You truly feel safe with paths with signs. Lots of people hiking, walking, jogging here, some with their dogs too. There is a small parking lot to leave the car and your belongings before heading into the trails. There are no bathrooms here. But bonus, there is a fully accessible pathway for those who have limited mobility to enjoy the forest also! What a cool inclusive feature that I wish was in more nature zones. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that the forest is very close to the roads, lot of traffic noise and there was even a concert playing nearby when I went that day which really was cool music but ruined the vibe of my forest walk. I wanted to hear nature sounds and trees but instead I got rock music lol. I would visit this place again and hope next time no concert is being played!

The Malcolm Knapp Research Forest located in Maple Ridge BC is a plot of land owned by UBC to train…read moretheir students in their forestry programs. This Research forest is also open to the public all year long for walking only (no bikes or dogs aloud!). There are 4 loop trails located in the forest as well as many many km or logging roads to explore. If you go far enough on some of the logging roads you can gain a view of Pit Lake far below. There are also options of following logging roads into Golden Ears Provincial Park near Mike Lake. While hiking here you may hear very large trees being cut down and it may be a little unnerving (It made me jump a little bit) but this is just the forestry students learning. If it is unsafe to be on a road or trail due to this activity they will close It! For that reason do not go past trail closed signs if you see them! If you visit the forest during the week you may be able to pick up a copy of the trail map from the front office as they are usually open.

The dry spell during spring/summer means the waterfall is more like a trickle. Cliff falls is now a…read morenarrow stream going over part of the rocks. I looked at others' pictures and could now see the difference. Most of the rocks are barely covered by the water. The interesting part now seeing the perfect round holes in the rocks. I guess those holes were formed by erosion when the falls was in full power, gushing over the rocks. We certainly need more rain to fill the creek. It is quite an easy hike/walk to the falls. Some parts have bridges and steps to help navigate. There are picnic tables and benches in the clearing so you can rest and refresh. Bins are there for garbage. We didn't walk to the hatchery area as the heat got to us. Nice place. I will be back to check out the salmon hatchery next time and hopefully the waterfall will be at its usual size. Parking is available at the lot next to the baseball field.

I've been to the Regional Park which I think is on the other side of the dyke (not sure). I came here last week and it was a beautiful day, cold (probably around 1-3 degrees) but really nice. I brought my bike up as well. The trail itself it quite wide so there's lots of room. When I was there there were quite a few walkers, dog walkers, runners and some bikers. And the people there were really friendly, not exaggerating, about 90% of the people you pass by say hi to you. A far cry from Central Park where I go for my runs and feed the squirrels and chickadees. Over there almost no one says hi. Oh yeah and the eagles...lots of eagles! Wow! I can watch these beautiful birds all day. I will be back for sure!

Very nice lake out past Pitt Meadows…read more There are quite a few forest logging roads around this thing. The first section is accessible with regular passenger vehicles. There is even a boat launch and parking lot with picnic area. Farther up, there are some flat areas that are good for chilling by the shore, as well as an upper campsite area. There are also some flat areas out by the lake (off-road vehicle required) where people can ride dirt bikes or otherwise enjoy a bit of nature.

We found the perfect spot where it was pitch black in the sky. We could even see the milky way and the many many stars. We sat back and past midnight to 1 am (on July 29, 2022), we saw many meteorite. That was a fun experience. Stave lake is about 1.5 hour drive away from Vancouver. It is located in Mission.

There were bear-proof garbage cans and doggie poop cans along the way. Outhouses at the base of the trail. We visited on a rainy day so parking was plentiful - but I can see how it would be very limited when the weather is good. Paid parking closest to the entrance and free parking beyond that.

An update of Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is long overdue…read more First of all, several years ago, the signage on the outhouses in the park were changed to be gender neutral. I don't know if this was done because of feedback from the public, but I had made a complaint. In addition to the two outhouses, there are also some port-o-potties installed, but I have never used them because port-o-potties are disgusting; however, more toilets are never a bad thing. Second, I have been back to the park many times over the past several years, and I have now done more hiking trails. In addition to Norvan Falls, I have now done Lynn Loop, Lynn Headwaters Trail, Varley Trail, and yesterday, I attempted part of the Lynn Peak Trail with friends. I have done all the green (easy) and blue (intermediate) trails below Norvan Falls, as well as a portion of Lynn Peak, which is yellow (ie. difficult). I knew the Lynn Peak Trail would be challenging and I would not be able to complete it, but my friends and I wanted to try it. We never intended on completing it as we knew it would be too long and difficult, but we hiked for just over two hours and then turned back, which was our plan. There is no rule that you must finish a trail! I have no plans to ever attempt the more challenging trails past Norvan Falls, although one day I might hike up to Hanes Valley Junction, which is one kilometer past Norvan Falls. Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is a great place for hiking as there are so many different trails for all levels and you can go for an easy walk or a hike anywhere between 2 to 10+ hours, depending on which trails you take. There's something for everyone. It is also very transit accessible (either take the #210 or #228 bus), so that non-drivers have access to the park. It's little wonder that this is a very popular place for not only hikers, but for people going to a picnic just inside the park entrance or a swim on a hot day. Lynn Headwaters Regional Park is also a short walk to Rice Lake and other hiking trails in the nearby Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve. [Yelp collections: Parks and Gardens; Hiking]
