We highly recommend Essential Tree Service. Owner Greg responded promptly to my request to remove a very large tree in my front yard with a very fair quote. They arrived on time and carefully evaluated how to safely do the job. They were extremely knowledgeable, efficient and professional throughout the entire day. Mark, Jay and John were also very nice! They have all the right tools and equipment, to do the job. They took down and fully removed a very large tree which was leaning over and towards our house. The three man crew never stopped working til the job was complete and very quickly. I have changed my review, but the owner says he will come today to fix it. I paid for the full removal of the stump, but their guys didn't go below ground and I found out later. They are coming to fix it today. I recommend checking that they did the stump ground below surface. Good service so far but double check their worker's work. read more

I called this Essential tree service this week as my insurance company demanded I cut back all tree limbs on or near my roof. Greg replied to my request right away & was willing to come out soon to provide an estimate. Greg said they would try to make it by Friday but they were able to come out the next day (Thurs, Dec 19, 2024). It took them (Jay, James, Mark) about 4 hours to cut back many branches from about 3 trees. They worked nonstop! Jay said they are a family business which is great. Afterwards the driveway was cleared of debris. I believe their price was fair (under $2K) and so I recommend them highly. read more

Needed to get my 75'-100' oak tree trimmed before hurricane season. Greg, the owner came out and gave me a reasonable price to do the job. Due to problems with severe, chronic pain I sleep during the day. The day my appointment was set for Wed. 7/23 came and Greg planned on bringing his crew out after 3 p.m. to allow me to sleep and still get the job done. I believe I called/texted a message to Greg asking about when the job was to be done at about 3:30- 3:45p.m. Left message with him and he called me back in about 20 minutes. He apologetically told me he had some of his equipment malfunction. He was taking it to have it checked but still hoped to get out to me later. As I sent Greg 2 messages the following day, one at 10:17a.m. then again at 1:38 p.m. "asking if he was planning on coming by after 3 p.m. to do the tree trimming." UPDATE- I had the work done by Essential, (D&D now)? They came late so were in a hurry from jump street. Did an awful job of cleaning up after themselves. My lawn guy moved at least a half dozen large branches that had fallen off the tree out of the way so he could cut my lawn. It cost me a bit of money for that and had Essential/D&D or whatever company name being used now. Had they come earlier as they were supposed to then they might have been more careful in cleaning up the limbs they cut instead of leaving several in the tree! So, Greg, the owner(?) of the company that DID MY TREE TRIMMING, did give me a 10% discount due to my disabled veteran status. I messaged Greg at the company website. No response. I see someone named Jay mentioned in another review so maybe he's in charge? I don't know. Wish I had gotten the company that got all those 5 star ratings. Apparently, I didn't! read more

I've used them on two occasions to remove trees (and pretty tricky large trees very close to the house). I want to start by saying I usually don't do reviews. However, I was compelled to write this review for Essential Tree Service. From the very start Jay and his team did an incredible job from getting the estimate to cleanup. Jay contacted me immediately and set a time that was convenient for me and very fast. We scheduled right away to get our humongous 6 foot in diameter tree taken down. First the price was extremely fair and we received absolutely the best workmanship! These gentleman were extremely professional & great to work with. They came with a wealth of knowledge and helped to educate us throughout the entire progress. The tree was surrounded by multiple power lines & in a very tight configuration due to the proximity of our home. The communication with Jay every step of the way was spot on. I contacted several tree services for estimates who had been in the business for years, but did not measure up to Essential Tree Service at all. It was actually very frustrating because the other companies either did not get back to me in a timely manner or did not show up when estimate was scheduled. Please if you need anything tree related done, save yourself time and money and call Essential Tree Service. I highly recommend them and will be referring them every chance I get. I want to add that I have never known or used Essential Tree Service before however I was so grateful and pleased with the work they provided! Also, I am not from SanFrancisco. I am from Seminole, Florida. I've written two previous reviews and they were posted somewhere else. I hope you can locate them. I'm new at this. Sadly, they were unfavorable reviews. My tree was trimmed properly . It's when I asked Mark Smeltz if they install sod and he said yes, was where the problems started. He wanted me to pay for the sod up front and quoted me a price $3,800. Unfortunately the measurement came up short and I was charged an additional $525.00. $170O for deposit. Check made out to Issiac Hoebbel. When I asked Mark who Issiac is, he said he is the owner's nephew. Then Mark said he needed to " pay his crew" so I wrote a check to Essential Tree Service for $1,100.00. I paid $525,00 for the incorrect measurement. It's usually customary to pay the incidentals, I would think, like paying your crew in their paycheck! I was unhappy with their business practices. They were very eager to take on the job and cash my checks immediately. And when I contacted the company to ask some questions as a follow up, they couldn't be bothered with me. I thought I was more savvy than being taken! I haven't handled lawn maintenance on my own since my husband passed away in 2021.
