Gillettes Espyville Marina is a true disappointment. I called ahead and was given information stating there would be a pontoon boat waiting for us. Ten minutes later, there was no pontoon boat. I kinda understand this but the sheer indifference of the woman at the counter was just uncalled for and rude. I think she derived pleasure from being able to deny us a boat. we rented a boat from this so called "business" and the boat ran fine all day and at the end of the day on the way to take it back the boat broke down In front of the marina. We called the number they said to call if anything happened for 30 minutes and the line was continuously busy. We had to end up calling 911 for someone to come get us and get the boat running again. After we got back to the marina the manly lady at the counter told us we had to pay an extra charge for them coming to get us. We tried to dispute this and told her we tried calling for 30 mins and she said we still had to pay for them coming out to the front of the marina to get their shitty boat running. We asked to speak to the owner and he said its a business he runs and he has to charge us for his boat not running. Moral of the story is that their shitty equipment failed and they charged us to rescue us from their shitty boat. I don't recommend this "business" to anyone. Find another place to rent from. read more

Horrible place! Do not waste your time or money! The boats are very old, paint peeling off badly inside and out, carpet ripped and faded and the motor broke down over and over. We didn't get the full day we paid $188 dollars for because the pontoon kept breaking down. We were not offered another boat (there were others), employees did not care and kept sending us back out in the same boat after saying that "yeah, this boat does this all the time".... SERIOUSLY?!? Boat 23 is what we had... Go take a look it's an embarrassment. If it would have ran like it was supposed to I would have ignored everything else. When we nicely asked for a partial refund due to not getting what was advertised due to the boats mechanical issues, we were treated horribly. The woman who is the manager says reviews don't hurt them and they could care less. Tried to call again this morning and was hung up on. Extremely rude and unprofessional. Save yourself aggravation and go somewhere else. Employees could care less about the customers and are only worried about making a buck.... Not sure where the money they do make is going because the boats are rundown, have lawn chairs for seating and they provide you with lifejackets that probably couldn't save anyone over 50lbs! Today we rented a pontoon. When it was time to return it, the boat wouldn't start. I called the marina non stop for at least 20 minutes and the line was busy! We didn't know what else to do and I ended up calling 911 because we were stranded! I felt bad calling an EMERGENCY LINE because a business has one line with no call waiting! Employees somehow were informed we were broke down and eventually came.... Keep in mind we were on the lake in front of the marina in clear eyesight. When we returned I was told by the women working in the building that I would be charged because they had to come get the boat started! After I expressed how unfair this was, she called the manager on the phone and informed him we were "pissed off". None of these employees or owner could see anything wrong with charging us because we needed assistance with THEIR property that was not damaged by us! Don't have your trip ruined by this business like they did to us! read more

I recently rented a pontoon boat from Gillettes Espyville Marina. I was not aware that when they asked if I had experience "operating" a pontoon boat they really meant - fixing the motor. I was expected to know that there was air in the gas line, climb over the rail of the boat, stand next to the motor, take the gas line off and let the air out and then put the line back on, then prime the motor all while floating in the middle of the lake on a very windy day with rough waters. After being stuck in the middle of the lake for over 2 hours and 3 phone calls made by me to the marina. We were finally found. No one ever called me when they could not locate our boat. No one ever offered any suggestions as to what could be wrong with the boat or what to try. I understand that sometimes things happen and boats break but I had to argue with them to only pay for 2 hours. They blamed me for not knowing how to fix the motor and for not being able to give my exact location on the lake. read more
