I've never taken up any rigorous athletic training beyond casual workout sessions at a traditional gym before starting up at WBC and I have noticed significant improvement in my overall strength. I went from knowing virtually nothing about boxing to feeling confident with gloves on. As a female I also appreciate the fact that I am not treated as a "dainty creature" and am held to similar standards as the men. Nick is a great gym leader and easily accessible if you have questions. Like his website says there are no hidden fees unlike basically every other boxing gym in the area....you pay up front for everything and that's it. Pricing is reasonable considering you get 1-on-1 training. The only concern I have had is that in coming here for a year I have worked with over a dozen different trainers. I understand that this is a part time job for them and most work two or more jobs, but it gets frustrating when I work out several times in a row with one guy who gets to know me and my limits but then have to start all over with another one who sometimes gives me conflicting advice for technique. Hopefully future clients can get some more consistency with this. With that being said, 90% of the people I have worked with have been really great teachers coming from long histories of boxing and other martial arts.

I first got wind of Juan actually surfing Yelp for local gyms- when my local Crunch shut down. So I…read morewas left with either exercising at home with my Taebos and Firm DVDs or just burning it off with stairs at the park. But deep down, I also missed and needed that personal 1-on-1 encouragement from an instructor or doing classes that I've always gravitated to. Did a dry-run one Saturday morning just to get a feel and from home to this location, is a solid 20 minutes on the Bronx River Pkwy. Parking was a snap both times I was there. Located on Main St., Juan (owner?) answered all my questions and he in turn, took his time to be as specific as possible, a tour of the gym included plus a Free Trial class whenever I wanted. Perfect! Classes here an ultimate plus for me and that's what I actually loved right from the beginning: those good old-fashioned Toning, Bootcamp, Leg Workouts that really work for me plus Personal Training. And if you're into Zumba, they got that too. The following Saturday, headed down to Tuckahoe for my Free Trial Bootcamp class with Steven who made me work Abs, Arms and Leg muscles in a totally different way. Let me put it this way, the guy was professional, on top of his game and attentive! Man...I came out of there sweating bullets and loved it! I love their pitch and what these guys stand for- but because of my personal time constraints at the moment, the 20-minute trip is what I have to consider. But this is really a cool gym and the price (and attention) is right!

I bought one for a friend and I. Honestly we could not be more pleased! Staff is very friendly, Juan the owner is extremely attentive and helpful. This is not a huge fancy gym, instead an intimate gym where your trainer knows everyone in the class by name. They offer bootcamp classes, Zumba classes and even core classes. If your looking for something different from your ordinary gym experience try I train with Juan, you will not be disappointed!

I've been studying Tai Chi at KOMAA for three plus years, starting with almost zero knowledge of…read morethe art, and it has been life changing. This is a small, non competitive school, with various instructors, all incredibly proficient and caring. The intro trial, 5 classes for $50 is by far the best way to see if KOMAA is the right place to learn and train. As I said, I study both Yang and Chen Tai Chi as a senior man, but there are classes for kids and adults in other martial arts. I have not participated in these, but I have observed, and the philosophy is constant; learn in a safe, caring and non judgmental environment and improve you life. As far as my Tai Chi journey, all I can say is to quote Lou Reed: "Tai Chi puts you in touch with the invisible power of -yes- the universe. Change your energy, change your mind." If that resonates with you, then KOMAA is the place to learn and grow.

They'll warm up, but there are definitely a few classes where everyone is looking at you like you're going to quit, so they don't bother investing any time with you. All the students were incredibly welcoming and friendly even on my first day. I was pretty nervous about my first day, but everyone made it a seamless and friendly experience. If you're new to Jiu Jitsu (like me) and thinking about starting, this has been a great place to start. Highly recommended!

From day one, the level of detail, attention, and care given to each student has stood out. It's clear they truly understand how young children learn and develop. Master Jeung runs an exceptionally well-organized program. You can feel the structure, professionalism, and genuine passion behind everything they do. We visited several "box-brand" martial arts schools before choosing WSJ, and the difference in approach is night and day -- this feels intentional, personal, and student-focused rather than cookie-cutter.
