The classes are short and very intense. ErgoFit a great way to get a full body workout for those of us who are way too busy!

I would likely return with a group again but it's quite pricey so a membership isn't in my current budget when I would still have to supplement this workout with others. I can say that 24 hours later I'm sore in places I forgot existed

After my first class, I wasn't sold on Pure Barre, but…read morewas determined to make the most of my introductory unlimited month for $100.00, because once I set a goal, I'm determined to see it through. My dislike wasn't just because of the awkwardness everyone experiences during the first class (though admittedly, I felt like I sucked at everything at first, heh). It was because I considered the prices for regular classes to be pretty steep for a class that doesn't even last an hour. Not to mention the Pure Barre branded stuff everywhere (which of course is typical of any gym franchise), the cheesy pop music and the fact that the stretching didn't seem to be enough (you can stretch on your own, obviously). I thought it was really just a glorified exercise class that you can get anywhere and didn't really see what the fuss was. And now after 10 classes, I'm hooked on the burn. They say that it takes about 3 classes to get the precision of the moves down (think tiny, intense movements) and that's about right. Now, I find myself doing these exercises just about anywhere. It's strangely addictive to clench your muscles like this. It's a fast, intense workout. Time may seem to stand still as your muscles are shaking, yet it goes by so rapidly that the class is over in the blink of an eye. You may feel that it's so fast that surely this isn't enough of a workout and what the hell did you just spend 25 bucks a class for? But it is. It's a great way to tone that body up (though you'd definitely want to supplement the workout with cardiovascular exercises to keep yourself in tip top shape). People liken it to a combination of yoga, pilates and ballet. I actually don't really see anything too much in common with yoga. Ballet, absolutely, for you're standing at a barre doing pliés which totally kill your thighs. I've never taken pilates before, so I can't remark on that. The teachers are great overall, and of course you will like some more than others. I tend to prefer the teachers that give you some kind of countdown and verbal encouragement throughout. Once the teacher becomes silent, people are more apt to rest, which you don't want to do b/c working the muscles to fatigue is kind of the point (and many will tell you this). Other good stuff: the studio is spotless, fans are plentiful, and the staff is nice. FYI, the price goes down if you buy 5, 10, and 20 sessions at a time. I just bought my next 10 classes. This is a great supplement to yoga and cardio workouts. I yearn for a gym in this city that offers both good classes and equipment, but until there is, I'll be working out at my bare bones gym, Pure Barre and various yoga studios When you compare Pure Barre to yoga, the price is kind of astronomical. (At Life yoga, 90 minute classes as low as 8-10 dollars a pop) but they do have promotional specials and in March, if you take 20 classes you are eligible for a month of unlimited at 100.00, which is pretty sweet.

I went to check out (I did the Big Easy on ramp and have also checked out Crossfit NOLA)…read more This one was recommended by a friend who goes every morning with her husband at 5am, she loves it. it sounds like they do most of their classes outdoor on the turf but they also have an indoor area to workout as well and do classes with a separate area for rowing. They have a very advanced online/phone app that allows you to keep track of your workout, sign up for classes, see what the workout of the day is. Best of the 3 cross fits in the city. They don't require an on-ramp which is good and bad. On ramp is kind of boring and anti-climactic but some could argue necessary. I did on ramp at big easy because it was cheaper than cross fit nola and I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with it. I learned a lot about cross fit, positioning, moves, etc but wish it was just 2 or 3 classes instead. I also realized that maybe cross fit wasn't for me. The owner of this gym is very informative and helpful and obviously seems to care about the people who join (and don't join). I would recommend this place to anyone. For the first 100 people it's only $99 a month for unlimited classes. Unlike the other places, it's 45 minutes per class vs 1 hour, which isn't necessarily a bad thing and again you get unlimited classes. they have also started an endurance class mondays and wenesdays (thinking long distance running and rowing). not sure cross fit is for me (not really into the whole weightlifting tons of weight thing) but if i do decide to do it in the future will probably join here. he also has an option of 10 classes for $80. also a phenomenal deal considering other cross fits are about 20 per class.

Here at Supra the Coaches are great and encouraging, however behind the scenes the owner cuts expenses and fails to provide needed equipment at the request of his members. He also didn't include the CrossFit open into the schedule despite interest from members. Fortunately the Coaches came through and made it happen for their people. The normal warmth of the community that includes the interaction between management and members, after hours functions like BBQ's is sadly missing from this box. There are any number of better CrossFit gyms in the area like CrossFit Big Easy, CrossFit NOLA or CrossFit Crescent City Gretna.

JCC Aqua Fit program has been declining for months. Suggestions by members to increase classes,…read moreupgrade equipment and replace instructors are ignored. Since the hiring of a new CEO a couple of months ago, several aqua fit classes have been canceled so the pool can be used for swim lessons for the child care center and summer camps. This has especially impacted the seniors who joined the JCC specifically for the low impact benefits of water aerobics. Since summer camps, swim lessons and pool parties generate significant income, It seems that the financial bottom line is more important than addressing membership in the "community center." Too bad, the aqua fit program affects at least 50 members who are the active adults who use the facility daily. Do not join for the aqua program right now. Hopefully we will be heard in the future and classes will be restored.

Re: COVID-19 operations and safety practices…read more I gotta slow clap for y'all because I am loving the new implementation of the appointments online and how serious the JCC is taking COVID-19. Members of JCC Uptown are able to book appointments up to three days in advance for one hour block sessions. Everyone has to wear a mask upon entry and get your temperature checked. Per their constant email communications all members must arrive ready to workout (lockers are only available for bathrooms so no showers or storage purposes) and bring in your own towel and water bottle. They allow no more than 7 people at a time in the cardio room and around 8/9 in the weights room. Within the cardio room every other machine is shut down to practice social distancing. You'll also find plenty of marked disinfected and used cleaning sprays so you can wipe your machine before and after. Their team also cleans the machines CONSTANTLY. Like I seriously would get off the cardio machine wipe it down, just to then see them wipe it down again themselves. I feel safe coming here and appreciate there isn't a crazy occupancy capacity happening right now. TAKE MY MONIES. *Just know you will have to sign a waiver the first time you initially go during COVID-19, because liability and lawsuits ya know...

I tried this gym out when looking for a place to join. They got back to me promptly and offered to let me try out one of their classes that I was interested in. 6am spinning isn't for everyone but I love it! The instructor was very helpful and lead the small class through a really well rounded workout. I really enjoyed it and I liked that the class wasn't packed. The gym never seems to be packed either which is good because it really is only one room. They have a lot of equipment and two class rooms but thats it. There isn't a locker room just a large bathroom and a second one with a small shower. It's on the second floor above CC's so street parking can be an issue. Overall I thought this place was great but I was looking for a bit more. Had the monthly fee been cheaper I would have considered joining just for the spin classes... but its quite expensive and I just didn't think that it was the best fit for me. Good gym if you just need a place to work out and go and don't mend spending some money doing that.
