After a bad experience I developed irrational fear for the dentist. I was referred to Dr Yokota after a dental emergency. My fear & anxiety were at an all time high, walking in today. Dr Yokota, was amazing! I'm terrified of the numbing needles, in my 50+years I've never not struggled thru this but not today. I was so anxious waiting for the pain. The whole procedure could not have gone better yet tonight as the Novocain wears off, it's the pain in my neck & shoulders from being so tense that is bothering me! I'm not sure I've ever felt more cared for even in a general cleaning. I will not hesitate to see Dr Yokota again for future needs. If you are a referral or seeing Dr Yokota for the first time you are in good hands! If you have seen Dr Yokota previously then I'm sure you already know this! read more

I have had two root canals done by Mr. Yokota. I had one yesterday after requestiong the appointment only the day before, which was great because I was in pain. He did the entire procedure in an hour. He warned me there might be pain afterwards, but I only took 3 ibuprofen at his office and 2 before bed, and maybe I'm just lucky but I have close to zero pain today. He is very professional, has a good bedside manner, and his staff is friendly and competent. I hope I never need another root canal, but I will go to Dr. Yokota if I do! read more

He came highly recommended by my family dentist in the Rose Garden area of San Jose, he also was highly recommended by my oral surgeon in Los Gatos. The staff is friendly and professional and Dr. Yokota is a really good doctor. There were x-rays and tests done on the tooth that was in question. After all was said and done my tooth was healthy and I was sent back to my oral surgeon in Los Gatos. The doctor's assistant hurt my undertongue tissue while taking X-ray. She was pushing the stick camera strongly towards my under tongue tissue all of a sudden without going through with me what she's going to do, when I told her that's painful, she showed no understanding by a "yes, so what?" face. I'm glad I made a decision walking out of the office, because when I was trying to tell the doctor what his assistant did to me, he didn't even bother to check my tongue or ask what's happened, but only showed a ignoring attitude answering :"ok, I'm sorry." Either this assistant was not well-trained nor she did not want to do her job well, I would not trust a dentist who doesn't manage well his staff. I would not suggest anyone coming here as there's a chance to be badly taken care of. read more

Best in class. Dr. Yokota and his assistant have worked on two root canals for me, one more involved than the other. In both cases, he operated efficiently, in shortest amount of time, I believe. He must have done this procedure some thousands of time. He explained ahead what he would do, took image after operation to confirm and gave me post-op care procedure. I've had less pleasant experience with other endo doctors, but my experience with this service is best in class. With the two procedures I went through, I had to take only a couple pills of pain killer, but no complication. I just had to write a review for Dr. Yokota about the root canal I've been dreading for about 2 years. I had a filling that was dangerously close to a nerve, and it was fine until 2 days ago, when it began to hurt like crazy. I was referred to Dr. Yokota by Dr. Linh Bauer. Dr. Yokota's office saw me the same day I called. The whole procedure was quite a pleasant surprise (or as pleasant as a root canal can be!). Dr. Yokota explained everything to me, and once he starting working he kept checking to make sure I was ok. It really wasn't any worse than getting a filling. I can't recommend him highly enough. I briefly saw this Endodontist today due to a moving Crown. I have my "work" appointment w/ him tomorrow morning and will recap. From first impressions, he and his staff seem efficient and capable. Update: I freakishly have four roots instead of three. Something I wish the dentist that had initially done the root canal (10 yrs ago) had caught and FILLED. Dr. Yokota saw that there was a 4th un plugged one