This place draws a crowd, but the line moves fast. People are either getting gelato or affogato…read more I had a couple great gelatos; strawberry one time and chocolate another time. Our daughter and fiance always wanted the affogata. This must have been an old restaurant as it had a wine window. The shop does not operate the window, but I kept seeing people knock on the door and getting handed affogato. Then I saw my daughter do it and saw her fiance handing her the cup. LOL. So many people do this and take videos. They both enjoyed the affogato enough to go 3 or 4 times during our visit.

This place is viral, but for good reason. Favored by both locals and visitors, Vivoli offers…read moreincredibly delicious and creamy gelato and affogato. The lines seem long, but they move quite quickly! Pro tip: choose the left line if you're ok with classic or pistachio-topped affogato. It moves much faster compared to the right line. Also you can also order gelato in that line! We came here twice during our trip here. The espresso is freshly brewed after they line your cup with gelato. It's perhaps also the priciest spot we've been in our whole gelato/affogato adventures in Italy - 6€ for classic and 9€ for pistachio topped affogato. However we thought it was worth every euro! They also have gelato options as well! I got a piccolo cup, which is 3€ and comes with 2 flavors. I got their pistachio and hazelnut flavors, and my goodness, it was the best gelato I had throughout my whole trip. The pistachio comes through very nicely without and the hazelnut packs a punch of a flavor! Also I was able to take my gelato and mix with the espresso from my affogato to try some new combinations. Must go if you're in Florence!

The coffee, however, tasted more like a cup of milk, so that could've been better. My 3-star rating has nothing to do with the ambiance and everything to do with trying to fairly balance the quality of the food with the absolutely terrible customer service I experienced. The tall, darker-haired barista taking orders was genuinely one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. After reading through other reviews, I can see I'm clearly not the only person who has had an unpleasant experience with him. While I was simply trying to place my order, he was raising his voice at me and speaking in such a disrespectful, condescending manner that I genuinely felt belittled. The interaction was so uncomfortable that other customers inside were watching the entire exchange. To make matters worse, when my name was called to pick up my food, I noticed my order was incorrect. Rather than interrupt him while he was helping other customers, I politely waited for him to finish. He looked directly at me and aggressively yelled, "SPEAK!" Excuse me? Would you like me to bark? There is absolutely no reason to speak to a paying customer that way, especially one who has been nothing but polite and patient. What makes this even more disappointing is that my friend, who used to live here, was genuinely excited to bring me to this spot. Unfortunately, what should have been a lovely breakfast experience turned into one of the most uncomfortable customer service encounters I've ever had. It's a shame because the food really is good, but good food does not excuse disrespectful service. Hospitality is just as important as what you put on the plate. I definitely won't be returning, and judging by the similar reviews, this is clearly something that should be taken into consideration. Do better.
