As regular readers of my reviews will know, I traveled to Madrid in July 2014 and I am reviewing a few places I have never got round to reviewing, and now it is time for the heart of Madrid to be finally reviewed (well the metro station that serves it)
Vodafone Sol has been known since June 2013 as "Vodafone" Sol due to sponsorship reasons, Although this helps to raise money, I do feel it shows Sol being commercialised, which makes it a little less welcoming, they might as well call London, Caffe Nero City (As let's be honest, they isn't many London streets without one!)
Now back to Madrid, and more importantly Vodafone Sol. It is quite a nice metro station and is on about a quarter of lines (1, 2 and 3). As it is one of the busiest and most popular stations however, I am surprised it is not on more lines, as they is 13 and The Metro of Madrid is the 7th longest metro system in the world, if you include the 2015 expansion
Vodafone Sol is located in Sol Square and is quite unusual and cool going into it, as they is a lift near enough in the middle of nowhere which connects you to the station, and as far as I'm aware most (if not all) lines do have lifts, which makes it easier for prams, the elderly and wheelchairs.
The location of Vodafone Sol, as I said is very good and is very central to the central part of Madrid.
I do recall seeing a few shops here and along with numerous ways to get in (Escalators, lifts), wheelchair access and mobile access, it is probably one of my favourite stations for underground transportation considering these factors, not just in Madrid, but across the underground transport systems I have visited: London, Munich, Madrid, so coming up with a star rating is kind of tricky, I honestly don't feel it is worth 4 stars, and feel it is instead worth a very high three star rating.
The main reasons for this station not getting any more than 4 stars is :
- It can often get very busy, so is not always the nicest place to be in the warm underground of Madrid
- It should be on a greater percentage of lines due to it being for the "Center" of Madrid and being one of the busiest and most popular stations
- Staff levels could be increased especially considering it being one of the main stations read more
