We booked a ride for the 2nd week of February and got to have the first ride of the year since last November. The weather let up and it ended up being nice out. Garry and Shannon were great. We had a blast on the 2.5 hour ride through the hills and through some icy patches. If we're back in West Virginia again, we'll be stopping in again for sure! read more

We booked a ride for our interracial family before seeing the review accusing the owner of being racist. My husband and biracial kids and I went for a 2 hour morning ride. The trails were very muddy but it had rained for several days prior so that's not their fault. We had a good experience. The owner was very friendly and polite. He made small talk with us and took his time going over safety rules and riding tips with our kids. He treated us very well and showed no sign of racism or bigotry. read more

Owner is a douchbag. We contacted him a week before our visit and rescheduled to fit his schedule. Gave him credit card to reserve our spot. Then a day before our trip he texted to cancel because he had apparently gotten other customers who were paying for a longer trip. No apology. With covid he had told us he didn't have work for all his guides so could have probably found one. Don't bother reserving because he doesn't honor his agreements. read more

We did not have a positive experience. The guides were terrible (on their phones the whole time), the horses weren't cared for, and the trails were in poor condition. We're going to file a complaint with ACE, who sent us to them. read more

I'm going to give this experience a solid meh. It was okay but rather unprofessional. A few of the saddles were not tightened well enough and kept slipping. One rider came off the horse because the saddle slipped and twisted a knee. She was given a pretty bad time because she couldn't get back onto the horse with her knee in not great shape. All in all it could have been a lot better. read more

Enjoyable experience! Me, Husband and 10 year old daughter went on a Monday afternoon and our guide was Dustin, AKA Team Bubbles. Very nice guide who was personable and guided us throughout the ride. The trail was up in the mountains with some major (to me,lol) inclines and you had to go back down one also, but the horses knew what they were doing. Horses were healthy and good natured! They were able to accommodate us with a time same day and at the end we got to met the owner who was a very nice. Only thing I would offer as constructive criticism would be clearly mark areas for parking and checking in. Even though we were not sure where to go they came out to meet us before we got too far. All in all we will definitely go back and do recommend! Go TEAM BUBBLES! read more

I try not to write negative reviews, since this is someone's livelihood, but I don't want someone else to have our experience. I'll list safety concerns first and then quality/fun concerns later. Safety concerns: 1) We took the sunset ride and it ran an hour+ late late for reasons I'll detail later, so at the end you had a bunch of mostly inexperienced riders going down a steep hill in the dark, in the woods and in the mud. Google it and you'll see most horseback riding sites don't recommend inexperienced people riding in the twilight or dark. We had an 11 year old boy whose horse fell (slowly) because the horse lost its footing. Thankfully everyone was safe, but it was a scary experience where a person or horse could have been seriously injured. I grew up riding horses, but I don't think I've ever ridden in conditions like these. I let the horse lead the way on that hill because I couldn't see a thing. We were in the trees, so there wasn't even moonlight. The kids thought it was a fun adventure, but in my experience, we were lucky something worse didn't happen. 2) One of the horses had some kind of issue, that made him a bad choice for beginning riders. My boyfriend was originally put on this horse, had problems from the start, and he got off the horse after it reared slightly. Thinking it was just a high strung horse, I switched on, since I'm fairly experienced. The horse was fine for a while then started reading a little, backing up, pawing the ground. I think there was an issue with the horse's bit or teeth, as there seemed to be extreme sensitivity on the reins. After the horse started rearing a little with me, our guide Richard decided to ride the horse. I spent the next roughly two hours riding at a safe behind the horse as the guide struggled with him. The behavioral issues slowed the entire group down. Our guide Richard was doing as good a job as I think could be done. Richard also called the owner, who said the horse was just being difficult after not having been ridden for a while. When our group was obviously slowed down, the lead guide, Jared, basically yelled at Richard to 'get control of your horse'. I can understand the comment the first time or two, but after the third time, Jared should have tied his horse, walked back and looked at the situation himself. It basically came across as mean and unhelpful. There is/was obviously an issue with the horse. The owner, to be fair, drove out in his truck to look at the horse, right before we rode into the dark. This was about the only extended period of time the horse wasn't behaving badly, which frankly I find odd. If I were the owner, I would have swapped out the horse or just cancelled one person's ride, rather than keep having a guide on a problem horse as the group is about to go down a tree covered hill in the dark. Alternately, he could have had us take a different route to the barn. 3) We were originally placed apart from the kids and the kids were at the back, with another inexperienced rider who kept stopping. My boyfriend, after the horse incident, ended up going to the back to be with them. There should have been a guide bringing up the rear. The whole group dragged out between the horse behavior issues and stragglers at the end. This was after we started late due to stragglers. 4) When I brought up the fall in the darkness to the owner, he was incredibly dismissive. His first comments were "these horses have been riding these trails hundreds of times and we've never had an issue. You need to lead your horse". I didn't get any sense of real concern about the child who fell in the dark. We explained it was too dark for us to see and the horse fell. Whatever, I gave up trying to make this guy take this seriously. 5) They don't require riders to wear helmets. I can sort understand this for adults, but I think they should require inexperienced child riders, at a minimum, to wear helmets. The helmet selection was not great - half had the liners removed so Velcro could rip out your hair. 6) the rein broke on the problem horse twice and I was on a too small saddle. I can understand having a limited number of saddles, they're expensive, but keep your gear in good condition. About the only pros in my opinion: the sunset on the field was pretty, and our guide Richard was a very sweet person. read more

