As we needed a break from the monotony and The Oney Frosty in Town was open, we stopped in for some delicious soft serve. This is a down home friendly place where I'm sure that if you live within 20 miles, everyone knows your name. The free reading material on one table reflects the area ranch culture and we caught one conversation about someone that had just come home after a long time away. You can also buy a locally-appropriate coffee cup for your troubles as well. The chalkboard menu above the counter is heavily weighted towards their broad burger choices. The soft serve choices are on the far right, with the shake flavors on a separate board. Gayle ordered a "small" swirl cone, while I ordered a "small" cherry shake. Both were delicious and more than we thought we were ordering. We sat outside, enjoyed some light conversation, and too soon enough we were back on the road. We really hope that we'll pass this way again.

We stopped in for lunch Friday and were surprised to see the price is now $23. When we asked about the increase, we were told the portion is now the same as the dinner portion and includes a side salad. However, when our meals arrived, the fish & chips appeared to be the same portion we've received in the past, with the only noticeable addition being a small side salad. The food was still good and our service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive and even mentioned that business has been slow and encouraged us to leave a review, which is why I wanted to share our experience honestly. I understand that costs increase and businesses sometimes need to adjust prices, particularly with a change in ownership. But nearly doubling the price of a longtime lunch special without a noticeable increase in the main portion really changes the value. At $23, it no longer feels like the great small-town lunch special that kept us coming back. We've always enjoyed the Niles and would love to continue supporting it. I hope the new ownership takes another look at the pricing, because good food and good service are definitely still there - the value, unfortunately, is not
