This person immediately put me ill at ease at our first appointment. She did not seem as if she had read my chart and when I asked to talk about an incredibly painful condition from a slightly different angle, she snapped at me and told me that if I didn't want to answer her questions the way she framed them. I did not need to be in her office. When I seemed panicked, she accused me of yelling at her, which I did not. She does not seem to have any sort of bedside manner, and in fact seems like somebody who may increase your sense of trauma and harm --steer clear. read more

I rarely write Yelp reviews. I had an appointment to discuss a painful hormonal condition that has recently had a flareup, and to seek care. I Dr Griffiths seemed checked out from the get go and made me ill at ease in her first question. When I asked to talk about what I was experiencing from a different angle-- essentially taking a long way into what I'm going through-- she was bossy and curt, and told me that "if I felt like I couldn't talk to her, I could look elsewhere." She seemed like she was on a power trip and she literally escalated to refusing to listen to me at all within 3 minutes of me walking in the door. It was kind of horrific, like walking in with a broken leg, having a doctor twist it hard, and then being kicked out for yelping. She really was the worst doctor I've encountered in a long time. Steer clear. read more

I have never published/written a negative review in my life. I really should have read the Yelp reviews before making an appointment. I reached out over a month ago and agreed to a mid-January appointment, which was then rescheduled (first red flag). I received an incredibly curt and condescending response when I asked to confirm the new appointment time (I had missed something in the previous email, which she pointed out in a way that was clearly intended to make me feel stupid). I spent my most recent session with my usual therapist preparing for this session with Dr. Griffiths, writing down and preparing myself to talk about extremely traumatic events. For those who have had to deal with PTSD/ depression, this is an incredibly difficult task to do. And with my depression, I tend to sleep a lot - I fell asleep and was 15 minutes late to my SIXTY minute session. I was refused my appointment, despite the fact that there was 45 minutes left. The next appointment out wasn't for weeks. It's very hard for me to believe that this practice takes mental health seriously. I do not understand how it operates as a psychiatry practice, where empathy and validation should be the top priorities. They are dealing with people who have severe illnesses (I'm not just a little sad) and doing so with very little mercy. Refusing to meet a severely ill patient because she was 15 minutes late and offering an appointment that is a month out.... how is this your profession? read more

I've known Dr. Griffiths for 3 years and I'm convinced she is one of the best psychiatrist in the bay area. For me, that comes down to effectiveness, empathy, and environment. 1) Effectiveness: Overall she is a great doctor that helped diagnose and treat my disorder. She informs me about side effects so I know what to look out for and makes adjustments as issues arise - all the while considering my overall wellbeing by, for example, finding alternatives to a medicine that may have addictive properties. She's professional, knowledgeable, and answers my questions thoroughly. These days I'm getting back on my feet in a way that I thought I never would 3 years ago. 2) Empathy: I've had many insurance changes so I've seen a lot of different psychiatrists; I was struck by how cold and apathetic other doctors were. In complete contrast, Dr. G is incredibly warm, listens exceptionally well, remembers things about you, and makes you feel like she cares about your health and happiness (e.g. through her affect, affirmation, advice). 3) Environment: Dr. G opened a new practice (Mensana SF) and it's a really awesome office. Most importantly, the office staff, like Brandie and Monica, are fantastic. They're the best office staff I've encountered. They are very nice and hilarious, which makes the visit great from start to finish. They're also precise, I haven't had any issues with them in terms of scheduling appointments or calling in prescriptions. They are truly an anomaly and refreshing from the other offices that I've dealt with that had irate receptionists that tended to mess up appointments (I really think for mental health offices, general niceness to suffering patients seems like it should be a given). Also the office itself is relaxing and looks like it's out of a magazine. The furnishing is modern and tastefully done - which makes the whole process feel much less clinical. As someone that felt the difficulty of finding a doctor in the bay area and read tons of reviews in search of a good one, stop your search and take my word for it that you won't regret coming into Mensana. I moved an hour away and I didn't even consider finding another doctor. read more

Dr. Griffiths is fantastic! I highly recommend her and her team for their insightful care.

