Always runs out of gas. Wtf how do you run a business when all of your supply is out all of the time.

In the store, the focus is on cold drinks, auto accessories and thing like hats & gloves - not much snacks or grocery items compared to bigger Shell or Esso. However they do always have Sesame Snaps in stock - sometimes this is the only place within 5 km of my building where I can find Sesame Snaps at night! They also carry cheap, effective old school auto glass products Rain Vision & NeverFog which a lot of big gas stations don't sell anymore. Washroom is very basic but never nasty and it's always open. Note that at last check, Ultramar is not listed as a Top Tier gas seller. I'm not sure if this is due to not meeting the voluntary Top Tier standard for purity & detergency - though more likely not wanting to pay the costs of participating. Either way, just to be on the safe side I wouldn't suggest using Ultramar on a frequent basis if you have BMW, Audi or VW or any recent car with Direct Inection and/or Turbo technology (( though ironically you WOULD come here to get top-off oil for those cars because they sell synthetic Total in a wide range of grades you wouldn't find at most gas stations...)) Also note this station is built on somewhat of a raised mound, the driveways have a steep angle which can make for rough entry/exit for cars with regular or lower round clearance. If you're not driving a SUV or truck, you should take the entrances slowly & diagonally.

Cabbagetown

I had placed a takeout order at Gushi and had some time to kill. I also needed to fill my car up…read morewith gas and use a gifted coupon for $1 off a gas fillup. I did a quick search and found this Esso station just north of Gushi. For years, I have been a Petro-Canada customer. Esso stations were particularly foreign to me when I dropped by this one in late July. This gas station is on the southeast corner of Parliament and Amelia Streets. I pulled into this station and found a pump. It was fairly busy at around 6 pm. When it comes to paying for gas, I typically pay at the pump and drive off. Since I had a coupon, I had to pay inside. I had no problem filling my gas tank. The area was clean and everything at the pump worked properly. I often have a difficult time writing a review for an Esso station with a Circle K convenience store. I don't see a clear delineation between the two businesses. I pay for gas at Circle K. There's always a huge chunk of overlap and I feel that both reviews are fairly similar. Maybe I'm used to Petro-Canada where both the gas station and the convenience store are typically mashed together as one listing on Yelp. I learned last weekend in Orillia that a Petro-Canada gas station can have a Circle K. So much for keeping things simple for me. I headed inside the Circle K. This place was busy. I ended up using two other coupons with my gas one. I then headed to line up. There were a few folks in front of me. The man at the counter was nice. I said that I had gas at the pump. I then redeemed my first gas coupon. There was no barcode. This man looked at my phone and tried to tap the coupon a number of times. I told him that there was no barcode and he probably needed to manually take the $1 off. We live in a world where technology helps us, but as humans, we seem to not know what to do when technology can't offer any help. I felt it with this man. He needed to contact his manager on the phone to figure out how to manually take off $1 from my gas total. Eventually, he was able to give me this discount and honour my coupon. He was happy and I was relieved! I had two other coupons that did not scan well. What worked the best was my making the barcodes larger for scanning. I tapped my PC Optimum card. I then paid with a credit card. All went well. The man seemed relieved once all coupons scanned and I had paid for everything. I felt it, too! I thanked him and left. I felt bad for holding up the line. There were five folks behind me. Yikes! This experience was my second time redeeming coupons. It was painful, but I haven't experienced any issues redeeming digital counts at any Circle K since dropping by this place. I don't normally fill up at a gas station in Cabbagetown. Should I be back in the area and need to revisit this Esso station, I'd return without any hesitation. (366)
