Eskaton is a wonderful place. There is not enough space here to say why but I'll try... my mom is 79 and disabled due to a stroke but can do her own things except needs help with mobility, transportation, help if she were to fall. She lived in Merced with my dad (married 55 years) and he suddenly passed away. We had to hurriedly find her a senior residence closer to me or my sister with the 24 hour front desk, pull cord in the bathroom and pendant to wear around her neck to push a button for emergencies. Eskaton has all that and more! My sister also lives very close by so the location was perfect. Let's start with Joey, the first person I spoke to on the phone who runs the entrance area/front desk - he had no idea who I was or what we'd been through and he was just the friendliest kindest voice ever. He needed to transfer me to Latoya to inquire about apartments, but I already had a great feeling about it just because of how Joey treated me in that first interaction. Then Latoya was also extremely friendly, empathetic and more than happy to take the time to go over in detail how Eskaton works, which apts were available, pricing, and emailed me floor plans and the Eskaton calendars with meals and daily activities. She was glad to reserve the apt mom wanted even before we could get paperwork/deposit back to her, being out of town and at this time still dealing with my dad's passing, his service, packing to move...they both made a terrible situation into an exciting and welcoming new start. Tristin was next, helping to formalize paperwork and just the sweetest kindest person. They answered all my million questions and Latoya took a video and pictures of the apartment so mom could plan and feel more comfortable about the move. My mom LOVES it here. The place is classy and decor is beautiful. I'm jealous of her adorable apartment! The residents make a point to chat and say hello in the hallway, elevator, dining room. She loves all the activities - seated exercise classes, Ted talk viewings, live music, libraries on 2 floors. Most of all she feels very, very safe and welcomed. The food is delicious and we eat with my mom all the time. They also encourage (if people want to) to sit with others in the dining area. My mom right away started off with a nice group of women including her neighbor across the hall. She enjoys the social aspect of the meals. Often she is very busy with activities and doesn't have time to call us! Helen in the dining room is wonderfully sweet and so fun to talk to. She seats you and comes to every table to say hi and chat for a moment, which we love and I think for those who choose to eat solo it's nice to still interact. At Eskaton you're never really alone, there are friendly staff and residents everywhere. Toni in housekeeping is also friendly and kind and does an amazing job, my mom loves talking with her and seeing her weekly. My mom's apartment is always super clean and fresh thanks to Toni! Tom and Roberto who do all the repairs/hook up cable/hang pictures are so sweet and funny...my mom always talks about how they helped her decorate and they even put together a new walker for her so she didn't have to wait to use it! Recently, believe it or not, my sister actually started having stroke in their lobby!! My mom called it and yelled to Joey they needed an ambulance, he called right away and this is the whole entire reason my sister will make a full and fast recovery. The hospital said it's miracle-it is!! I want to also call out Matthew, Ellen, Daniel, Minayah, Arsel as just so sweet and wonderful. They have helped us out multiple times with literally everything. The building is super secure, the residents are watched over carefully, it's just perfect. I will also share that my mom has only been there 1.5 months and already this is our impression. read more

My review is for the activity coordination/ enrichment director. I left several messages for the coordinator over a couple months span asking if there was interest in my music students performing for the residents at Eskaton. (They have performed here before and it was a great success.) The coordinator never returns calls or messages. I never received word back, even after leaving my information and contact number and a voicemail several times (at the desk as well). It is really disappointing to not be acknowledged, have no communication whatsoever and a disappointment for my students not to have an opportunity to play at this time. My mother lived at Eskaton Monroe Lodge for 6 months until she passed, and I can't say enough good things about this residence. The staff is phenomenal. They are consistently friendly, helpful, and understanding of the seniors that live there. The services are great and take a large burden off aging seniors. The community there is so abundant, they always have multiple activities each day, and lots of chances to be around others and engage in lots of fun events. Happy hours, golfing, movie nights, holiday celebrations, etc. Christmastime is especially beautiful in the facility and that really helps when residents may be feeling blue from having lost a spouse or partner, or just from general life changes. My mother said to me that she always felt safe here, and that's an invaluable feeling during a vulnerable time. I'm eternally grateful to the staff here for making my mother so comfortable and cared for. read more

I am so impressed with Eskaton Land Park. The staff (including Ellen and Joey and LaToya) are so friendly and welcoming. There are so many activities to keep you busy if you want. Educational programs, exercises, art projects, games, field trips, book groups, and many more. The variety of meals is amazing and very tasty. We are so glad that we found Eskaton Land Park for my father. He has lived there for 4 years now. The staff is kind and helpful for the residents as well as family. They helped us find rehab and home services after a health issue. There are lots of activities for many interests. Monroe Lodge has a spectacular location near William Land Park with its excellent walking trails, golf course, and pond. It is close to Raley's, the new Safeway, Taylor's Market, and Rite Aid. It also offers many activities for residents, including exercise programs, musical performances, and trips to points of interest in the area, including some good restaurants. However, finding healthy meals here at Monroe Lodge is not so easy. The food is 1950's style, with lots of red meat, and little variety in vegetables. We are missing the Farm to Fork trend in Sacramento. read more

Came here for an art show and was treated to a wonderful experience! The facilities were beautiful, the food tasted great, the employees were really engaged with everyone and seemed to enjoy their jobs. But most importantly, the residents seemed so happy! I wanted to move in myself! I really enjoyed myself, and I like that they put on such nice programs for their residents and the public. read more