Dr. Griffiths is wonderful. She really listens and takes into account any concerns you may have. She is exceptionally skilled and understanding. I really trusted her opinion and input. 0/5 stars for the reception staff. Because of them I won't be back. They don't answer emails (I doubt they even read them), they don't return phone calls, they rarely ever answer their phone. This has happened almost every time I've called or contacted them and it has happened to a family member too.. When I've called they have had the "at lunch" messaged all the way until 1:45pm multiple times. I am a receptionist at an emergency vet hospital so above all else would be understanding of things being busy and not being able to answer the phone right in that moment. Things happen and you can't give certain things your attention, I get that 100%. However, I don't understand why phone calls, emails, or voice messages aren't returned or listened to...whatever system is going on over there doesn't work. Hopefully others won't have the same issues in the future. read more

Dr. Griffiths has worked with me and for my health since 2015. I have made enormous progress dealing with many issues I have worked through and continue to work on. The successes in my improving mental health dealing with anxiety and depression rest on the holistic approach she developed to help me cope with these conditions. Over the past few years, I have learned to deal with challenges and feel happier and more in charge of my life and emotions. Thank you Erin, AJL read more

Location, Doctor, Office Staff: A+++ I see Dr. Griffiths for TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation). The office is right next to Stonestown Galleria and I can BART to Balboa Park then take the M or 28R, or I can take the M from downtown to get there. Trader Joe's is close by so I can do a little shopping after. Dr. Griffiths is very compassionate and knowledgeable, and helps me with my goals in a non-judgemental and supportive manner. The office staff are awesome: friendly, present, supportive, without being intrusive. I can color in coloring books while waiting. The atmosphere is healing and calm. read more

Made an appointment over the phone two weeks before hand for something pretty urgent. Showed up on the appointment day and was told that I don't have any appointment set up in the system. REALLY? I took a day off from work for nothing? Such a waste of time, I didn't even get to see the doctor. Guys, please ensure you are actually entering all of your appointments or informing your patients of any cancellations timely, if that was the case. Unprofessional and frustrating... read more

Best psychiatrist I've ever had and I've seen more than my share. She listens to what you say and really helped me get my life in track without over medicating. For over a year after moving my office away from the city I made the hour and a half trek to her office because she is so great. I recommend her to all my family and friends who are struggling with mental health issues. read more

Dr G has literally saved my life. I've been seeing her for 4 years and still travel from Northern California to see her.

Very very unimpressed with this clinic and the total lack of professionalism and care for patients. The in network insurance was suddenly withdrawn, the nurse practitioner then suddenly left for reasons beyond her control, phones are NEVER answered, answer phone was frequently too full you can't leave a message, urgent text messages re medication were not answered, turned up to office to get sample medication as advised and the office was closed at 4pm (during there open hours!!), no response from reception staff when informed them of this. Just appalling from any business, but from a psychiatrists practice where care of vulnerable patients should be paramount is just unbelievable. read more

I have not met Dr. Erin Griffith, so I can't comment about her professionalism. The reason for that is, because I never made it past her staff after 3 appointment mishaps. I was scheduled the first time, and when I got there, they said they changed my appointment. I was not notified. I gave them a second chance, they screwed up again. I was naive to think there was still hope for their staff but boy was I wrong. I took time off from work, made arrangements for my baby and came to my appt only to find out that the dr. was not even in that day. They had scheduled me for another day. I had this in my calendar for weeks. I called the office before coming to my apt. There's no way I will ever go back there again. Save yourself the trouble, I wish someone saved me from it. read more

I am fortunate to have found this wonderful doctor. Initially, I was concerned that Dr. Griffiths is a D.O., not an M.D., a concern that immediately evaporated upon interacting with this skilled, compassionate practitioner. I do not plan to be in therapy for the rest of my life. Dr. Griffiths is in sync with that goal. Our forty-five minute sessions have "aha!" moments since Dr. G really "gets" me and knows the questions to ask and the suggestions to make to enable me to grow. Each week, I leave the session with new insights and new behaviors to consider. As I move toward acceptance and serenity under the guidance of Dr. Griffiths, I know I am in excellent hands. Dr. Griffiths' office suite, shared with other practitioners, is well-located, right off 85, very accessible, with an elevator. The office staff is kind, helpful and well-organized. read more

I went to Dr. Griffith's practice specifically for TMS. The practice is affiliated with or an extension of Silicon Valley TMS run by Dr. Shakir. Dr. Griffiths is knowledgeable and personable. I had one consultation with her and then a couple of brief interactions with her when I went to the practice during a 17-course round of TMS. I even felt like I was starting to improve with TMS. BUT, just like B.D. writes in he review here: 0/5 stars for the overall staff of the practice. The office refused to let my psychiatrist speak with Dr. Griffiths. They would not return emails or phone calls until they knew my insurance would pay for 15 sessions of TMS. Then there was an administrative error relaying my psychological inventory scores to Dr. Griffiths. As a result, she did not have the most recent data (which showed definite improvement) and consequently the insurance company would not authorize more badly needed TMS sessions after the insurance company interviewed her about my case. I pointed out the data showing improvement from TMS in not only their own inventory scores, but also my psychiatrist's and my own assessment records. After initiating an "urgent appeal" with my insurance company about their decision, I discovered that the appeal was rejected because either Dr. Griffiths or her staff did not return the insurance company's voicemails to discuss the appeal! I am very sorry to give Dr. Griffiths such a low review because I think she is competent and caring. But I am very disappointed in my overall experience with the practice. The only reason I give them a 2- instead of 1-star rating is that they gave me 2 free TMS sessions after they realized some of their mistakes. But keep in mind that most psychiatrists familiar with TMS say that it takes 20-30 sessions to get a gauge of whether TMS works on a patient. read more

