Onsite is a BMO ATM, ice, hot & cold beverages, firewood, Lotto, snacks, vacuum service, propane tank trade program, some vehicles maintenance fluids like windshield washer, engine oil, etc. and a clean washroom. The lone male staff member wasn't friendly behind the counter. Not a word uttered when I made my lotto purchase request and after I completed the payment. I felt like he hated his job but I'm not a trained psychologist nor a psychiatrist. It was time to get out of Dodge, or at least Markham.

The current iteration of the Shell Select convenience store sells Freshii products (which was definitely not available when I first started coming here). It's nice to know that one can purchase some healthier food options aside from the typical chips, candy, chocolates, and soft drinks that are normally found at gas stations. This Shell station is the closest one to my home. I have been visiting it for years, especially when I was in Air Miles collection mode. I don't visit Shell stations all that often these days, as I get gas-fuelling discounts at Petro-Canada. My car desperately needed to be vacuumed. I didn't want to do it during a pandemic, but I did it safely after getting my game plan in place, thanks to gloves and hand sanitizer. This gas station has two vacuums that are closest to Passmore Avenue. I love that it's a wide-open space. I can put my mats down safely on the side and vacuum to my heart's content. What has changed is how you can pay to use the vacuum. I always bring loonies and twoonies. It allegedly allows you to pay using tap methods, such as debit, credit, Google Pay, and more. Well, I tried my debit and credit cards, and Google Pay on my phone. Guess what? None of them worked. When in doubt, go with coins. I inserted $2.50 into the machine and vacuumed for five minutes. Suction was great. The front foot areas are the worst in my car, but they looked like new when I was done. I was happy. There are two vacuums at this gas station, with an air machine between them. A man used it while I was vacuuming. We were safely physically distanced. We were both working on the passenger sides of our vehicles. When I was done and got into my car, he was on the driver side of his car. I have filled up my various cars over the years with gas at this Shell station. I feel like I can do a retrospective on the vehicles that I have owned, but I'll spare you those details. Even with a large tea from ZeeV's and a grande iced peach green tea from Starbucks in my car, I had consumed both. I was still thirsty driving home from Casino Rama. I needed a drink. I pulled off highway 404 and found this Circle K open just before midnight. It's located on the northeast corner of Woodbine and 16th avenues. I pulled in. Here's my beef. Perhaps it was too dark, but I circled (no pun intended, but it's cool nonetheless) around the gas pumps at this Esso station and did not see any designated parking spots if you were just going into the convenience store. How annoying! I ended up doing something that I dislike doing. I parked in front of a gas pump. I felt that my car would be safe there, even though I didn't need any gas. I then walked into the convenient store. I had a coupon for a free Pepsi Zero. This store did not carry it. Ugh! Instead, I saw Dreamworld Coke. I had heard about it, but had never tried it. I got one. I also had a coupon for a free Caramilk bar, so I ultimately grabbed one when I got to the counter. A nice male customer in front of me was looking at candy. He asked if I wanted to go ahead of him. I let him know that I was also looking at the Caramilk bar varieties just behind him. It all worked out. I needed the time to figure out what my Caramilk flavour options were and I wasn't in any rush. I got to the countersand got a helpful man. He said that he would be rebooting his payment system at noon. I looked at my watch and it was two minutes before that. I felt like my carriage and glass slippers would disappear soon, but I didn't have any of them. I had him scan my Caramilk barcode on my phone. Done! He said that I could get another Coke product and do two of them for $4.50. I let him know that I'd get another Dreamworld one. He asked if I had any other coupons. I mentioned that I had a car wash one, as this station had a rather bright car wash at this hour. He said that his system couldn't spit a car wash ticket out at this hour. That was okay. I'd redeem it another time. He was kind telling me how the car wash worked. It was as if he knew that I am a newbie to Circle K car washes. I appreciated it. I had my PC Optimum card scanned. I then tapped my credit card to pay for my drinks. All was well. I let him know that I'd grab another bottle of Dreamworld Coke. He nodded. I grabbed and thanked him. He wished me a good evening. I reciprocated and walked towards my car. My salted caramel Caramilk bar was delicious. It tasted better being free, I'm sure. The Dreamworld Coke quenched my thirst. It has subtle fruit and citrus notes with Coke. I loved that it had no sugar in it. I'm glad that I have another bottle to enjoy. I pulled up to an available pump and looked at the screen. I could only pay at the pump. I couldn't redeem my coupon. I left the gas station, not buying a thing. It was weird, empowering, and fun. I took a chance and headed over to this gas station. It's small. I have been to the Circle K in the past to get peanuts. You can maybe pack ten people in this tiny store like sardines if you had to. This gas station also has a car wash. I pulled up to an available gas pump. It was my lucky day. I could either pay at the pump or go inside to pay. I did the latter and started fuelling. I did it handsfree while I cleaned my windshields with the squeegee a few feet away. This gas station is clean and nicely maintained. I headed inside. I was one of two customers. The man behind the counter was cheerful. I redeemed my coupon. I scanned it, but he needed to double-check the coupon and whether I had hit at least 30 L of gas. Everything checked out. I got my discount. Yay! I had my PC Optimum barcode on my phone scanned. I then paid with a credit card. Done! He wished me a great day. I reciprocated and walked out with my receipt.
