I joined Equinox Downtown San Diego about 2 months ago and started a personal training program with one of their instructors, Coach Jade. I can't say enough about how happy I am with the results. I'm down in weight and bodyfat %, up in muscle mass, etc. Everything I was looking for in results. I go 3x a week and she has been outstanding in keeping me focused and on point, pushing me for results with a long term plan. She also helps me pick the best group exercise classes to do in between sessions for best results. Coach Jade has experience in competitive body building and kinesiology and really knows how to tailor everything according to what you are looking for (strength, power, mobility, etc). While I had some frustrations before, I can honestly say that the classes at Equinox have been such a positive part of my routine. I've been members of Equinox Chicago Michigan Avenue, River Oaks Houston, Midtown Manhattan, West Hollywood and Pasadena. There is an Equinox standard. This is NOT it. Before they opened they promised to deliver the best classes in the central city but did not deliver. The spin js really subpar. Equinox is so focused on the "equinox program" that they "train" the personality out of their instructors. It's really awful. Not my experience of the past. The gym itself is fine - but nothing special. No pool. The staff is friendly enough - but that's it. If all feels very corporate, antiseptic, benign. If it didn't have great bay views, it would be a one star. Downtown San Diego deserves better - and will ultimately demand it by leaving. read more

Place is terrible parking is a pain super small place hardly any workout equipment. I will say they have ok amenities small sauna but if you go there to actually work out I t it's terrible. Also they won't tell you that when you sign up you're signing up for a 3 year contract and won't let you cancel without a doctor's note. Place falls short by miles compared to any other equinox. If you are looking for an elevated workout experience, you came to the right place. Equinox has finally landed in Downtown San Diego and it is everything you would expect from them. If you know Equinox, it's about the amenities and top tier customer service. The employees are all warm and friendly, which is really refreshing (if you go to other gyms downtown you know). Shout out to Frankie, Carly, and Darren for outstanding customer service. True VIP treatment. The facilities are very clean and the locker rooms are resort level. They are very nice with everything you need to clean up for your day. The Steam room is very high quality. You can tell as soon as you open the door how high quality it is. I love the outdoor deck, you can catch a great sunset workout against the Midway. They easily have more cardio equipment than any other gym downtown, as well as more benches, it's not even close. The workout floor is the largest in downtown. Here is the thing, you'll see a lot of space because it isn't full of unused random equipment. Every single piece of equipment in there is usable. The wood way treadmills are phenomenal (they absorb 40% of the impact making them better on your joints). Couple that with great classes (Theme Ride with Sandy to name one) and an Earthbar to grab a post workout smoothie in the lobby and top it off with the Spa for a massage and you've sold me. Wow! After years of waiting for an Equinox location to open downtown, the day has finally arrived. The location is prime, with bay views in a gorgeous new building (where a Javier's will also be opening soon, IFKYK). We took an official tour after their opening yesterday, and were not disappointed. The weight room floor is expansive with water and sunset views. The women's locker rooms are gorgeous, modern with ample vanity's and lockers, and fully stocked with Grown Alchemy products in the showers and on vanity's. As a previous equinox executive member, I was always fond of Khiels, but I do like GA too so excited to see a change in products! One perk of be an executive member was the personal locker and laundry service, which they do offer here! Also they have a cold plunge, several outdoor areas, a long with separate saunas and steam rooms, as well as an extra cold shower! While they don't have a pool, the views make up for it. This location is absolutely beautiful. Also don't want to forget to mention the Earth Bar offerings for protein shakes and smoothies on the go! Cannot wait to become a member here, I have a feeling I won't ever want to leave ;) read more

