We stopped in for lunch Friday and were surprised to see the price is now $23. When we asked about the increase, we were told the portion is now the same as the dinner portion and includes a side salad. However, when our meals arrived, the fish & chips appeared to be the same portion we've received in the past, with the only noticeable addition being a small side salad. The food was still good and our service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive and even mentioned that business has been slow and encouraged us to leave a review, which is why I wanted to share our experience honestly. I understand that costs increase and businesses sometimes need to adjust prices, particularly with a change in ownership. But nearly doubling the price of a longtime lunch special without a noticeable increase in the main portion really changes the value. At $23, it no longer feels like the great small-town lunch special that kept us coming back. We've always enjoyed the Niles and would love to continue supporting it. I hope the new ownership takes another look at the pricing, because good food and good service are definitely still there - the value, unfortunately, is not

I recommend it to coffee and pastry people every where I have spent some time around auction yards. Yelp writers recommend the cafe. So we went. Present owners,mother and daughter have run the place 45 years. It is a community center. 45 years ago I had moved from temporary wildland firefighting to a permanent job. This community Center with meals has been through a lot in that time. Each of us had an coffee, an egg, slice of french toast without powdered sugar, ham cut from a real ham, not the wide variety of ham products offered by food service suppliers. Restroom is gender-neutral. Just off the dining room. Lots of community support photos on the walls and the Alturas famous Hereford spices holders on each table. We enjoyed ourselves, appreciate the kindness and service of valley locals. Thank you. We will eat here again on our return.
