I'm moving to a rented townhouse in Pennsylvania where the complex requires renter's insurance. I have no problem at all with that requirement. I carry renter's insurance even where it is not required. It's just a good idea. The complex claims you can use any insurance carrier, so I went ahead and bought and paid for a policy using my current insurance company, meeting or exceeding (so I thought) the requirements of the complex as they had been communicated to me. Yesterday, I received an automated email from erenterplan saying my policy was rejected because the interested party was not some PO Box in Texas that I had never seen before. As instructed by the complex, I put the leasing company as an interested party. Apparently this was wrong. They also claim the insured property address is wrong. I will be renting a townhouse, and as far as I know, the street address fully and completely describes the property to be insured. The website given to correct these issues pushes HARD for you to buy a policy from eRenterPlan. The options to use your own insurance policy are well hidden, but can still be found. Additionally, I have been getting daily advertising emails from eRenterPlan ever since I signed the lease. I have been both a renter and a homeowner and have had insurance policies covering everywhere I've lived. I have never heard of eRenterPlan. It does not appear to be a division of or even backed by any of the major insurance companies you've heard of like Liberty, Erie, GEICO, State Farm, et cetera. So, no thank you, I'm not going to buy a policy from some fly-by-night insurance company for which my complex is going to get some kickback. What if, God forbid, I have to file a claim on my policy? I'm going to put my own policy in place, thank you very much. This whole company seems very scammy in nature and, surprising absolutely no one, I discovered they have an abysmal rating here on Yelp. I don't like that the insurance verification process for my complex is run through eRenterPlan. That seems to be a very BIG conflict of interest in my book. ERenterPlan and my complex ought to be ashamed of themselves here. It seriously appears as if they ran my declarations page through some OCR scanner and a poorly trained AI/ML model and no human being ever actually saw it. I don't need to buy a policy from eRenterPlan to know that I never want to. The "additional insured/additional interested party" requirement is also fishy. The landlord/property owner ought to be covered under their own master landlord's policy for the entire complex - not under the hundreds of policies of individual tenants! My complex's ability/requirement to be able to make a claim against MY renter's insurance policy REALLY rubs me the wrong way. read more

As a renter, I'm required to carry coverage through NOW, yet when I needed to file what I believed to be a straightforward claim, I was met with delays, pushback, and poor communication. When the storm hit my home and my refrigerator went out, I expected help in days, not weeks of fighting just to be taken seriously. I gave up, which is what you expected. I have not lived in the apartment tied to this company since roughly December 2023. I saw my card has still been getting charged although I have attempted multiple times to have the charges stopped. I attempted calling the number as stated on the website, but it either hangs up after I click to cancel the charges, or it says they're closed and to call back later. I shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops not only to have my card stopped being charged, but also to get a refund. This is unacceptable to be getting charged over $90 every few months for a service I'm not receiving. erenterplan.com, have fraudulently and without authorization charged my credit card three separate times -- on 5/9/2023, 4/25/2024, and 4/25/2025 -- each for $248, totaling $744. I purchased a renter's insurance policy from them in 2018, which I formally canceled on 2/13/2019. I have written confirmation of the cancellation. At no point did I renew, reactivate, or authorize any future charges. To make matters worse, the credit card I originally used expired long ago, and I never provided updated payment information. Yet, they somehow accessed my new card without my permission, raising serious concerns about how they are storing, sharing, or misusing customer financial information. This company's actions amount to theft -- unauthorized access, fraudulent charges, and abuse of sensitive financial data. Their practices are deceptive, unethical, and possibly illegal. I contacted erenter in December 2023 when I chose to rent an apartment in San Diego and the apartment community recommended them for my insurance needs. I'd always used Allstate before, but having it combined with the apartment all in one bundle, made it easy to sign up. I let them know the dates of my complete lease so they would cover me fully. They assured me it was not a problem. Fast-forward to me being in the apartment 13 months and finding out they canceled the policy a month earlier than my lease end date , and didn't even start the policy until the month after I moved in. They charged me that full amount of 13 months but only covered me for 10 months. Then they started sending me notices to let me know I was not covered for the remainder of my lease and I should sign up again. If I responded to the notices, I was told the mailbox was not monitored. Under NO circumstances should you do business with this firm. read more