that had contaminated over the years. I'm all patched up. He's good and fast, which is okay b/c he's good. I was referred to Dr. Yokota by my primary dentist Dr. Karen Ho. I saw him about two-three years ago for a root canal that I needed to get done, and he was really great. He helped distract me when it was time to get the numbing shot so I wasn't anticipating the pain and then didn't notice it very much. He has a nice gentle approach and likes to make sure you are ok during the entire process. The root canal procedure was very fast and painless and the recovery time was similarly painless and fast. I will definitely return to him for any future root canals that I need to do. Also, his office staff and dental assistants are extremely cordial and efficient, I was very happy with the entire customer service I received. Most recently, I had some very acute dental pain that required emergency calls into Dr. Ho and Dr. Yokota over President's Day weekend, and both doctor's responded to my page within an hour of sending it out - and were so nice and sympathetic to my situation. I had an abscessed tooth crisis come to me out of nowhere, and was put onto antibiotics immediately. I was also given some pain relief meds that made everything bearable until I could be seen when everyone returned to the office the following weekday. The procedure of cleaning out the infected area as well as fixing the issue was done with great professionalism and the kindest of sympathies to my anxiety and fear about everything. I was quite stressed out during the entire procedure because I have an acute paranoia of all things dental, but Dr.Yokota was extremely kind and helpful in calming me down and maintaining focus on the task at hand. The dental assistant was also helpful in having me take deep breaths and relax. I followed the instructions given to me for the after care of the minor surgery I received from Dr.Yokota and within 24hrs was feeling great and had no pain whatsoever. In the future I will get some relaxant in my system before getting anything done, but without it they were very nice to me in helping me manage my stress instead of reacting to it or making me feel like I was a big problem. Dr Yokota is an absolute rawkin Endo!! I really do not like dental work in general and this one was a doozie of a procedure!! He got me all taken care of though and was excellent about telling me what he was *going* to do to help alleviate any anxieties I had in the moment (there were a lot). I've heard lots of stories about how root canals are super painful and a long process, so I was super dreading my evaluation appointment. Dr Yokota and his staff were top notch in reassuring me and calming my nerves. He explained the entire process step by step and visually showed me what he was going to do. The procedure was quick and, other than the local anesthesia shot, painless! It's been 3 days and aside from a bit of soreness, I am still pain -free and have not needed to take an pain medication. Dr. Yokota saved my life!!! I started to have tooth pain on an old crown that started out pretty painfully but the pain would subside and become manageable. Then the pain came back with a vengeance one weekend and hit me like no other pain I had ever experienced. I had the worst weekend and was so grateful when my dentist referred me to Dr. Yokota and they were able to fit me in first thing Monday morning. Well! I just had a root canal done with a new doctor who was professional, competent, calm and caring without feeling like I was in an assembly line. Problem is, that I had already had a root canal done by Dr. Yokota on this same tooth. This tooth had started becoming painful, odd, since there should be no nerve in it but lo and behold, it did! This is the 2nd tooth, no I mean the 3rd tooth that had to have a 2 root canals because 'Someone' didn't do the job right the FIRST time. I forgot about the 3rd tooth because he cracked it while performing the SECOND root canal and that tooth had to be extracted. Again, be warned. You might be just thrilled with the results right now, but I hope that you don't have problems down the road. read more

