In a world where medical care can often feel rushed, impersonal, or transactional, he stands out as a rare kind of physician--one who truly cares about his patients as human beings. From the moment you walk into the exam room, you can feel his sincerity. He listens--really listens--to what you're saying. He doesn't talk over you, he doesn't dismiss your concerns, and he doesn't treat you like just another appointment on the schedule. Instead, he takes the time to understand what's going on, both medically and personally, and he approaches every situation with compassion and professionalism. Dr. Cubbison has consistently provided me with the care I need, including the medications that help me function and stay healthy. Keep in mind, they not only let us sit there all that time, it was also mentioned about my service dogs when I made the appointment. They immediately tried to schedule me somewhere else instead of trying to fix the situation. Keep in mind, it is illegal to deny service based on allergies or fear of dogs, per federal law (ADA). It turned into another hour of calling and talking to different people and them trying to "negotiate" with me. Read, they wanted to figure out a way to not accommodate us, while making it look like they were "working with us." I only needed to get a refill on meds. That was literally it. So, 2 1/2 hours later, and being forced to put my service dogs in the car, I finally saw the doctor and was able to leave. The whole situation was not only illegal, it was just plain unethical. You don't ask someone to be separated from their medical equipment. End of the day, it comes down to this: You can take Benadryl. I can't stop being disabled. You might have to suffer through some discomfort for the rest of the day. I'll be spending the rest of the week dealing with the physical, mental, and emotional fallout.

From the moment I arrived, through surgery, and into recovery, I was surrounded by people who truly care about what they do. Dr. Michael Shumaker, my surgeon, and the entire operating room team were absolutely outstanding. Going into a second surgery can come with a lot of emotions, but I had complete confidence in their skill, professionalism, and teamwork. I am deeply grateful for the care and precision that went into my procedure. I also want to recognize the entire surgical staff in the room that day. While I may not know every name, I know I was in the hands of a highly coordinated and dedicated team that ensured my safety and success. Recovery was the most challenging part, especially when it came to pain control--but this is where this hospital truly showed its strength. The recovery team worked hard to get my pain under control. They did not give up on me, and that matters more than anything. Pain after surgery is real, and having a team that continues to adjust, respond, and care makes all the difference. A very special and heartfelt thank you to Mike Gemma, the anesthesiologist. What he did for me went above and beyond. He stepped in, advocated for me, and made sure my pain was taken seriously by speaking directly with the nursing staff. That kind of advocacy is rare, and it changed my entire experience. I will never forget that. I also want to recognize the nurses and staff who made a lasting impact on me: Patrick D--there are not enough words to thank you. You cared for me during one of my most vulnerable moments, and you did it with dignity, compassion, and zero judgment. Thank you for staying on top of my medications and helping keep my pain controlled. Your attentiveness, responsiveness, and commitment to my comfort made a huge difference, especially during the hardest hours when staying ahead of the pain mattered most. Brooke--thank you for being part of my care and for communicating with the anesthesiologist to help improve my pain management. That effort did not go unnoticed and played a role in getting things where they needed to be. Jessica from Physical Therapy--you were an absolute hoot. You made me laugh, kept me motivated, and somehow made physical therapy feel less intimidating and not nearly as rough as it could have been. That kind of energy is a gift, and it made a real difference in my recovery. Valerie--your housekeeping and hospitality were truly exceptional. You did more than keep the room clean. You brought comfort into it. Your kindness, attention to detail, and warm presence made a huge difference in how I felt during my stay. Dr. Saalouke knows his stuff! I have been going to Dr. Saalouke since I was 3 months old. I am now 22. Still I go for checkups at least once a year, and I actually look forward it. I really do love everyone there and I could never say enough amazing things about them all. They've all been there for me since the beginning. First off, not only is Dr. Saalouke a fantastic doctor, he's a great guy. You can tell that he actually truly cares about his patients. Marcy, the echo tech, is awesome and so sweet. They are both so good at what they do. When you call up, more than likely you'll get Diane. She's great too and very helpful. If you are looking for a good pediatric cardiologist in the Youngstown area, give Dr. Saalouke's office a call. I am sure that he would point you in the direction of an excellent pediatric cardio thorasic surgeon or recommend another great doctor if he doesn't specialize in what your child has.
