I'm very glad we decided to go. We selected The Curse of the Evil Genie. I have done 3 or 4 other escape rooms and this one was very fun. We were 4 in our room and after a quick intro from our game master Laura we started the room. First she was amazing, explained everything very well and was not only helpful and funny when providing hints but also encouraging, which to us made us feel good that we were going in the right direction. It's so rewarding getting positive feedback when you solve a puzzle. There were plenty of surprises and great variety of puzzles to keep you engaged. We liked it so much that if there hadn't been another group coming right behind us, we would have stayed to try to solve another room. An escape room is about 3 things: the people you are with, the engagement of the room itself and last but certainly not least the game master and Escape Hour definitely had all three. Thanks Escape Hour and specially Laura for making it a great experience!

There are a lot of different escape rooms in Calgary. You can find their posters on community…read moreboards in Starbucks or hear about them on the radio, but if you want a true escape room experience ignore all those advertisements and go with the best. Most escape rooms will make things harder by making you work in the dark with a flashlight. Most escape rooms will give you a buzzer or button to call in an attendant to help you if you get stuck. You won't find any of that cheap, time-stealing nonsense here. You want it harder? Escape Hour gives you more challenging puzzles and more of them. You want help? There's a dedicated staff member watching and listening in and if you need help they will put hints on a tv display in the room for you to use (or ignore as we did most of the time) rather than coming into the room, disrupting your experience and not knowing what stage you're at before they help you. This means you don't lose time, you get immersed in the experience, and the best part? They will never give you the answer, just hints to help you figure it out for yourself. They have four rooms that rotate in theme and when we went, and will be for a few months still: -The Lost Jewel of Zanzibar (african safari) -The Curse of the Evil Genie (arabian nights) -Prohibition - the Lucky Duck (speakeasy) -Cypherspace (interstellar) I did the Zanzibar one. The rooms are amazing, with authentic antiques and period items fitting each theme. They are all based on true stories, and are so much fun that you can't help but dive into it. When we went into our room the door closed and we just scattered. It was so much fun, I can't wait to do the other three themes! The puzzles and setup is great for all ages and experience levels. With the different themes and difficulty levels, Escape Hour rooms are great for families, professional groups, or just having fun for an hour. The staff are friendly and you can tell they care about the experience with the dedication and quality put into the rooms. If you want the best escape room in the city go to Escape Hour. You'll have a blast!

The puzzles were very interactive and fun. The decor for the room was great. We had a group of 5 for the room which was great being able to have us all in the room and it wasn't super big but we were all able to still fit and move around. The staff were very friendly and even were able to get us into our room early which was super nice. After we finished our room they let us take any pictures we wanted, after you do an escape room I always recommend a team photo. Location is a newer industrial park with lots of parking and a couple food places nearby. There are bathrooms and lockers to lock up your stuff. The graffiti walls are a great touch! There is only a little bit of seating and nothing interactive to do while you wait for your room in the lobby but they are using their space for the escape rooms so I can't complain. This location is new and has only been open for 4 months and it sounded like they are slow on Sunday's so it might be better to make your bookings then if your looking for a specific time frame. Hits in abundance! The nice thing was you could push for a hint anytime. Unlimited hints definitely took the stress away and boosted our confidence to take on this room and escape! If you get stuck on a puzzle for 10-15 minutes call for a hint is what they recommend. Check it out!

I was disappointed this time around. A couple weeks ago my friends and I did the prison escape…read moreroom. Based on the numbers they provide on their website it seemed like it would be a good challenge. It really wasn't. Also we were mislead by what one of the staff told us when he was giving us the rundown of the room. *****SPOILERS***** The way this room works is that you're trying to escape from prison. You start in a cell and once you escape you quickly find out there are two other rooms that you have to get through. All of the puzzles are very sequential and there's nothing really tough about this room. You're just following a path laid out with puzzles that aren't that hard to figure out. My group escaped with one hint given. The hint was given on the final puzzle where you have to find the three police badges. One of them is in the rubiks cube. What threw us off about this one is that the staff member at the beginning of the room told us that anything we found in each room wouldn't be needed for the next room. This isn't true since you have to go back to the first room to solve the rubiks cube. This is also the only puzzle that makes you do that, that takes you out of a sequential order. This would be fine if other puzzles had things that threw you off or took you back and forth through the rooms looking for hints. But they don't. Kind of a poorly designed room. Also a boring one for the lack of diversity in the puzzles.

Fun fun fun The best part was the super engaging staff…read more Several of them helped us out and they were all awesome! I particularly like how they encourage and basically won't let you start your room until you pick a team name. A great way to encourage people to get their team spirit on! Top it off with a picture after your done your room regardless of if you finished or not. The variety of coroplast signs you can hold up were a super great touch! I noticed several times if a doorbell for a hint was requested the staff would run- something I really appreciated seeing in the staff as when your time is ticking and your stuck the worst is waiting for your hint man to come. Having been to several rooms before we have experienced our share of rooms and found the 911 room challenging but very accomplish-able. The puzzles were well designed and little difficult math was required to solve them. All the gadgets and locks in the rooms worked with no issues. Plus we had the staff demo how to use the locks we would encounter in the room before we started- very appreciated!!! The 'bonus' part of this room I don't think we ever would have gotten without a hint but before we called for a hint we made a guess and our time was up- kaboom!. Having basically finished the room we still felt great and all had a fun time. They did advise us they re-vamped this room and it is no longer considered their easiest starter room but the second most difficult. The more linear layout of puzzles makes this not as difficult as some other rooms we have experienced. Definitely recommended!

One had finished their room and were watching their friends attempting a room on a monitor and a second group of ladies were waiting for the group that was being watched to finish so they could go in. The group that was watching their friends were quite loud and obnoxious. They were discussing the different puzzles and solutions while the group of ladies were waiting to go into that room. The female employee working asked them to quiet down and not discuss anything because the ladies were going into that room next, but one guy just kept going on. Terrible. Also, the male employee behind the desk showing the group the feed didn't seem to be helping and was quite into what was going on. Gladly my group wasn't doing that room so no spoilers for us. We did the 911 room. The premise of the room is that 4 university students have been murdered. The murderer has set a trap for the detectives (you) and you're locked in the room with a bomb that will go off in an hour if you can't solve the murders. We escaped with 2 minutes to spare, using one hint. One hint for a very poorly worded puzzle that was very misleading. I won't say anything else about that. No spoilers! Overall the room was ok but not extremely challenging. The different types of puzzles varied enough that it wasn't repetitive. There was really only the one poorly worded puzzle that stumped us for about 20 minutes, otherwise we would have escaped the room with tons of time. On a more positive note, the signs they give you to hold for your group photo when you finish are a fun addition.
