I genuinely like this gym. The staff is great, the atmosphere is good, and I enjoy working out here. That's exactly why it's so frustrating to see a gym marketed as a premium facility have this many ongoing maintenance and management issues. The steam room has been out of service what feels like every other week. It appears to finally be fixed now, but given the history, we'll see how long that lasts. Several lockers have damaged or detached hinges that can literally snag, cut, or leave grease on your clothes when you hang things inside. Gym equipment breaks and can stay broken for weeks, sometimes close to a month. Whenever these issues are brought to management, the response is almost always some version of, "We're aware of it, we're waiting on corporate." At some point, that stops being an explanation. The back extension machine was also moved into the middle of the gym, where it now seems to get no use. When members complained, we were told its previous location was a fire hazard. That explanation is difficult to take seriously. The room has three exits, and the machine was not obstructing an exit path. I'm familiar enough with fire-code requirements to know that simply calling something a "fire hazard" doesn't make the explanation convincing. Parking deserves its own paragraph. The system constantly has problems. Gates malfunction, sections occasionally close, and the payment machines sometimes refuse to read credit cards. Getting stuck trying to leave a parking structure after a workout because the equipment doesn't work is ridiculous. But the biggest issue is the air conditioning. For a significant part of the summer, the AC was barely functioning. I'm writing this review while sitting inside the gym right now. There are probably around 30 people here, and the temperature easily feels above 80°F with almost no airflow. That is not an exaggeration. In a facility where people are exercising intensely, proper ventilation and temperature control should be one of the most basic operational requirements. None of these complaints are about the staff. I actually like the employees here, and that's part of the reason I continue coming. The problem appears to be maintenance, facility management, and/or corporate support. A premium gym should not routinely have broken machines, damaged lockers, unreliable parking equipment, steam-room failures, and most importantly inadequate air conditioning. Members are paying premium prices. The facility should be maintained to a premium standard. Management already seems to be "aware" of most of these problems. What we need at this point isn't another acknowledgment. We need them fixed. read more

This review is for the Glendale location only, not Equinox as a whole. First, the positives. I'm giving this location 3 stars only because the staff has always been friendly and professional, and the Equinox brand has treated me well over the years. Now the negatives. This location has really gone downhill. It's already one of the smallest clubs, yet they keep adding members without any regard for the limited space or equipment. The BIGGEST change has been the culture. More and more groups of high-schoolers come in with their friends or girlfriends and treat the gym like a social hangout, taking turns on the same machine while chatting for 20-30 minutes while everyone else waits. On top of that, sweaty towels are left everywhere, and weights rarely make it back to the racks. Half the time you have to go on a scavenger hunt just to find the dumbbells you're looking for. I felt this was no-longer an Equinox. It felt more like a glorified $20 gym. I've even brought in a couple of friends on guest passes, and both decided not to join because they said it felt just as crowded and basic as the gyms they were already paying much less for. I won't be renewing my membership here and I'm already exploring other options. If you're considering this location, I'd recommend visiting during peak hours before signing up. read more

If you're looking for a gym, this is the perfect place. The machines are always clean. The bathrooms are spotless. The showers and the amenities are amazing! I love the heated yoga class, Pilates, and athletic conditioning. Linda, the instructor is so much fun! I love her classes. If you're looking to join, make sure you ask for Andrew at the front desk. I have been a member of this gym for about a little over 6 months, so here is my honest review. I since I joined Equinox, I have been working with a personal trainer, Diana, who is amazing and is helping me reach my fitness goals. Prior to joining this gym I had gained about 20lbs from life... Diana is throughly helping me with my weight loss journey. I have never felt better in my body as I do now. I am stronger and the food noise has diminished. Not only has she coached on weightlifting/ strength training but has also coached me on my diet. Lastly, I look forward to every session I have booked with Diana, she makes a special tailored program for my needs / goals and is flexible / adaptable with scheduling. Front Desk/ locker room I am always greeted with a smile from the front desk personnel. The bathroom / locker room is always tidy. The bonus for me is that they provide parking validation for the parking structure. I am always able to find a parking spot get in and out without a hiccup. The one critique I have for Equinox is that I wish they were open a little later on the weekend. read more

I've been a member here for about two years. This was the first gym I ever joined (prior to this, I had only done group fitness). Joining Equinox and getting support from my terrific trainers (first Talar, and now Hank) really changed my experience of fitness, my body, and my life. I am now a personal trainer evangelist, and have convinced my partner and others to get training. As for this facility, I find it to be convenient, clean, and very rarely crowded. I almost never have to wait on any particular equipment. The few classes I have taken here (mostly yoga) have been a nice change of pace as well. And, as I mentioned, the training has been a game changer. It's not cheap, but I think the quality of the facilities and service is excellent (and I'm fortunate to get a discount through my work!). read more

