This is a great shop that focuses on, as the name suggests, off road type vehicles (rock crawlers, 4x4s, jeeps, etc.). They are not just another shop, these guys build competition vehicles that are pretty amazing to see. But I am not a competition vehicle type guy, I just have an 02 Jeep Wrangler that needed some attention. In the past year I took the jeep to a local shop to have the issues checked out and the results were not what I hoped for as the same issues either returned or never left. So, I found this place and decided to try it out. I took my jeep along with a list of issues that I had noticed (rattles in door, dash, and read end, harsh ride, broken lock, power steering issue, sticking brakes, and more). They addressed and fixed every single issue and the jeep is riding smoother and quieter than it ever has! When they called to discuss what they had found and what needed to be done, they were polite and, most importantly, talked in a way that even I understood what the problems were and what repairs were needed. Now the Jeep needed a lot of things done because, well, it's 13 years old. I ended up with new shocks, power steering pump and reservoir, brake calipers, door lock assembly, control arms, and other repairs to fix the rattles in the door and dash area. The whole process took a week which considering that it all had to be diagnosed, parts ordered and then repaired was pretty great. I talked to a buddy who works in another shop in town and had him do an estimate for the same exact job at their shop and it would have been 22% more to do the exact same work by guys who don't just focus on my type of vehicle. But the one thing that impressed me the most was when they admitted to a mistake right away without me having to find it. Apparently during the process, something fell in the garage and scratched my passenger side door. Now this is a 13 year old jeep so it's highly likely that I would have never noticed it, but instead of following the "wait and see" or play dumb approach that many businesses would have, they were upfront and honest and offered to either knock $200 off my bill or repair the scratch (they just would need it for an extra day). I plan on doing some aesthetic improvements to the jeep in the coming year and I have no doubt that they will be done by the guys at Essentially Off Road because I can't imagine going anywhere else. How to break everything in and when to come back for service. He has been around for 20 years, that tells me he is doing something very well! They are a local business and stay very busy. I normally would never leave any type of bad review for a small business, but my experience was horrendous. I dropped off a front end to be rebuilt on a Monday and was told i could pick it up Friday. That obviously didn't happen. Fast forward to two and a half weeks later i picked my "rebuilt" unit up. As I was getting ready to install it in my vehicle, i noticed it looked like one end of the axle was just greasy and nothing been done to it. I took it back and the shop tech agreed nothing was done to that end. So i then drop it off for another 4 days to be fixed. After i picked it up this was a total of over 3 weeks and a few days. It wasn't a parts supply issue. I was flat out lied to. If they couldn't get to it in the time frame i needed they should of refused the job. I have well over 2000.00 spent on a rental truck to operate my business out of because of this very poor communication and service ran business. Forward a couple weeks later and my "rebuilt" front end is leaking gear lube out of the pinion seal. I took pictures to prove that when taken apart, who ever removed/installed new seal broke part of the case the seal rides on. I had to file this down and install a new seal. I am also pretty sure that all the bearings didn't get replaced that i paid for but at this point i wouldn't take a wheel borrow to this place to be fixed. I have no problem making sure anyone who asks about this facility gets the total picture of how they truly operate. read more

They make a decent product if you can ever get it shipped to you. I've had multiple experiences working with them in the past year and about half of them were below average. A few were good and the most recent one is absolutely unacceptable. I was told a product was shipping in two days. I check back a week later when I hadn't received tracking numbers and was told they weren't ready yet. No biggie, the product is good and it is worth a little wait. However a month later and every time I call I'm told a different story. I was actually told that other "more important" projects were being put in front of my order. Dealing with them directly may be a different story, I'm not lucky enough to be close to them. read more

Warning - under new ownership and no longer a decent place to take your 4wd for repairs. I *was* a customer since circa 2012 and this shop had great service and did good work. However since the new ownership approx 1.5 year ago took over I had (or tried( to get two sets of repairs done and the results were less than stellar as a matter of fact not even to the level if a good Hugh school automotive shop. Word of wisdom from experience - shop around and find another place. 4wd on Nolensville pk does good work and the Jeep place in Lebanon does ad well read more
