Stayed at Surprise valley hot springs in Cedarville so came to town for lunch one day. Most places were closed the days we stayed but Country Hearth was open and had a place to sit outside with my doggie so came here. It was a hot day so the ice water we were brought hit the spot! They have a good menu for lunch including some Mexican food choices, sandwiches, hot dogs and burgers. Ordered Cheese burgers and fries and waited outside for our order. While waiting another customer stopped by to chat a few minutes, people in this town have all been very neighborly and welcoming! Lunch arrived, no Cheese which was ok but had lettuce onion and tomato slices with a little Mayo on the bun and a large order of hot crispy fries which were enough to share. The burger was charbroiled, tasty and thoroughly cooked. Before leaving I went inside and used their restroom which was clean. They have a pastry case so I purchased a huge cinnamon roll for breakfast the next day, everything looked freshly baked. Cute restaurant with friendly service! read more

We went here for breakfast and it was perfect. I mean *perfect*. I haven't seen a properly toasted roll like that since I lived in NY. This is the sort of breakfast sandwich that Harley Quinn would give a 20-minute soliloquy about. The rolls are baked in house? Amazing. The maple bar was the best maple frosting I've ever had. The cake of the donut itself was fine. The decor was fun! Very kitschy. I will say that the service could've been a little more attentive--I had to get up and ask for a coffee refill--but five stars anyway. That's how good the food was. Visiting the area from Santa Cruz, Ca. Great homey style comfort food. Extensive menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bakery items are absolutely outstanding, tasty Wait staff are so friendly, responsive, and accommodating. First dinner, all included, was Prime Rib that included bread, salad, bake potato, and dessert. This all for a very reasonable price. A meal where I live would have cost at least 1/4 more. So grateful that this place is open 7 days a week! We were here in the off season in the middle of a snowstorm and it was the only place to get food on a Monday. Fantastic homemade pastries, homemade bread, and the best hash browns I've ever had. This is a "country kitchen" so be prepared for the country ambiance, like sitting in your grandmothers house- inviting, laid back, and full of fun old things and trinkets to look at. Wonderful little breakfast spot. Cute country ambience, playing classical on the radio to make a relaxing experience. Waiter was super friendly local, chatty but not to much. The small town of Cedarville, CA, is located in Modoc Country, in the far northeastern corner of California, just a few miles west of the Nevada state line. The town is known for ranching, tourism, and ... you guessed it.... hunting due to the rural and remote nature of the area. There are only a handful of restaurants in town, but when you're in the mood for amazing cuisine, look no further than Country Hearth Restaurant and Bakery, located in downtown Cedarville. Country Hearth Restaurant and Bakery is located on Main Street, in downtown Cedarville, CA, which has a population of around 500 people. Main Street isn't exactly busy on this Sunday morning, and I doubt whether it's ever busy, as Cedarville is located in remote Modoc County, in the far northeastern corner of California, and is the epitome of "Small Town USA." As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the decor is pure small-town"Americana," complete with knotty pine, rustic wooden tables and lots of knick-knacks decorating the walls. There is even a pair of snowshoes which could come in handy, as Cedarville experiences many "snow days" and many days with below zero temperatures. The breakfast menu covers all bases and includes something for every taste, including vegetarians. My suggestion is that you order toast, as the toast is "Texas Toast" and it is simply amazing! Considering the remote location of Cedarville, the prices are very reasonable. No wonder Country Hearth Restaurant is a local favorite! From the "Breakfast" page of the menu, I went with "#2," which gives you a choice of bacon, link sausage or sliced ham. Of course your breakfast features two eggs cooked your way, hashbrowns and toast. Like all breakfasts, coffee is included. In-house made salsa is included, along with jam. All of this goodness for $8.50! Is the year 2020 or is it 2000? Amazing! Speaking of "amazing," I ordered link sausage and my breakfast included FOUR sausage links. The links were cooked perfectly, grilled to perfection on the outside, and juicy tender inside. They were placed on a bed of perfectly fried hash brown potatoes, crispy golden on the outside, and juicy white and tender inside. As per my de facto standard, I ordered my eggs fried over easy, and they arrived perfectly "over easy." The chef at Country Hearth Restaurant has talent. The menu advertises toast is included with the breakfast. Well, this isn't just "toast," it's "Texas Toast!" The thick slices of toast arrived toasted and buttered. Frankly, I was dazzled, awed and amazed when friendly Gracie brought my breakfast to me with the toast... it wasn't something I was expecting. When she saw the look on my face, I suppose she read my mind, and