He showed up and replaced one valve and added cement to pipe to stop leak. We weren't around to watch his work or to lead him by the hand. Leak continued so we called him back. Explained to do whatever he needed to do to fix the problem - he became defensive and said that the valve he fixed wasn't leaking. We explained that we understood that, but hired him to stop the leak completely, not just a valve. He replaced a 2nd valve and said a 3rd could be replaced, but he didn't do it. Again we couldnt be around to watch him or check on his progress. My husband told him to return asap to replace 3rd valve (that he should have gone ahead and replaced) said he would. Hasn't returned and not answering our calls. Almost $500 and still have the same problem. It's like he's guessing at what the problem might be.

First quote was $1091, then when I called back to place my order and schedule delivery for Saturday. April 19, the second quote was almost $1600, including delivery. Hmmm, ok, should've mentioned a $500 delivery fee with the first quote. I called Saturday, April 19, to ask about a delivery time and was told they can't provide one, should be here sometime between 5:30 am-2:00 pm. Then they said they don't see me on the schedule at all and needed to call me back. 30 min later, Angel left a VM saying there must've been some kind of miscommunication between Manuel and me about the delivery date, that the delivery is scheduled for next Saturday. I called to talk to Angel again and was told I must've ordered delivery for the wrong weekend. Then he tried to blame the sod company for messing up the delivery date. When I found out they go through A G Sod, I called them directly and learned that Kern Turf failed to even place the order and blamed me for the "confusion." They confirmed no order was placed for me by Kern Turf and I was not on the schedule for delivery, this weekend or next weekend. When I realized I could order directly through A G Sod, who also confirmed the first/lower quote I received from Kern Turf was correct and that it included delivery to my house, I ordered directly through them for the same price. Why the second guy jacked the price up another $500 is still a question no one seems to be able to answer. Whole lot of fishiness going on here. So, I do not recommend Kern Turf Supply unless they fire the guys making excuses and blaming others for their mistake. An honest mistake is understandable but not the lying and blaming. If you need sod, skip the middle man. It's the same cost and one less person to mess it up.

We got 4 other quotes for the yard before we finally called Mark. He was like a breath of fresh air! He was able to create our dream yard well within our budget. The other people we talked too either had prices twice our budget (and we didn't really want anything crazy) or one quoted prices so low, we were worried about the quality and whether he was really quoting us for everything. Marks price point was perfect for us. And his work was better than we could have hoped. He has been doing this for a long time and had fantastic ideas that made our yard even better. We wanted 6 fruit trees and he had great suggestions for more trees and shrubs to complete our yard since we really had no idea what else to plant. We asked for a fire pit area as well and wanted turf along our side yard so we could turn it into a play yard for our kids. The fountain with the gorgeous flower bed was all his idea. The most valuable part of using Mark though is that he is very accommodating. The yard was done very quickly, and the guys he employed to do the cement work, turf and our sliding gate, were also reasonably priced and provided the highest quality work. At one point we realized our cement boarder was further from the wall then we wanted, we told him, and he promptly fixed it. Also a few patches of grass died and he quickly fixed those as well. He added gorgeous lights to illuminate the trees. He also thinks ahead, so he added a special irrigation system to our trees so the roots will not grow up and ruin the cement boarder. On top of all this, he is easy to reach, extremely friendly and dedicated to making you happy. Make no mistake about it, his prices may seem too good to be true but he work is the best in town!
