I heard about kara's services because several of my friends had had their hair done/fixed by her in the past and she is the literal only hair professional to bleach my hair and not fry it. My hair feels healthy and the color stayed vivid for a long time even though I used crappy store bought shampoo. I always go in hoping it'll look pretty nice, but she always takes it to a different level The first time I had worked with her my hair looked like a variety of dulled out colors, like orangey blonde and rusted reds- (basically looked like garbage) and she made it look so light and nice! Better than what I was expecting and it brought my confidence back ‍ Then today I go in hoping to get a light purple color and I come out with a beautiful lavender with some fancy shimmer magic. Carly was fantastic - the environment she offered was calming and soothing, and her voice was comforting as she worked swiftly, taming my caterpillar eyebrows into something more shapely. I just left Essentials (I'm sitting in my car yelping this because my experience was was so GREAT!) I made an appointment with Teresa to get my nails done (a week after I had gels done at a chop shop) Teresa gave me the most beautiful set of acrylics I have ever had (not exaggerating) She was so precise and detail oriented, she even wrote down what polish color we used so she'll know next time. Essentials was able to squeeze me in last minute when I needed a spray tan for an event. Andrea did my tan and she was great! She was super friendly and made me feel comfortable. When she was finished she gave me her card and told me to call if I had any questions or if I needed a free touch up before my event. Love love love! I've been a client for about two years now and have never been disappointed! Marissa is my stylist and she's just the best! I have very difficult hair, super curly kinda frizzy difficult to color and thinner than I would like. She always seems to work magic and I walk out of there looking better than I thought possible. I've recently started seeing Brittany for my brows and she's fantastic. She really does a fantastic job shaping my brows. Sadly I don't get in to see her as much as I'd like but because she's so good I can manage them until I make it back to see her. I've had my nails done which I don't do often and was so happy with the outcome. Also, I've had my hair styled by Kara. She has been doing my hair for about a year since I called in and was in desperate need of a cut an color for my high school reunion and was new to the area and didn't know where to go. I am indecisive so she always has great ideas for what will look good w/ my skin tone. This time we did a pretty cool twist on an "hombre" and it is gorgeous with some brighter red panels on the underside of my hair. The color stays put and the cut is always great. Shelly Hefner was my stylist and moved on to open Zimbali in Granite Bay how unfortunate and a perfect example of how unprofessional this person is. Under the previous ownership (not your clients why would I be in your records) was Gwen, Tina, Linda, Shelly...I knew them all in the Golden Age of Essentials but you can make an ass of yourself Jennifer....doesn't change you took over and as leap frogs do ran the place into the ground. Not cool!! I used to see a stylist at this salon and when I called to schedule an appointment I found out that he was no longer there. Essentials told me that they did not have his information. I explained to the lady on the phone that I wanted to cut my long hair off and go short. I wanted a funky A-line. I explained that I was nervous about switching stylist, but she assured me that she would be the one doing my cut and that she had years and years of experience. Since I had been going to the salon on and off since high school, I decided to make the appointment. Fast forward to appointment day. When I arrived (early) I was told that the lady I had spoken with was still with another client but that they had another stylist ready to cut my hair. I should have left, but I was so excited to go short, that I stayed. HUGE MISTAKE!!!! I sat down with the stylist, explained that I was ignorant when it came to hair and instead of explaining what I wanted, I brought in pictures. She looked at the pictures and said no problem! Two hours later and at least two convos with the stylist that she was going in the wrong direction, I left the salon looking like what I can only describe as a cocker spaniel. I had short hair in the back...pixie like...and these two long curly sections hanging down like ears on either side of my head. Upset and late for another engagement, I left. I figured that maybe it was just a bad styling job and once I got home, washed my hair, and styled it my own way, it would look better. WRONG! The next morning as I was styling, I found that my hair was not laying right. I called another salon and was seen the same day. The stylist took a look at my hair and pointed out all the holes around my head. In order to fix my hair, she had to cut it all off. As in a Jennifer Lawrence cut. Needless to say I was upset. To make matter worse, I my old stylist got ahold of me and he informed me that Essentials did in fact have his contact number and he had heard from other clients that they were telling people he took off leaving no forwarding info. Marissa is my hair magician! I've been to a lot of okay and even good stylists, but she really is the best. She is so knowledgeable and really takes the time to listen and work with you to achieve amazing results. She is passionate about continuing education and it shows in her work. She asked detailed questions about how I wear my hair, how I like to style (or not style ) it, and brought out the color book to make sure we were on the same page. I had some crazy layers/bangs from a bad experience with a previous stylist and she was able to work her magic to fix them. I am not someone who wants to be at the salon every 4 weeks, so at our first appointment she helped me pick a coloring technique that would allow me to stretch out visits and still look great. If you are looking for your new hair person, she is it. And she is even wonderful to talk with-- really the whole package! read more

When we moved to Granite Bay last October I had tried a couple of stylists with no success. I am 56 yrs old and my hair is gray and I color it blond. Everywhere I went they tried to give me blond but very platinum, I like it gold. After reading the yelp reviews I tried Jennifer and I am so happy. I love this salon! Jennifer has been doing my hair for over three years now. I originally came to Jennifer to fix my hair after a different stylist did a very poor job with my color. Not only did Jennifer fix my hair completely, she listened to exactly what I had wanted, and gave me an extremely fair price. I have very thick, wavy, and difficult hair to work with, but Jennifer always takes the time to cut and color it correctly. Other stylists I've visited would give up on my hair after 90 minutes, but Jennifer puts in the needed time without overcharging me. I now live in Sacramento, but still drive to Granite Bay because Jennifer really is anexcellent at what she does. She did high quality make-up for my wedding. She's done both permanent and semi permanent color on me and it always comes out exactly the way I wanted it to. Her hair cuts are amazing and I always walk out of there feeling good. Andrea is who I use for waxing and she does airbrush tanning. Also fantastic. I love all the people there. It's very laid back. No snobby hair stylist in there.