Enrolling was a breeze! Eli was incredibly helpful during my visit. He answered all my questions and is incredibly knowledgeable. One of my main concerns was parking. Eli walked me to the parking area, showed me where to park, and explained how to find the gym space. I also appreciate that you get 2.5 hours of free parking with gym validation. Thanks again, Eli! Update: After my first week at the gym, I must say that it has been quite fantastic overall. Parking is convenient, and the 2.5 hour validation is a great feature. I take advantage of this by getting my validation done upon entry, ensuring I don't forget to do it when I leave. The cleaning staff takes immense pride in maintaining the gym's cleanliness. They diligently wipe down weights and spot clean the floors, creating a hygienic environment for all members. The smoothie bar is another highlight. To save time, I highly recommend downloading the app and placing your order 5-10 minutes before you finish your workout. I'm giving this gym a 2 out of 5 because the equipment offering is pretty limited. This isn't a class-based studio or a wellness-focused space, so for a traditional gym, I expected a lot more in terms of both variety and quality. If you're positioning yourself as a gym, the equipment should reflect that, and here it just falls short. I came in for a tour with Frankie, and he was great. He followed up the day of to confirm, was friendly, and didn't come across as pushy at all. He also let me get a full workout in before sitting down to talk membership, which I appreciated. After actually using the gym, here's my honest take: Equipment: 2/5 - Pretty limited. There's only one leg extension machine, two leg presses, no real variety in leg curls, and overall just a handful of machines for quads. The setup felt pretty basic, similar to what you'd see at a lower-cost gym. There were also only about 4-5 stairmasters, which could easily become an issue during busy hours. Amenities: 4/5 - This is where they do better. Steam room and sauna in both locker rooms, plus a cold shower. They mentioned adding two cold plunges outside in April, which is a nice upgrade. Towels are provided, including eucalyptus warm towels, which is a nice touch. Membership: 1/5 - They offer a complimentary training or Pilates session and a couple of guest passes per year, which is nice. But requiring a full-year contract at $220+ per month feels like a big ask. That's over a $2,600 upfront commitment without really getting a full sense of the gym. They do have a workspace area if you want to bring your laptop, a solid stretching section, and a variety of classes you can book 26 hours in advance. That said, without being able to experience different times of day, test workouts for all muscle groups, or try multiple classes, committing to a full year at that price just doesn't make sense. There are other gyms offering more equipment, plus extras like red light therapy, pools, jacuzzis, and even meal prep options at a lower monthly rate. I was open to trying it for a couple of months, but the required annual contract at that price point, without more flexibility upfront, made it hard to justify. read more

3 stars - Equinox San Diego Newly opened location in a great area with a really nice view. Like most Equinox gyms, it's super clean, the front desk staff is friendly, and the overall atmosphere feels upscale. Parking is also very easy, which is a big plus. That said, the biggest downside is the size. It's a smaller location, and you can feel it--workout machines are limited, so during busier times it can get frustrating. The amenities also don't quite live up to expectations. The steam room doesn't feel like a true wet steam--it's more on the dry side, and the setup (no stones, steam coming directly from a hose) takes away from the experience. The sauna is very small--realistically fits about 3 people unless you're okay sitting uncomfortably close to others. The cold shower is nice, but it's placed right in front of the sauna, so using it can feel awkward since people inside are right there watching. Overall, it's still a clean, well-run gym with a good vibe, but compared to other SoCal Equinox locations, it falls short--especially with limited machines, tighter space, and no pool. read more

Equinox San Diego is truly my happy place. From the moment I walk through the doors and am greeted so warmly, I immediately feel welcomed, energized, and ready for a great workout. The facility itself is exceptional. The equipment is abundant, modern, and impeccably clean, and everything is extremely well maintained. There is a fantastic variety of classes offered throughout the day, and the instructors are clearly very well trained. Some of my favorites include Soph, Wendy and Asia, but I am just getting started. They are motivating, professional, and they make a genuine effort to connect with the people in their classes, which creates such a positive and supportive atmosphere. The personal training is wonderful, and even the trainers who are not working with you directly are friendly, approachable, and happy to offer help or encouragement. Special shoutout to Marlon who has been working with me for the past few weeks and is always there to help and encourage me even when it is not our session. What really sets this club apart, though, is the feeling of the place. The members are kind and respectful--friendly without ever being intrusive--and you can tell people truly enjoy being there. This place is a complete scam hiding behind a "luxury gym" image. The management at this location is honestly pathetic. I have never dealt with a business so committed to avoiding its own customers. Every single time I call, magically nobody answers or "the manager isn't available." At this point it feels completely intentional because they know people are trying to cancel and they do everything possible to dodge accountability. I never signed anything agreeing to be trapped in some ridiculous year-long commitment, yet they