I've been a member here for over a year and love the facility and the staff. Don't sleep on the chilled eucalyptus towels! This review isn't really about the towels, though. I'm writing to shout out my fabulous trainer Hank I started training with Hank a couple of months ago and could not be happier with what I've been able to achieve. Hank is motivating, understanding, and funny as hell to boot. I actually have so much fun working out now. And the results and changes I've seen in myself are everything. Working out is hard, but my coach, Aryana Hamzehloo makes it easy!! She makes my 6am morning sessions feel like I'm going to hang out with a friend, and before I even know it, an hour has passed. She's extremely detail oriented and so knowledgeable. I know I'm in good hands. It feels easy to communicate my goals and needs to her, and she's always ready with suggestions. She's become such an integral part of my fitness journey, I can't imagine working with anybody else. read more

I love equinox however I will say for a luxury gym the least you can do is put soft water system in your showers. Also, I love mat Pilates here but not having it on schedule every day is unfortunate and sort of still requires me to keep other memberships active for the sake of daily Pilates. read more

I've been training with Chanel for two years, and at 45 years old I'm in the most strong and healthy shape of my life thanks to her. Love this place! I'm 59 and it's been a while since I've been to a gym. Equinox feels more like a spa than a gym! The place is spotless and they have the best equipment. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I especially love my personal training sessions with Hank Schmidt. I gave him my fitness goals, and he listened carefully and tailored a perfect program for me. He was also able to switch things up if needed, due to my lower back and knee issues. He is extremely professional, but also brings a sense of fun to each workout. I would also highly recommend Damaris Castro for a massage, top notch, one of the best massages I've ever received! read more

I'm not sure why there are so many negative comments. Music is subjective and pretty impossible to please everyone! Also, it makes sense to not use your phone while working out. I enjoy the gym because of amazing teachers and cleanliness, towel service, decent showers and cleaning products. Wish there were more options of vinyasa or slow flow daily, to manage work life without missing yoga on certain days. Other than that, I'm very happy here. read more

Let me just start by praising my personal trainer, Aryana. I came to train with her because I was having back pain and there was a chance I would need surgery. My chiro told me I need to strength train ASAP and get my core and back strong. Aryana has been SO DETAILED with her training. Making sure I am working on stability, strength, and pushing me without it ever feeling dangerous. She really knows what she is doing and what muscles to target. It's been 6 months and I do not have back pain!!! I really credit her for my progress, and am so glad to have found her. Highly recommend (plus, she is a sweetie). Worth every penny. read more

I'm very conflicted about this gym. I will probably join Crunch Burbank, which is filled with annoying teens, but at least my wallet will be happier. I can book a monthly massage with the money I save. My corporate membership deal has gone up $25 a year the past two years. A 30% is definitely faster than inflation! What was a nice luxury oasis after a hard day at the office, is becoming a stressful inflation spiral. Amazing classes. The locker room, steam room, and showers immaculate. Plenty of cardio equipment. However, the weight training area feels like "Battle Royale": - Patrons hogging machines or squat racks for 30 minutes. - People DO re-rack their weights back, but there just isn't enough space (or equipment) for all the people working out. Finally, the parking garage is a nightmare. Tiny spaces, filled with double-parked cars. Not cool for what I'm paying. It started off so well too. Too bad. read more

I posted a while back praising Irvine Equinox as my favorite. I've been to many of the Equinoxes in the world (Chicago, Boston, London, SF, Orange County, etc, and many more) as I had one of the higher-tiered memberships (I believe it was Sports Club, but there was some special tier for Orange County as it came with valet parking and my own locker room) I have been incredibly happy with the membership but had to cancel my membership about a year ago because I had to move to Tampa, FL for work. Recently I decided to reconsider joining Equinox again given that due to some changes to work, I would be splitting my time in Glendale CA, and Tampa FL. I scheduled a consultation with Jack after having a discussion with Alesia. I scheduled an appointment for 9 AM on Sunday 9/17. I came in early as I am an early riser and brought my work material (laptop, charger, etc.) hoping I could just get a quick tour and work in the cafe. What happened next was very bothersome... The receptionist judged me as if I was some high school kid trying to sneak into a movie theater and didn't show any flexibility. I've had situations like this before for example London (not making it clear on their website the difference between E and Sport or Chicago, when they weren't able to find me in the system) What I couldn't understand was the unwillingness to look at me or the eagerness to help the customer out. I'm too old to deal with untrained staff and if someone is serious about spending $200-$300 for a membership, you need to hire better people for better service. Also, it shouldn't be super hard to just sit and wait in a cafe as this isn't Fort Knox. read more
