Pickleball Kingdom had its Grand Opening Day on Thu, 3/26/2026. It's conveniently located in the…read moresame plaza with Trader Joe's on Fairway Dr. Close to the Pleasant Grove exit off 65. It occupies the former location of Big Lots. There is parking both in front and in back of Pickleball Kingdom. I did see a homeless man in back with a sign asking for recycling containers, so front parking was preferable and closer to the entrance.
To sign up for the Grand Opening weekend events, you needed to create a Pickleball Kingdom app account.
11 courts each with a separate paddle rack (holds 8 paddles) and a digital scoreboard that keeps track of players' names, who is serving, and team wins. You program it from a tablet close to the net. It's a bit troublesome scrolling to find your first name. If you scroll to the very bottom, you can type in your name. Maybe there is some shortcut way to tap and bring up the name field box? I was so lucky my name was on the first page!
On each side of the court, there is a button you push whenever your team wins the rally. If you accidentally add a point, double press to remove it. If you hold down the button, you can watch an instant replay and have it emailed to you at the end of the session. Such a fun, cool, and helpful feature! I can actually analyze my play for the first time in my life. The Instant Replay is useful in reviewing line calls. The video clips are 25 to 30 seconds long.
Space on the sides of the court is a bit tight, so you might not be able to hunt down every wide ball without crashing into the court perimeter fence.
Bring your own ball to play with.
There are 2 practice walls. One is linked to PIQLZ software and app. I couldn't quite figure out when and how it exactly worked despite downloading the app and scanning the QR code. It's fun to warm up with. It would be more fun once I learn how to control it. Right now, I could only play with it 10 seconds at a time, which is too short a period.
Primarily 80's music was playing, some 90's. I heard Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, George Michael, Spandau Ballet, Kenny Loggins, Peter Cetera, and Roxette!
There is an exercise area in the back. Not a separate room.
2 party or meeting rooms. 1 upstairs lounge with a nice view of the facility.
Restrooms, lockers (no instructions on how to use yet), and water fountains and dispenser in front.
Selkirk and Jolle paddles and merchandise for sale. Pickleball Kingdom apparel also for sale.
Eventually, a self-checkout fridge with food and drink will be available.
I signed up for the 11 AM session in hopes of trying the free pizza from Pizza Factory. I also signed up for the 2 PM session because that's more my usual playing time and when some friends would be showing up. There were 2 large Trader Joe's charcuterie boards for the 2 PM session. By the time I arrived around 11:15 am, all but 1/4 pizza was gone. I got to taste some pepperoni pizza, which was cut into small squares. Charcuterie board was more satisfying with the blackberries, strawberries, olives, salami, asparagus, and various cheeses being my favorite bites.
The 11 am session was more crowded than the 2 pm session. Some paddle racks had 8 paddles waiting. I took my sweet time to eat, take pictures, drill against the practice wall, and stretch, so by the time I began playing after 12:30 pm, I alternated between sitting out 1 game and playing 1 game.
Max of 130 people were allowed to sign up for each session during Grand Opening weekend. It seems like play will be on a reservation basis, requiring you to sign up in advance.
Founder's membership saves you $10 per month for the first year only ($129 per month versus $139) and avoids the $100 joining fee. Not cheap, but location is so convenient and the lighting is better than other local indoor pickleball facilities. "Monthly memberships have a 2-month commitment with a 30-day cancellation notice." Annual membership saves more money by giving 2 months free, but you have to pay the full amount after the first Grand Opening month.
I heard from another player that a member can bring in an accompanied guest for $15 drop-in. If you come in by yourself unsponsored, it's $30 drop-in.
The Pickleball Kingdom founder's swag bag included a water bottle and your choice of either a royal blue logo baseball cap or a T-shirt.
Best wishes to Pickleball Kingdom! Welcome to Roseville.