I was recommended to Dr. Yokota by my dentist (Dr. Lee) to have a root canal done on a molar. She had 2 done by him. I had never had a root canal before & thought the worst, but Dr. Yokota was great. He explained the whole procedure to me & took his time to make sure I knew what was going to happen during & after the whole thing. This guy was awesome! I was in & out of there in about an hour. I did have some pain afterwards but it lasted about 24 hours & he gave me some pain meds which helped a lot. I was referred to Dr Yokota for a root canal after a routine visit to my dentist. He and his staff examined my tooth, took a couple of X-rays and then, some what to my surprise, he showed me the X-Ray and explained that the root canal is not needed and that my dentist was a bit too cautious. He explained that the cavity is very small and not near the root. I was happy and thankful for his careful examination and not performing an un-needed procedure. read more

I really trust her very much and when i was treated by Dr. Yokota and he made me feel very comfortable. he explained exactly what he was doing. I was in great pain and had a visit to Dr. Yokota yesterday 1/21/2015, and was scheduled for a root canal this morning at 9:30am today 1/22/2015. First off, Dr. Yokota's office is very clean and organize. I've encountered with his staff Tracy and Dawn who were very nice, friendly, and helpful. Dr. Yokota took his time to explain to me the procedures; he carefully examined my teeth, and gave me very clear explanation of what need to be done. He answer my questions in a very gentle and patience way. He took time to consult with my other dentist, and came up with a game plan that works best for me. After all that, Dr. Yokota told me to go for other option that may work best for me instead of a root canal. He even instructed his staff to help set up other dental appointment for me. Dr. Yokota is a very well respected dentist, who are very knowledgeable, kind hearted, gentle, and will take his time to do the best for you. I have nothing to compare Dr. Yokota with when it comes to an Endo but I was impressed with how my visit went. First off I have a complicated mouth, I am a recovered anorexic/bulimic and that will reek havoc on your teeth, gums and overall mouth health. I also haven't had dental insurance since high school. 11 years or so...Eek! I had a dental appointment for this Monday coming up with Robert Gong-Guy, he is across the street from Eric Yokota, well yesterday morning I had EXTREME mouth pain, throbbing in my head. So, my husband called Dr. Gong Guys office, I would of called but I was screaming my head off in pain and pounding my fist on the floor as I laid fetal on the carpet. It was pretty bad, and I am really good with pain, I mean really good. So, long story short Dr. Gong-guys staff got me in that day, I went in and had a few X-rays taken, turns out that I had a really, really bad decay in my upper second molar, to the point where my dentist said he wasn't sure if it would be salvageable but because I am only 29 that it would be a shame to loose my tooth. His staff called Dr. Yokota and he was able to see me right away, so the receptionist walked me over and I was seen right away. In the office I texted my friend who is a great dentist and she is on the board of a dentistry association (not sure the exact name), I texted her my X-ray and Dr. Yokotas's name, fist she said "holly cow hope they don't have to remove your tooth." then she said that I could trust this guy to take care of my mouth. so I went ahead and said yes to a root canal. I was surprised at how fast and painless the whole process was. The pain is completely gone (I don't know if it's real pain, I think its a phantom pain in your head) and in a few hours I was eating a normal diner, a big salmon salad, I just held off on the nuts. Anyway, my only complaint is my jaw discomfort but that's not even the doctors fault! My jaw was open for 30-45 min, wide open, DUH My jaw hurts, and it's not even a pain, it's more of less a discomfort, like I'm well aware that I have a jaw. I do not fear my return appointment on Tuesday. Oh and the staff was nice and not up tight, I could joke with them and they would laugh and joke back, I hate when I make a smart-ass remark to "break the ice" and I get a vacant stare back... not here, they were warm, friendly and professional. I had my 2nd root canal with DR. Yokota this week. The first was over 4 years ago and I was super nervous at the time. He makes you feel very calm, is very efficient and quick at what he does, and I felt no pain post procedure. I would almost go as far as to say he makes it feel less painful then a typical filling. The crown process was definitely longer and more painful. The staff are very friendly and were able to fit me in on short notice due to the pain I was experiencing. While going to the Endodontist isn't exactly a fun experience, Dr. Eric Yokota and his expert nurse Dawn and office manager Tracey are simply the best you can get. Like most reviews here, my root canal was taken care of with such professionalism and high degree of caring. While this office does not use nitrous oxide (it causes birth defects, apparently, in staff!) Dr. Yokota's techniques are so precise and careful that I didn't need it. Really. No kidding. But here's the real good part: despite getting a root canal, I healed and was in no real pain just a day after it was completed. Eric found a "hidden root" from a previous root canal done in Austin that, yep, got infected. He found it with X-rays and a microscope, and his procedure used a microscope to increase precision. I am grateful for such high standards of care. Eric and Dawn saved my tooth. Highly recommended. read more

I saw Dr Yokota for what was initially diagnosed as a root canal gone bad. My regular dentist was out of state for a family trip, and the dentist I saw on an emergency basis recommended Dr Yokota. The appointment making process was smooth and professional. The front office staff were kind, friendly, and efficient. My jaw got worse before my appointment, and they were able to fit me in a little sooner - holiday weekend, so I still ended up in the emergency room, but that's not their fault. During the initial consultation, Dr Yokota was very professional, and efficient. He even reassured me that root canals go bad very frequently, and that the fact that mine had failed didn't mean my dentist had been lax. Unfortunately, the first available appointment was more than a week away, so I had to suffer longer than I would have preferred. When I came in for the procedure, he diagnosed a different problem - a broken root, which means I'll lose the tooth. That news made me cry, but the doctor ignored my tears and just continued to explain the situation. His professionalism actually helped me get out of there, so I gave him an extra star for that. I'm allergic to multiple drugs, including several classes of antibiotics and painkillers. Dr Yokota impressed me with his knowledge of antibiotics, which are almost always an issue for me. My only quibble is about painkillers - because of my allergies, choices are limited, and I could have done without the repeated discussions about the difficulties that causes; I'm very familiar, because these aren't new allergies. Then again, he doesn't know me, and doesn't know that I know. Also, again because he doesn't know me, he under-prescribed painkillers, considering the pain of the infected jaw. I understand it, and really don't blame him, but it has been a problem, because ... this hurts. Generally, though, high marks for the office, and the doctor. If I need other endodontic treatment, he'll be my first call, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to a friend. read more

