We've officially found our new favorite restaurant in Valencia. Escargol is a beautiful family-owned spot serving authentic Valencian cuisine, and from the first bite to the final sip of coffee, the entire experience was outstanding.
What makes this place special is that it feels genuinely authentic--high-quality ingredients, locally sourced products, and traditional recipes prepared with obvious care and experience. We had the chance to meet one of the chefs, who has been cooking traditional Valencian food for over 30 years, and it absolutely shows in every dish. The owners were incredibly warm and welcoming, recommended several plates for us, and every suggestion was excellent. The staff was attentive throughout the meal and also spoke English, which was a nice bonus.
We started with the Carpaccio de Bacalao con Tomate, and it was phenomenal. The bacalao was sliced paper-thin and paired beautifully with ripe tomato, robust extra virgin olive oil, and toasted bread finished with olive oil and paprika. The balance of salty, fresh, and rich flavors was exceptional.
Next came the Flauta al Horno with sobrasada, bacon, and jamón york--an oven-baked crispy bread filled with melted sobrasada from Mallorca, bacon, and ham. This may have been one of the best sandwiches we've had in Spain. The sobrasada melted into every bite, creating an intensely flavorful, savory filling that was absolutely addictive.
The Alcachofas Crujientes con Foie was another standout--crispy fried artichokes topped with creamy seared foie. Rich, savory, and perfectly balanced. An unforgettable dish.
We also ordered the Puntilla Rebozada, lightly battered baby squid fried until golden and crisp. They were delicate, tender, and not greasy at all--delicious on their own, but even better with a squeeze of fresh lemon.
To finish, we had the Quemadito (Cremaet Casero Especial), a traditional Valencian-style coffee cocktail made with burnt sugar, dark rum, hot coffee, and creamy foam. Smooth, warming, and the perfect ending to an exceptional meal.
Escargol is a must-visit for anyone looking for authentic Valencian cuisine in Valencia. Between the outstanding food, welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and true passion behind the restaurant, this was one of the best dining experiences we've had in the city. Highly, highly recommended. read more
