The food was great, some things were amazing, some just ok but the overall expirience was AMAZING. Its a small place (max 30 people), so it gives you a fun family vibe. They speak French and English and will do everything they can so you will have fun. In winter there is Axe throwing and you actully go to the woods to help the transfer the sap from the trees to the tube system that leads to the place they burn it. The Saint Sauveur location is a star child of this facelift. You're entering a 64,600 sq. ft. showpiece that is bright, well lit and spacious. Upon entering you'll first notice a massive patisserie counter with cupcakes, macarons and other gourmandises. Fresh produce will be a few steps behind. The new concept has a selection of "boutiques" along the perimeter, like a deli counter, charcuterie, oyster/shrimp bar and cheese counter with the prettiest 2 feet tall glass fridge containing an impressive array of local and imported cheeses. There is also a Joe Fresh collection of apparel for adults and children. The Loblaws/Provigo brand excels in going above and beyond to turn grocery shopping into an experience. The food is premium and gourmet, sampling stations are delish. Everything was taken into consideration, there's nothing boring or traditional about this store, even the floor is a popping orange. To make your shopping trip more enjoyable, the couple times I went over the holidays, they had a live jazz band playing! If you were dragged along and didn't feel like shopping, take a seat at the cantine and make use of their free wifi! The store is on the bus route and has a stop right at the front entrance. We stayed in the Old Village, less than a five minute walk to the store, so for us it was heaven sent. We were impressed at the quality of their food and most of all, their cheeses. They have a wide selection of ready-to-warm items which came quite handy as after a full day of skiing, there is little energy left to engage in from-scratch cooking. Staff is helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Overall, a most convenient, and well stocked place.

The Metro feels way more like a family grocery store than the ginormous Super C on the highway and if I need to pick up a few quick things after working in the Couleur cafe I'll pop over here. The produce and meats and fish seem fresh, though I'd love to see more of an emphasis on local sustainable providers. Fish in particular should always be clearly marked with its origin since this industry is so dirty and problematic these days. The staff are super friendly and bilingual for the most part, and again this grocery has a surprisingly good selection of local microbrews and then the usual SAQ wines. All in all a great option in the area!

This IGA - aside from being amazing in all the ways I described in my original review - seems to be setting the standard for how to properly operate under the current conditions so I wanted to share in the hopes of other grocery stores following their lead. When you arrive here, all the doors are closed except for one and when you enter that one there's a portable handwashing station like you'd see outside portopotties at a festival. So everyone is washing their hands as they enter. Then they are given a cart which has just been wiped down by the staff. Staff are also circulating wiping down the handles of fridge doors etc. Cashiers are using sanitizer between every customer and as you leave your cart is immediately wiped down again. This loving attention will save lives in our community and I really really appreciate it.

There is a small area in the butcher section of house smoked goods - we tried the trout last week and it was just so flavourful. We chatted with the gent in charge of the smoker and he said if you call a couple days in advance you can get a whole fish smoked for you, or a cut of local meat. Later that day we were at a tiny community festival in the park, and a few people from the Marché were there giving out free bites of waffles, and they recognized us right away from earlier in the day and said hi and made sure we'd remember their names for next time. When the clerk saw me going over to the manager she ran ahead of me to block me and get there first. So something's going on there. I reported them to the manager and it was another brand of Kleenex at $1.99. The manager put the purchase through as I decided to buy it. But all that cheap to purchase a box of kleenex. In these bonkers times you gotta get your treats where you can so I went looking for nice beers and vegan goodies. As usual in this region the treats are meat and dairy heavy but I like the Shawbridge beers so grabbed some of those, a vegan local Piri Piri sauce that I'm excited to try and then, at the counter, some vegan fruit candies that are actually so good. My hopes were not high but these are like Turkish delights from heaven made in house! The safety precautions were clearly in place, masks and plexiglass and sanitizer (oh my.) It's small, quick and cute and I hope it continues to expand the diversity of its local offerings to be able to continue to support the wonderful makers in the area.
