I recently purchased a 2010 Chevrolet Express 1500LT AWD full-size van from Essig Motors in Aledo, IL. It was one of the most horrible customer experiences I've ever had with a dealership. They sold me a vehicle that they KNEW was horribly infested with rodents. They chemically bombed the van a few days before I test drove the vehicle so that it smelled like a new vehicle. I had also requested several wear items be repaired before I picked up the vehicle, and I would pay for the repairs out-of-pocket. After waiting almost two weeks, the salesman called & said the van was ready to be picked up! Upon arriving at the dealership, I observed that the items I requested to be repaired were never repaired, and the license plates hadn't even been installed on the vehicle! After discovering the rodent situation a couple weeks later, (which included a mouse nest being sucked into the main HVAC blower, ground up and blown into my face completely blinding me while passing a semi-truck on I-74) I spoke with the sales manager Julie Price, and kindly requested that they share the costs for the items that were damaged. She refused. I asked for a copy of the service records, and the salesman promptly printed out a copy. I reviewed the paperwork & showed her on their own service records that ESSIG MOTORS had just "Chemically Bombed For Smell". She replied that "it doesn't state the smell was from rodents...just says smell...we have no idea if the smell was caused by rodents or vaping". I noticed that the freshly printed service records had the previous owners' names and address on them, so I drove to their house & discovered that they had both just recently passed away. I spoke with their son, and he stated that the rodent infestation was a known and constant battle since it was barely driven & stored in a barn for almost 10 years. He stated that ESSIGS KNEW about the issue and had chemically bombed the vehicle multiple times through the years!!! Since ESSIG MOTORS refused to do anything about the situation, I filed a claim with my insurance company. Needless to say, the van has been in the process of being repaired by two body shops over the past 12 weeks and counting! Do not do business with ESSIG MOTORS...they will sell you a known defective vehicle and will act completely innocent and wash their hands of any responsibility. PLEASE learn from my mistakes and save yourself a lot of disappointment, anxiety, and ulcers...go ANYWHERE but ESSIG MOTORS!!! read more

We have used Essig motors twice to buy vehicles, 1 used and 1 new. We had amazing service and buying experiences both times. We were impressed with their attention to detail. We would highly recommend them! We drove from over an hour away because they had the vehicles we wanted, their excellent reputation, and it was well worth the drive! I debated between 2 or 3 stars. I think the combined total of working with them is "OK". I have 2 experiences with Essig, both small. 1. Bought a year old Chevy from a Honda Dealership in Burlington. They swapped the right, left and spare wheels and then realized the TPMS system tracks the position of the sensors. They couldn't fix and decided it would be easier to have me take care of it at a GM dealer under the warranty. I was dumb enough to believe it. Essig reminded me that the warranty does not cover Honda dealership decisions to play round robin with wheels and not keep the TPMS system operating correctly. Fair. They were gracious and used the GM tool to get the sensors responding correctly. It was easy, I know, but they really did not have to help if they wanted to be jerks. 2. A wheel bearing went out on my Ford Explorer. The closest Ford dealer is 20+ miles away. I called Ford and asked if they would allow a deviation from normal due to the distance. They grudgingly agreed. Essig confirmed the bad wheel bearing and say they suspected a 2nd bearing. When they called Ford to confirm they got paid for both bearings, Ford disagreed. I had to take it to a Ford dealer. Essig charged me $85+ for the diagnosis. The Ford dealer determined it was just 1 bearing and replaced it. A total charge of $360 vs $750 from Essig. Here is where I am surmising imprudence. They seem more motivated by money than by customer satisfaction. I suspect Ford would have allowed them to fix the single wheeling bearing, but because their estimate exceeded an outsource amount, Ford canned the operation. Essig's amount was more than 2x the necessary repair! Plus I lost 1/2 day due to the drive and repair time and I may or may not get the $85 diagnosis charge back. About that, Essigs diagnosis charge is $100/hr. Given the human condition to want more money, one can imagine they will generally charge in the $80-100 range. The 2 Ford dealers I have worked with have a fixed fee of $50 and $65. I'd be ok with $100/hr but only if they have a cap of $100. If they haven't figured it out in 1 hour, they should not be in business. In total, I can only given them 3 stars. read more

I had the absolute worst car buying experience of my life at this dealership. They do not clean or inspect their pre owned vehicles. I bought a used van and had to decline the delivery twice because they brought it to me in such terrible shape. Also, had about $2500 worth of repairs a month after purchase. Contacted Mr. Essig directly and his response was pretty much "sorry not sorry." If you are considering purchasing a vehicle here, I urge you to reconsider. Terrible customer service from a dealership who only cares about scamming money out of you. BUYER BEWARE! read more