I have struggled with mental health disorders for the majority of my life. I have been to dozens of doctors, clinicians, and therapists. I've tried it all. So when TMS was suggested by my doctor, I wad understandably skeptical. But when I came to see Dr. Griffiths, my reticence was greatly diminished. Dr. Griffiths genuinely cares about her patients and that shines through in multiple ways. She goes out of her way to accommodate a wide range of patients and does so professionally and compassionately. This is not a given in most healthcare settings, especially in terms of mental health. Dr. Griffiths understands the fragility of her patients and treats people accordingly. But perhaps most importantly, she does so without condescending. This comes across in the exceptional staff, top to bottom. Thank you for improving my life, Dr. Griffiths. read more

Stay away from this Doctor if you care about your life and your health. Her incompetence was the direct cause of me going through an unnecessary nightmare of a full blown episode where I lost my job, social supports, put myself at risk, and more. I'm still suffering from it today. I've known this Doctor since 2014 and worked with her for about 3 years until October 2019. She knew me well and also knew my history. She saw me go through the pits of despair when I had a relapse in 2016, which she helped pull me out of. I worked relentlessly to get out of it. Last year, I started to show signs of going through another relapse, and she completely missed the mark. When I asked to discontinue care over email, which was obviously a loss of insight, instead of getting alarmed, she took it personally and didn't even bother to call. She bid me farewell and sent the termination paperwork. Extremely uncaring. She had approved me tapering off of the very medication which was giving me stability, knowing I have an incurable condition. She's also very unreliable, and in my years of working with her, she cancelled our meetings, sometimes at the last minute, at least 3 times. She's extremely irresponsible and negligent. If you suffer from a severe mental illness, please stay away. I deserved better than this. read more

What can I say. I like Clinical Neurosciences. The staff is excellent, and also human, which is hard to find in clinics. I've been to more than I can count. What does that say about me? I've got problems. I can only say that sometimes, given the population that she serves so well, there is a contagious amount of negativity in some of the patients in the lobby. Perhaps they are incurable but most certainly no amount of anything can fix that. It starts from within and stays well with continued maintenance. It ain't the doctors fault. She is here to help. I should know. I've been going 4 days a week for the past 3 years. I think the only improvement they need is larger spaces. I am a large person. Check yourself. It works!! read more

Before working with Dr. Griffiths I had to sign off that ALL appointments would be online which was what I was looking for. Before I confirmed the appointment I asked her assistant if the doctor was able to prescribe medications she replied "that is fine! no problem at all". I went ahead and paid the $500 fee upfront as requested. During the appointment Dr. Griffiths told me there were certain medications she could only prescribe by seeing me in person and could I come into San Francisco by early the next week as she was moving to Canada. That was impossible and if I had been informed never would have scheduled with her. (I later found out telemedicine doctors can prescribe controlled substances with a note from a previous doctor). So now I am out $500 and need to pay more to see someone else. In addition the appointment was no different than any other psychiatric appointment that cost at least half the amount and/or covered by insurance. She bills herself as holistic and alternative she offered nothing new to me. Very unprofessional and a total waste of money. Stay away! read more

If there were an Oscar for treating a patient with mental illness, Dr. Griffith would have one. It has taken me 1 1/2 years to write this review because the accolades just keep piling up. Her energy is incredibly soothing. Her method of therapy is unlike anything I ever experienced. I never had a therapist who would keep track and update me on the amount of time I was wasting as I tried to avoid a subject matter that was important to my recovery. It always worked before her. To be where I am right now is a true testament to what she has to offer as well as TMS. I do not even remember what sever depression feels like. It feels like I have a new brain. Dr. Griffith has patiently guided me through my trauma which is excessive, rape, 58 ECT treatments with in a 9 month period, my long term memory erased, suicide attempt, cognitive problems, emotionally void, learning a team of Doctors intentionally and illegally caused my brain damage... to name a few. I was on a roller coaster ride of horror for 44 years and I am now 46 and stable. I have learned invaluable new behaviors and life skills. Most important, I never thought my level of happiness was ever attainable, but it is. To those who suffer with depression I highly suggest TMS, you have nothing to loose and everything to gain. BTW, the staff ROCKS! read more