she told me the toast was baked in the restaurant's bakery. The toast alone was worth the price of the meal. I didn't try the jam, as I'm not a fan of sweet preserves, but I helped myself to the fresh, in-house made salsa, and liberally spooned it to the side of my plate, and dipped my hash browns into it, for an additional taste sensation. The salsa was very mild - this is northeastern California, not Mexico - but it was fresh, tangy and very flavorful. I asked my friendly server and she told me it's a house recipe and it's made daily. In the end, I devoured the whole jar of salsa. I'm a lover of a good breakfast, but this breakfast was BEYOND good, as it was simply AMAZING! All of this goodness for $8.50, including a bottomless coffee mug. If you love breakfast as much as I do, Country Hearth Restaurant is your choice. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is totally "Americana," the service is amazing, and was SO NICE to sit on the porch and watch the lack of traffic and action on Main Street. When you're visiting Modoc Country, and you're in the mood for an amazing breakfast, lunch or dinner, look to Country Hearth Restaurant and Bakery, located in Cedarville, CA. This place was filthy. Nearly all of the tables were filthy. No one made any effort to clear them from previous guests the entire time I was there. There were filthy kids toys laying all around. There were some older ladies in the kitchen, but there was only one girl actually working. Just the cleanliness alone should have been my cue to leave. The food was terrible. The hash browns were all soggy and had the consistency of spaghetti. and the waitress was unfriendly and never asked if the food was okay. Never filled my glass. This place is awful and disgusting. Yesterday we had the pleasure of meeting Deanna "my name sake" or me hers. Such a lovely person made us feel like we were in her own kitchen having breakfast. I live just over the mountain and have tried this place a number of times over the many years of living here. Rarely, have I had a meal I enjoy at this establishment, but go because of whom I'm sharing a meal with. Today was no exception. I ordered a steak rare which was served well done. We then waited for 40 minutes, watching other people have their orders taken, before checking on our order. They lost the order and so my husband ordered again. They put the ticket at the back of the line and eventually delivered food 1 hour, 10 minutes after we'd originally ordered. The order was wrong. Neither of us got what we asked for. Tritip and ravioli dinner; homemade sauce was delicious and the serving size of ravioli was just right. Simply delicious. The tri tip had a tasty and tasteful rub along with deep grill marks all adding up to an eat every bite experience. We also had the breaded shrimp and were pleased with hot food and tasty cocktail sauce. House wine to top it off let us have a great small town dinner. Staff was pleasant and attentive. The previous night I ate the roast beef special and bae had the spagetti. Both were excellent. Red sauce was fresh and flavorful. Roast beef was tender and succulent. Both meals and breakfast came with home made garlic bread which was soft yet crisp and buttery. I ordered the linguini, and what I got was overcooked weirdly-short (the noodles were only a couple inches long, maybe they'd just broken up like that as a result of the over cooking?) linguine drowned in a bland white sauce. My friend had the steak sandwich. His steak was cooked pretty well, and had a decent flavor to it... Although the sandwich part was nothing more than two pieces of bread. No greens, onions, sauce or anything. Just two pieces of bread with the steak between them. We also had to flag down and request drink refills from the waitress. We finally did this after placing both our empty glasses at the end of the table, and having her walk past them twice without offering refills. The building is cute. And the food is food... The turnovers are very flaky, so they're kind of messy to eat, but it's like they were made with croissants. Took a long and scenic detour to get back to Cedarville and we were looking for breakfast. Friendly greeting when we walked in and we seated ourselves at a nice little table near a window. We looked over the menu and selected a breakfast with eggs, hash browns and bread. Susanne got the B&G. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash browns were brown and crispy on the outside. Everything was hot and fresh. Susanne loved the B&G so much she didn't want to share. The bread served with breakfast was amazing. It was white bread but had so much flavor, and the butter just made it better. We noticed the wonderful looking baked goods and ordered a cinnamon roll. What a treat! I know my cinnamon rolls and this one ranked at the top of the list. I also hear the doughnuts are fantastic. Next time we'll probably just go for the baked goods and skip everything else. We had breakfast on a Sunday morning and it was delicious. Two big fluffy pancakes that covered your plate. I'm not a maple syrup fan, so I asked for strawberry jam. I was expecting those little packets, but instead it was homemade strawberry jam - kudos!! Oh did I mention the 4 strips of bacon that came on top - the four basically covered the plate also - that bacon was delicious!!!