continue charging my account and refuse to let me out. Instead of acting like professionals and resolving issues, management hides, avoids calls, and leaves staff to repeat the same useless scripted responses. No one can ever give a straight answer. It's honestly embarrassing for a company charging these prices. And let's talk about the actual gym itself, TINY, ugly, zero outside space, employees with crazy attitudes, and nowhere near worth the amount they charge people every month. The only thing "exclusive" about Equinox is how aggressively they try to hold onto your money. The fact that I had to block payments because nobody at this gym would respond or help me says everything. Even after revoking authorization, they still attempted to charge my account. That is insane behavior from a company that pretends to be high-end and professional. Management should be ashamed of how they handle customers. Ignoring people until they give up is not customer service, it's shady business practice. I would NEVER recommend this gym to anyone. Amenities are top notch, location is stunning- can't beat bay views while you work out. Everything is so clean and is consistently getting cleaned, staff are great and welcoming, personal trainers are amazing, sauna and steam room are great, multiple studios and classes, this an all in one incredible fitness experience. Weights floor may be smaller but this is not a basic gym focusing only on this component of training, though I never had to wait for any machine or spot. This location falls short compared to other Equinox gyms I have visited. The workout floor is quite small, and several key machines are missing, including an incline chest press, lateral raise machine, and a dedicated row machine. The amenities are well done, and the gym is not overly crowded, which is a positive. However, after months of anticipation and multiple delayed opening dates, the overall experience has been disappointing. I also spoke with staff and was informed that there are currently no plans to add additional equipment, which makes the limited selection more concerning. This is my first Equinox, and I joined for 2 reasons: (1) I live literally a block away so the convenience factor is huge for me, and (2) the workout classes. I don't really lift or use other equipment, so I can't really speak to that much. Things I love: 1. Cleanliness - it is so, so, so clean! The custodial team seems to come through the locker room multiple times per hour, which is really nice to see. They're constantly restocking towels, mopping up water near the showers, etc. They maintain it really well. 2. The yoga instructors and classes so far have been great. I like that there are different styles to choose from. When I've signed up a little late and ended up on the waitlist, I've still usually been able to get off the waitlist. They have all the props your heart could desire, and they even have yogitoes towels that help you to not slip on the mat. I brought my own yogitoes towel my first few classes until I realized they have some there! 3. The locker room amenities are really nice, with a steam room, sauna, and individual showers. Cold plunge won't be ready until summer, last I asked, but there's a frigid cold shower in the locker room by the sauna in the meantime. 4. The view of the bay is so nice. 5. The personal training team has been great! I did my assessment and complimentary session with Anfernee, and he was so friendly. 6. They just switched from Grown Alchemist to Le Labo for their skincare products, and I love the Le Labo stuff. It smells so good. Things I don't love: 1. I wish the yoga studio was bigger. Max capacity seems to be 28 people, but even then the mats are pretty close together and you're bumping into neighbors with certain poses. I wish they had expanded the yoga studio and shrunk the nearby cardio area which never seems to be all that busy instead. 2. Sunset can be pretty blinding... but also where else can you watch the sunset while you work out? 3. No pool. Swimming has always been my favorite/main exercise, so I was really disappointed that there's no pool. I have to keep and pay for another gym membership in order to be able to swim, which drives my monthly gym cost up a bit more. 5. Weekend hours. I really wish that they were open later on Sundays, in particular. My favorite way to beat the Sunday scaries is a Sunday evening workout, and their latest class right now goes from 4-5, with the gym closing at 6. I wish they were open until 8 or 9 on Sundays. I've overheard a few people saying they like Fit Little Italy & East Village better for equipment and cost, for what it's worth, I'm really pleased with Equinox so far. For an Equinox, it could be better. Overall, if Equinox wants to stay alive in DT SD, it has to come close to FIT's facilities/offerings. Right now, it comes 20% close to what FIT has to offer. Shoot...even Aqua Vie has more equipment than Equinox... Pros: -Locker room facilities are beautiful; very clean; include a sauna, steam room and cold rainfall shower. -Chilled essential oil towels available. -A lot of classes available; provided by competent instructors. -Yoga room is heated via overhead infrared panels. Cons: -Because the location is on the second floor, you do not have as beautiful of a view as you are expecting. -There is currently a tiny outdoor area for 1 person to exercise. The barrel sauna is still not put in place; neither is the cold plunge. There is a wrap around deck for the facility, but it is not utilized. -Pilates room is for private sessions only; there are no Pilates machines available for use. -Minimal equipment. 