My recent experience was not as positive and smooth as many reviewers here. I came in about a week ago for a root canal. The operation itself went fine - it took about an hour and a half due to the complication of my tooth, according to the dentist. Toward the end, he casually mentioned that there might be some bleeding, due to a "nick" in my tongue, which I assume to be accidental. However, when I got home and the anesthetics wore off, I discovered that in addition to the bleeding of the tongue, the inside of my lip near the tooth was badly bruised. It has been very sore since then and I have had difficulty eating and even drinking hot beverages, not because of the tooth, but because of the bruised lip. I don't exactly know how this happened, but my guess is that they put a protective cover over my mouth, which has hard edges resting on my lower lip. They pressed down on these edges quite hard for most of the operation, which created a large blister. What bothered me as well was the attitude of the staff. I was told that a 6-month follow up is included in the service, but I need to put it on my calendar to call to make an appointment then. I asked if the office would call patients to remind and was told curtly that no, they didn't schedule that far in advance. This seems like a less-than-professional practice: if a follow-up is either necessary or advisory, the service provider should send a reminder of some sort, rather than just relying on each patient to remember. I don't normally complain about services, but I do hope that Dr. Yokota or his staff read this and be a bit more sensitive to patients in the future. read more

i went in fearing an ordeal. the experience was as far as possible from what i'd feared. dr. yakota is clearly a master of his craft. first, he explained what he was going to do, educating me without talking down to me. then, he did the job quickly and in a manner that calmed my nerves (there's nothing he can do about the sound of the drill in your mouth though). he had warned me about possible soreness after the local anesthetic wore off but i was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was. thanks, dr. yakota! read more

Dr. Yokota saved my tooth! I scheduled an emergency visit with him and his office was able to slot me in the same day for an evaulation. I had a sudden toothache that started about 1 week ago and it was due to trauma caused by bitting on something hard 2 months ago. After the evaluation, Dr. Yokota clearly stated my options and that he suspects the tooth is cracked but he can't tell if its salvageable until he opens it up (beginning of the root canal procedure). After he opens it up, he can see if its cracked all the way to the roots (which is unsalvageable) or whether the root canal can be completed. He said that most likely 75% chance I'll have to extract the tooth and only 25% I can save it through a root canal. He does not do the extraction and I'll need to go to an oral surgeon. I had 1 day to decide because I was going on an international trip that weekend. I came back in the next day and we started the procedure. Dr. Yokota and dental assistant were great! I was very anxious about the whole procedure because I was 21 weeks pregnant at the time and I hate dental work because of the pain. The most uncomfortable part was getting the anesthesia. They first put a cotton swab with numbing agent and then give the shot. I could barely feel the shot going in. When they started the work, I still had a bit of sensation and Dr. Yokota quickly gave me another dose. He constantly checked on me to see if I was ok with pain and I didn't feel any pain after that. Luckily after he opened up the tooth, the crack wasn't too deep and I was able to save the tooth. He finished the whole root canal in about 30 min! Record timing! Super fast yet cautious. It was A LOT better than what I expected and the most pleasant dental experience I've had! I would say its onpar with a teeth cleaning. After the procedure I was afraid of pain after the anesthesia wore off. Since I was pregnant, I was ok to take Tynenol. However, I wanted to avoid taking even Tynenol if I could. Surprisingly I didn't feel any pain after anesthesia wore off! I was pleasantly surprised. Infact, my toothache completely went away. The tooth is still a bit sore due to the root canal but that was expected. It will heal in 7 days or so. All in all - don't be afraid or anxious about a root canal. Going with Dr. Yokota is probably one of the best choices I made! read more

Very similar story as the positive reviews below. Dr. Yokota was highly recommended by my dentist. Scheduling was a breeze through the very competent (and nice) front office. Once I was in the chair, Dr. Yokota was pleasant, but business like. He took time out to explain the whole procedure. I really like this in a health care provider. The initial numbing of the gum was leisurely. After some time, he then injected the local anesthesia. Again, there was no rush as he waited for the effects to take hold. Once he was satisfied that I felt nothing, BAM!!! It was exactly like someone else described: a flurry of activity from a well oiled machine. WOW. And in between all the activity, Dr. Yokota explained what he was doing. This was my first root canal and I felt no pain other than the injection. I felt that I was in the hands of a real pro. Dr. Yokota is the BEST endontist you can see! In 1996, I had my one and only other root canal. Everyone else told me horror stories about root canals. I couldn't believe how painless and easy it was in Dr. Yokota's chair! Over the years, members of my family and friends have all gone to him for one or more root canals - and all were so happy. In 2012, I returned when my AWFUL dental office (Northern Dental) told me they only had an onsite endontist every other week, and I would have to wait a week IN PAIN for him. I asked the cost. Then I called Dr. Yokota's office and asked the price. It was only a couple of hundred more than my share (with insurance at Northern Dental). I was in Dr. Yokota's office the next morning - and an hour later - I was on my way to work PAIN FREE and happy!
