Holiday Street Market - Beer Garden.

The Holiday Street Market is a winter street festival located in downtown Milton on Main St that…read moreruns from Commercial St to Brown St on December 2, 9 and 16, 2017 from 12 pm - 7 pm and admission is free. I went this past Saturday and I was a little confused in the beginning looking for the Milton Christmas Market and the lead picture in some articles were using pictures of German Christmas Markets which is really misleading, just to be clear it's a winter street festival that you would find in Toronto in the summer but it's in the winter and geared towards the Christmas holidays. The official name is the Holiday Street Market. The festival was pretty busy and there were lots of food trucks and places selling poutine because it was a poutine festival, artisan vendors, a beer tent and storefronts selling items. It wasn't anywhere near as big as they promoted it to be but essentially it's a winter street festival promoting businesses in the Milton area. Some of the food items we tried were: Mac and Cheese Bites from Sul-Irmaos Smokehouse ($5 tax included): Five pieces of deep fried mac and cheese covered in a sweet chili aioli sauce, it was pretty decent, nice light batter, great sauce but the mac and cheese could have used an extra filler like bacon or sausage. Deep Fried Oreos (4 pieces for $5 tax included): Don't recall the name of the vendor but man, these things were delicious, who knew something so simple could taste so good. Chimcurri beef taco from Uncorked on Wheels ($5 tax included): really good tender beef, accompanied by some coleslaw which gave it a nice texture. MapleLodge Farms: Were giving out free hotdogs as long as you made a donation to the Sick Kids Hospital. They also had a small beer garden and a place that sold mulled wine if that's something you are interested in and local musicians performing and an area where you could take pictures with Santa. Overall, if you could get past the misleading pictures and realize it's actually a holiday street market/festival and not some huge Christmas Market, it's not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon if you are in Milton or the surrounding area. There was some decent food that was reasonably priced, admission was free and it wasn't overly crowded. There definitely is some room for improvement to give the Holiday Street Market a more festive holiday feel, like more carollers, a massive Christmas tree, opening later into the night.

The token system was a complete failure and customers did not know how it worked and refused to use the system. Worst of all, we were never paid for our tokens by the market owners, despite several follow ups they simply kept our money. Scammers, do not become a vendor.

We got a campsite with some friends and pitched a tent. It was nice to have a fire at night. The campground has showers you have to pay for - bring extra change! I had never experienced a timed shower and had to beg folks walking by for change so I could finish washing my hair. We brought bikes so were were able to get around the island to and from the concert grounds easily. There is bike parking lot as well. Music wise it was amazing! So many different kinds of music and venues. The schedule goes all day and night. There were a bunch of classes and workshops you could take as well. We had fun walking around checking out the art, eating lots of snacks, enjoying the music and sunshine. Great recycling and compost setup. I would definitely return and recommend the festival to friends. We had a blast! It seems like the kind of place you get to do what makes you happy. Plenty of time to rest or nap, relaxed peaceful environment. There were lots of families and kids activities too.

We were…read moresurprised that over 90% of the attendees actually dressed up in pirate costumes - I guess there are lots of pirate enthusiasts out there. It was hard to tell who were the festival staff / volunteers / actors, and who were the guests or attendees, because everyone was decked out in full-out pirate outfits, from head to toe. It certainly added to the mood of the festival! From the various shows (sword-fighting pirates, fire and axe juggling, aerial acrobatics) and interactive activities that everyone could take part in (learn to duel with swords (pirate-style), learn to whip, axe throwing, spear throwing, archery, gemstone mining, pirates' pub sing-alongs, photo ops on a pirate ship, mermaid grotto, treasure hunt, etc.), to pirate-themed vendors, food, and actors, this was certainly a step above the typical summer festivals you see in the city. I loved that all the actors (including the food & drink vendors) stayed in character the whole time (as different characters in the pirates world). Each day was packed with scheduled entertainment all day long, and there were plenty of activities for all ages. Aye, aye, Captain!

My friend and I stopped by Terre Bleu to browse during our day trip to Elora. The store is pretty big where they have a variety of lavender items for sale. You are able to try the honeys and they even have lavender ice cream, macarons, and canned drinks available as well. In their bigger room they have many essential oils for sale as well as a cute lavender wall to take photos. The famous yellow door they had in their lavender fields is also displayed inside the shop as well. Overall, a great boutique store for all things lavender! A must visit if you go to Elora.

This is my second year doing the Ribfest via a YEE with a VIP Experience. Nothing says cool like a VIP pass to the grounds. Just walk pass all the people in line to get in. Just walk pass all the lines for food. Sit in a covered and less crazy VIP lounge. Snobbiness to the Maximus! The only thing that the VIP thingy doesn't give you is the run down of the Rib-bers. That's your own adventure - with your RED Foam Cowboy hat in hand! I get to run around from BBQ to BBQ and look at hardworking fares of the brotherhood/sisterhood of the travelling grill. It doesn't matter where they come from. They stay in character the whole time. Good Ole Peeps from the South! YAH-Hoo! Now which one to go...I've been to a couple of the Rib-bers in the past. I just need to pick one out. Hmmm...find the one with the longest line and then pull a Disney move. Wave the fast-pass VIP thing and go place your order. Oh yeah - that's what I did. :D Sat down with a group of Elites. Enjoyed our treat, told stories of our adventures, met new online friend IRL. As the day ended, I got to watch the Stiletto Club trying hard not to get stuck in the grass. The Flip Floppers trying to not get debris stuck on their feet, and the Cowgirls (who thinks that clothing is optional at times) doing their strut. A great time was had by all. Though Port Credit is quite far away from Richmond Hill, it was worth it. Come on...ribs, beans, slaw, corn bread, and BEERz! Now you understand why we call it a PIG OUT! CHEERS!!!