1 hip thrust machine, 1 smith machine; 1 leg press machine; 1 leg extension / curl machine; 1 abductor machine; 1 adductor machine.... you get the idea... n=1 - no glute kickback machines -kettlebell class does not have enough kettlebells for all individuals attending class -space is small; there is very minimal space to do exercises on the floor, unless utilizing a bench. -A lot of treadmills; facing the main gym area; so, you miss the view of harbor. -Lobby is EXTREMELY loud. If you wanted to take a call, it feels impossible, because they are blasting music. Makes the 'work' / 'social' area useless for working professionals. I had to go outside and utilize the IQHQ lobby space by the elevators. -Parking is only 2 and a half hours; originally when I signed up, it was advertised for 3 and a half. On weekends, if I want to take a class in addition to doing a workout, I have to rush through utilizing the facilities available to me. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP. I signed up with Kyle, who texted me everyday to sign up. I signed up and the gym wasn't what I expected at all. It's very similar to the gym in my apartment building. The only difference is the sauna and steam room which isn't enough for me to keep the gym membership. I asked Kyle at the beginning of April to cancel my membership. They said I had 45 days from the beginning to decide on my membership. I decided I no longer wanted it so I requested to cancel within the time frame. Kyle questioned me as if he ways paying for my membership. He said he would escalate it to someone else. I followed back up with Kyle multiple times since no one had reach out to me for weeks and I come to find out he blocked me. This place is a complete joke. I spoke to Julieth who requested me for proof that I reached out to Kyle at the beginning of April to cancel. Basically they just want to drag this along. I wouldn't keep the membership even if it was free at this point. The employees here are inconsistent. read more

On opening day they didn't even have everything open. I've already cancelled my membership and they are giving me the run around so they can have me continue paying. The sauna is small as a closet. This gym sucked. The gym has underground parking and you have to go to the ground level and then go outside to enter into the gym so good luck when it's raining. once you enter you check-in and you have to go up the stairs which is not a big deal however, when you first enter the gym area it's super small I think Chuze Fitness and planet fitness have more equipment than this gym. The view is supposed to be a big seller yet the trees outside are blocking your whole view. There's a lack of patio space and the only good thing about this gym is probably the bathroom. You can probably find better gyms in San Diego. It's giving hotel gym vibes. This gym definitely does not give luxury or high-end. Whoever designed this gym did not think about the guest experience highly disappointed. read more

Talk about overpromising and under delivering! The gym is tiny, with only 1 yoga room and 1 group fitness area, so classes are extremely limited and hard to get into since they only let you register for classes 26 hours in advance!! So there is no planning out your week unless you don't mind standing-by in hopes people don't show up to the full classes. I tried several different classes and for the most part, the instructors do not come around and offer any individual guidance to those that are CLEARLY struggling with the moves. Also, I find the times of classes offered are largely inconvenient. As previously mentioned, all cardio equipment is crammed into a windowless corner. There is a tiny outdoor balcony where 1 person can comfortably workout at a time. There are zero amenities such as a pool, hot tub, not to mention pickleball, basketball, rock climbing wall, tennis, etc like many other gyms offer. There are zero recovery facilities- no red light, no massage chairs, no hot tub, etc. The "lounge" area downstairs next to reception has extremely loud music blaring at all times, with employees always sitting and talking on the couches- good luck trying to read an email here. I tried a hydrafacial here and thought it was severely lacking. I would recommend avoiding the facialist I saw- Mia. Checking in is not streamlined, and you have to have someone physically scan your phone (I prefer not to bring my phone to the gym with me) and your parking ticket for validation instead of offering self check in with a scanner, like every other gym has. Which causes a backup of people when the receptionists are chatting. Management is severely unorganized. This facility really has nothing to offer. After the first 2 initial weeks it was open, the gym has become very empty. Seems like many other are disappointed with the facilities and have chosen to go elsewhere, like I have. read more