Nice building, lovely grounds and terrific staff -- best independent living for seniors in town. My grandmother lived here for four years after I'd researched the other available options. I'd asked around to various contacts who work with elders where they'd prefer their family members to live. The building is comprised of separate apartments with either two bedrooms, one bedroom or a studio. There are emergency pull cords in the bedrooms and bathrooms but otherwise it is categorized as independent living. The food, which is served in a congregate dining room, ranged from decent to great, depending on the day. Services included: - a van that went all over town (doctor's appointments, errands, stores, special outings); - an art room; - a library; - a wonderful garden; - a hot tub; - various social groups and activities/clubs; - exercise classes; - a game room with large screen TV and pool table; - an on-grounds beauty shop; - a little shop that sold cards, sundries, and gifts; - seasonal celebrations and performances in their social hall; - a huge sitting area with a grand piano; My grandmother made lots of friends and even had a boyfriend! Not bad for a gal in her nineties! When her health began to fail I was worried that she'd be forced to move out to a higher level of care. Not so. They allowed me to hire around-the-clock care to assist her in her final months and finally hospice at the end. She died in her favorite chair in her own apartment. I was able to keep my promise to her that I'd never allow her to be taken to a nursing home. I have nothing but great things to say about the staff here from top to bottom. They all walk on water as far as I'm concerned. The administrators were top notch -- gentle, professional, flexible and caring. Front desk staff remember your name and are helpful and friendly. Dining staff are patient, kind, and respectful. The maintenance staff keep the building in working order and drop what they are doing to help residents. They were kind and helpful to my grandmother and me from the moment I initially toured the building until I carried out the last of my grandmother's belongings. I am beyond grateful to them for all of their kindness, patience, and good work. read more

If you've never visited this community, I highly recommend that you do soon! I've visited this Eskaton many times over the past few years, and every time is always a wonderful experience. Its beautiful grounds fit right in with Land Park! The inside of the building is always very clean upbeat, and welcoming. I was surprised and very impressed the first time I saw the back grounds! I never would have guessed there to be a putting green, spa, and more in the back - very peaceful. Their annual BBQ bash (I believe in early June every year) is a fun event, and great inclusion of the Sacramento community. Staff has always been very friendly and able answer any questions I've had. Residents also are very welcoming, and happily say "hello" to visitors. Awesome location, great inside and out, knowledgable/caring staff, and welcoming residents! read more

My grandmother lives at this community, and we are very pleased with pretty much everything about it. Her apartment is adorable, with a little balcony where she can sit and watch the traffic go by. They have music sometimes in the afternoon, brunches, and other activities that families can enjoy together. The staff is helpful, and a lot is included in the base rent. We always find my grandma happily sitting in the lobby with her (free!) morning coffee, watching people come and go, otherwise she is out in their garden, enjoying the sunshine. There's even a mini-golf course out there and a hot tub! I would definitely recommend this place to anybody who is looking for a nice place for their parents or even themselves. read more

I have lived here since February 2014. I would rate this 4.5 stars but Yelp forces me to round it down, not up. No place is perfect, not even Eskaton Monroe Lodge. I love this place! I moved into Eskaton Ben Romano on Freeport Boulevard in March and I have lived and enjoyed it sense. I take full advantage of the food and housecleaning and other amenities the staff are stellar the grounds are well-maintained and the people are amazing. read more

My father has been a resident for two years now and we both wish he and my mother had moved in years ago. It would have been easier to make friends and the social activities would have been great for my mom. Dad is surprised how much it feels like home. The people who work there are very caring, there's always something going on, and he enjoys the food. They have many off site activities which seem quite fun. While the facilities are not as fancy as the newer places being built, it is safe, clean, comfortable and feels like our whole family is part of a community. read more

Eskaton Monroe Lodge was a beautiful place for my mother to live for over six years. She had to move into a higher level of care facility, however, Eskaton was always "home". The staff was attentive and kind. The food was great. The facilities were lovely. My only regret is that my father and mother didn't get a chance to enjoy living there together before he passed on. They would have had a lot of fun with the other residents. I am truly grateful for the time my mother spent at Eskaton--truly grateful! read more

I helped my uncle look at and evaluate several independent-living residences, and we both thought Eskaton Monroe Lodge seemed like a good fit for him. Scott, the sales counselor we worked with, was very helpful (and patient!) while guiding us through the application process, the move-in details, and arranging for new furniture to be set up and arranged. I can't imagine the process having been easier. My uncle has commented on how friendly everyone--staff and residents--has been, and he loves the food! I live on the East Coast, and I feel reassured having my uncle in such a warm and caring environment. read more

My father-in-law lived at Eskaton Monroe Lodge for a little over a year. The staff there were amazing. They could not have been more helpful getting him moved in and moved out and on an everyday basis throughout the year. We had started his move during a health crisis and immediately realized that he'd need more services than were provided in an independent living facility. The staff helped us bring in additional care and helped us maintain it and keep tabs. During the year they put a huge amount of work into helping him meet the requirements of his long term care policy, minimize his cable bill and adjust to life without a car. They were always available to us by phone, email or to meet in person. The facility is very pleasant, clean and well-maintained - they always go all out decorating for holidays. My FIL had one meal a day included with his rent. He always chose dinner and when we would visit we were always happy with the food. Meals are served restaurant-style at tables of four. My FIL is pretty shy so it worked out well that the dining room staff regularly sat him with three super sweet women. When he wasn't well enough to go downstairs he could have his meals brought to his apartment for a small fee. There is a wide variety of activities for residents to choose from on a daily basis (field trips, exercise class, "Koffee Klatch", bingo, musical performances, etc.). There are also storage spaces, a driver available on certain days to run errands, very friendly front desk help and an onsite hair salon. I don't know what we would have done last year without the support of the Eskaton Monroe Lodge staff. read more
