a few electrical outlets underneath these canopies good recharging my phone and portable generator. And...there was good cell phone reception here for browsing the Internet and checking my social media posts, lol. Btw, right beside this park was any necessities you may need from the town of Wheatland including food, gas and supplies. Overall, this Lewis Park was a great stopping point to pull over while driving. Taking in a pleasant summer night's evening here was worthwhile. Granted the town of Wheatland is very small...but I'm really surprised for a city park like this with so many great attributes for local residents to hang out here during the day...that no one has yet to write a review about this place. Regardless, I'm happy to give it some recognition. And for any adventurers or road trippers out there needing a practical spot to set up a tent and camp for free for the night, I recommend this Lewis Park.

There's a nice green grassy area nice place to walk your dogs too very pleasant place. Suggest if you haven't stayed there before in your passing through. That's better than staying in Casper. I think wonderful restaurant ask Kathy about it. It's down the street but I can't remember the name steakhouse with seafood and chops. Very unusual menu.

It is probably at least a 5-10 minute drive off of the highway, all the way down Ayres Natural Bridge Rd. There is NO cell connection by the time that you get to the park area/camping site. Your phone's GPS gets you where you need to be, and then follow the paved road down. There are private properties around, so be aware. You honestly can't comprehend the true beauty until you are actually there. Pictures do not do this park justice.

We arrived around 4:45 pm and very few at the campground, though as nightfall came, there were a few others that stopped and were mostly out early in the morning. Very friendly and helpful check in. We had reservations but had our pick of spaces. I wish I had taken a photo of the showers - they were plenty big, had a chair and were very clean. This was wonderful for my 83 year old mother that wanted to refresh after a few days on the road. I was on the fence about a full 5 stars only because of the ants... crazy ants everywhere but I had non-toxic spray for the tent and sprayed around the picnic table. It didn't stop them all, but helped. We still have a few ants that managed to find a ride on our tent to our next stop. We all got a few mosquito bites as well -- something we forget about not having many on the West Coast. If you stay here, it is peaceful and the "Prairie View" name suits it well. Had we unhooked our RV we would have ventured into the quaint little town for some food. It is worth a look if you stay. Otherwise, it's no frills, but clean and friendly and will be a nice stop over on your travels.

The main cabin had a coffee pot, kitchenette, an a/c unit, a refrigerator, tv, shower and toilet, table, desk and a couple of chairs. There was also a shower house available for the other couple if they didn't want to use our bathroom. The bedding was cute, but the bed was a little weak for my giant of a husband. The springs moaned every time he moved. The host was able to check us in early. I love the old vibe. You can tell that they are working hard on improvements. I would stay here again.

Fort Caspar Campground for me was a pleasant stay. It's pretty much a giant RV Park with tons and…read moretons of trailers. I had read that this place is full of a lot of locals living here on a part time/full time basis. That seemed to bother people according to other reviews...like...that it makes Fort Caspar a shady/trashy spot to stay at. But I would generally disagree with all those opinions. I was simply looking for a reasonable/affordable campground to pitch my tent and sleep for the evening. And I found this Fort Caspar to be just fine. I had no problems and the "locals" never once confronted me or gave me a hard time about anything. Once I arrived here I set up camp in a quiet section of the park for primitive campsites and was set to go for the rest of my time. Fort Caspar is located just outside Casper, Wyoming. So while I spent the day in the heart of Casper getting my car inspected and refilling groceries and supplies for my cross country road trip, Fort Caspar was a worthwhile campsite for me to choose to end my day and "recharge my battery" for continuing on my journey. I discovered Fort Caspar through the camping app on my phone called Campendium. Although they didn't feature an option for booking a campsite online, all I had to do was make a phone call to them to reserve my site. Traveling spontaneously...I called Fort Casper at the last minute of the day and they mentioned they'd leave me a packet and guide for my stay on the grounds. The hosts were leaving around 5pm and they simply mentioned to pay for my site in an envelope and deposit it off in the front box near the Main Office. For my primitive campsite it was $25. I paid cash though I can't specifically remember if they accepted checks or credit cards. Upon arriving here, I'd basically describe Fort Caspar as your good old fashioned Trailer/RV and Campground Park. I drove in on a dirt road, stopped at the main office and leisurely went straight to my campsite to set up my tent. What I always appreciate about RV/Trailer Parks is they usually offer restrooms and showers for guests. Well...no different here. I found them to be clean, well maintained and efficient. For late afternoon, no one was using them so I mostly had privacy while washing up. I'd say the showers and bathrooms were about a 5 minute walk from the campsites. Also, they even offered a pretty clean little mobile bathroom much closer to the campsites....this way you sort of don't have to walk back and forth every time you need to use the toilet. At my campsite it had a barbecue pit for grilling, though I had already eaten dinner prior to coming here. But...you could grill on the grounds using charcoal. The sites also had a very quiet element to them. There were 10 campsites on the grounds and I felt like they were all situated far away from each other. I had a good night's rest and the following morning I felt refreshed. Just some other notes and points of interest according to Fort Caspar's website... - 86 RV sites including 14 pull through up to 44 feet. - 30 and 50 amp services. - 2 private fishing ponds. - Playground. - 24 hour laundry mat. - 3 grassy areas for picnics. - Walking trails, wildlife and a store for any little extras you may need at the last moment. Overall, I was happily satisfied with my stay at Fort Caspar Campground. I mean...for $25...I got a quiet campground with showers and restrooms to clean myself up. And although according to other folks they were disturbed by suspicious activity going on from the locals...I found none of this to be true. If I ever return to the area...I'd gladly come back to Fort Caspar and recommend it to those adventurers/tourists who may be traveling on a whim and looking for an affordable campground/trailer park located just outside downtown Casper, Wyoming.
