When the Parador de Aiguablava came up, he asked me if I minded that this Hotel was a modern building and not a former Castle or Convent. I admitted that this barracks-like alabaster structure was a little boxy. However, when Gayle and I considered the magnificent Costa Brava views, the superb service, and the surrounding beaches and sights, it doesn't get much better than this. In fact, the only compatible Parador experience on this trip were the amazing Mountain views at their facility in Vielha. Gayle would also go as far to say that she would have given up a day in Barcelona to stay here longer. This modern Parador is a superbly located hotel on the Punta D'es Muts and is surrounded by pine trees overlooking the sea. The Parador maximizes its cliff-side perch with large windows everywhere, including the Restaurant/Breakfast Room, Lounge, various sitting rooms, and even the business meeting area. We spent a lot of time on our room balcony just relaxing and taking in the view. There's also an ocean-side Lounge were we did the same over cocktails. The Parador also operates a separate restaurant and beach in a cove below. However, it was October and that was closed for the season. This is also the perfect place to venture out and enjoy the area's beautiful beaches, cliff walks and explore the coves in a gorgeous natural environment.

We were advised to order three or four seasonal plates each, and then the service and kitchen team organized our selections into an elegant tapas tasting titillation. Service was very friendly, yet efficient and timely when necessary. Wine list was nicely put together with mostly affordable Spanish gems. Dining room is smaller than small, filled with characters, an equal mix of tourists and Spaniards alike. Don't go here for a romantic/quiet dinner! There are limited tables - this place is very popular - so, make sure you have a reservation. Not sure if they are open for lunch service - I think they serve dinner only.

The food is more a Catalan style "tapas" that is created by Sergi. What Sergi seems to strive for is emphasizing the different favors as he works his magic. I have eaten here several times and each time I come away thinking how great the meals were. Catalan has many fine restaurants and this restaurant just made the fine restaurants list larger.

The unassuming entrance to this restaurant adds to its charm, located off the Calle Pi I Rallo (a good chunk of restaurants are located on that lane). A primitive looking wood-fired oven is in the back left corner of the narrow dining room, where we could see the chef preparing a majority of the grilled/baked dishes; the service dispense bar is to the right. When everything is going well, this is a charming little place, and if it wasn't for the slight inconsistencies mentioned above, I would have given it a perfect review, 5 out of 5. The restaurant is a bit outside the main pedestrian area of Begur, but worth finding for the two dishes we really recommend there: the pigs trotters and the duck magret. I have to take the word of the person who had the pigs trotters, but my duck was exceptional. Just a family operation, so service a little erratic, but can get by with English, and service is friendly and helpful.

An open courtyard adds a lovely dimension to the restaurant space, with tables scattered here, there, and everywhere, filled with all sorts of people having a good time.