Lisa was an absolute HEADACHE to get a hold of. Besides being completely unaware of being my adjuster for my case, she did not know ANY policy related information. She was very condescending & repeatedly kept saying "let me make it clear" before every statement which was so frustrating. She said she would look into the case further and would call be back the next day. Next day comes, NOTHING - no call back, no email, no type of communication like she said she would. So I decided to reach out again via phone because the website kept saying I was unable to log in with my email and policy number at that. I spoke with supervisor Steve who ended up being just as bad - monotoned and kept saying "you are not covered" with no knowledge or explanation of why I wasn't even when I asked MULTIPLE times. I was passed around to THREE different reps & it took 3 days for my so called "adjuster" to contact me back without even being useful!! The case still has NOT been resolved or documents that I've requested still have not been sent to me - it's been almost over a week!! I was being charged 15 days in advance of my effective coverage date (27th of the month)...My card could not be charged on the exact date (12th) but instead on the 13th. My current insurance is with a major insurance company, and the apartment management company is listed on the policy as an additional interest. This company has some of the worst customer service that I've encountered. I've worked in the real estate industry & for years have recommended eRenterplan.com to people that needed renters insurance ASAP. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THEM AGAIN. Here's the situation, I was moving into a new apartment & thought I would sign up with erenter, to make things easy. When selecting my policy, they offered additional coverage for "pet damage", for an additional monthly fee. The coverage covered if your pet damages the carpet, walls, & a few other scenarios, up to $500. I decided that, since I had a young puppy, this would be ideal, especially since my deductible was $500, I could use the pet damage coverage to take care of anything under $500, what I would have needed to pay if I didn't elect for the additional pet damage coverage. I transferred into a different apartment, in the same building, when my lease was up & did have some damages to my carpet from my puppy, so I called Erenter. I was transferred to 4 different people who said "they could not access my coverage or policy and could not answer any questions regarding specifics". When I finally got an answer (nearly 45 minutes after being on the phone), I was told that they would need to file a claim, which could go against my future rates, during underwriting, & that I would have to pay my $500 deductible, even though I paid extra towards my policy, each month, to avoid this. When I mentioned that the website indicated that electing for the additional pet damage coverage, at an additional cost, it gave the impression that the pet damage coverage would not require me to pay the deductible. I then mentioned that I would have not purchased $500 worth of pet damage coverage, for an additional cost each month, if I still had to pay a $500 deductible in order to use it. The representative (#4) said she understood & knew that the website and sign up process showed the information in a way that was misleading & that it was clarified in the policy (that is mailed 10 days later) and is so many pages, most people wouldn't ready all the way through it. Basically, & have a $500 deductible for claims, I was tricked into paying more each month for $500 worth of coverage for my pet, and given the impression that, if I needed to use it, it wouldn't require my deductible to be paid, that is not the case. So I called them again, and this time the lady told me that unfortunately I have already been charged and they would refund that amount to my account directly in 7-10 business days. After I did that, they started sending me numerous messages notifying me that they were about to cancel my policy (the one they had cancelled months ago). They then "cancelled" my policy a second time, and sent a notice of cancellation to my landlord, making my landlord think I was no longer carrying renter's insurance required by my lease. I can't believe I wasted years with this company. The first claim I have ever submitted was due to a flood from a tenants toilet above me. The flood engulfed my clothes, bed and other items. The claim adjuster called me and said they have a Company that will try to salvage the items and return them to me.WTF! I explained the flood included the tenants feces, and the adjusters response was " anytime we wash, feces comes off our bodies" WTF! I said, yeah our bodies, not someone else's. On November 15th we called trying to figure out how we could cancel before our renewal date. They said it was too early and they couldn't cancel the policy. They proceeded to charge us 15 days before the policy renewed and are refusing to refund our money until our cancellation date of Feb 15th. Then they are going to mail a check that is going to take 4 weeks. Ultimately they charged me money in December and are refusing to refund it in March when I need to cancel my policy. When I asked if I can just cancel the policy all together they said their system wouldn't allow them to and there's nothing they can do.