My family just returned from the sunset trail ride. Things turned sour from the very beginning. The owner greeted us by yelling about the former group with his beer-drenched breath. He seemed very upset about a family letting a 5 and 6 year old ride when the age limit was 8. First thought: if that is your policy, why did you allow them to ride?? We found out later the 6 year old had fallen off the horse. Our trail was supposed to begin at 6:30, but we didn't take off until closer to 8. The sun was already close to setting. As we started on the trail, my brother was told that his horse did not get along with the one in front of him. Instead of re-arranging the horses, they just let them be in that same order. My brother asked at least twice to move to a different place in line since the horses kept fighting one another. They ignored him. Later, this turned into a nightmare as the one horse spooked my brother's causing it to run away, throwing my brother onto the ground. He got a concussion from this. This however, is not the end of the nightmare..... throughout the trail, I realized this was not for beginners at all. The hills were steep and slippery, the horses were not calm, they were agitated from missing their meal earlier. We were taken along a narrow cliff, and the horses wanted to do their own thing disregarding the pulling of their reigns. My sister's saddle kept slipping to the side and at one point her horse slipped in the mud, causing her saddle to slip, throwing her into a tree. It was at this point that she asked to leave the trail. SHE WAS NOT ALLOWED. She was forced to continue through the trail. The guides were inexperienced and the girl who "tightened" my sister's saddle had been there only 3 days and could not properly tighten it. The head guide finally came back and tightened it for the third time. Later, we reached a hay field where the horses tried to roam even more. The guides were not helpful in keeping the horses in line. One guide let her horse eat whenever it wanted which was one of the main things they warned us against. When one horse tries to eat, they all will. My sister's horse was trying to eat instead of follow, even though she was pulling at the reigns. The lead guide came back to help my sister's horse and slapped it making it run ahead with my already scared sister on top. At this point, my sister asked again to get off the horse and go back. She was clearly upset and did not desire to continue. Still, she was FORCED to finish the trail! The sky was almost black now, we could barely see, and we were concerned about getting back to the stables by way of a very steep, slippery downhill slope. My father asked the lead guide about letting the whole family off the trail before the steep hill. He did not feel comfortable with beginners riding a horse down a muddy slope in pitch black. Especially since the horses had already slipped and had not followed the pulling of reigns. The guide agreed and contacted the owner. The owner met us along the way, but to our horror, he was still making us go down the hill in the dark. He begged for us not to have to go down, and my sister again asked to get off the horse and just walk the rest of the way, but again..... THEY FORCED all of us to ride down the scary slippery hill. My father was very upset because my sister didn't feel like she had control of her horse and was getting scared. The owner called her a sissy and said that 6 year olds do this all the time. (Wait, wasn't your age limit 8??) My father was shouting over and over that we do not want to go down this hill because it was too dangerous for beginners. The owner then began to cuss out my father claiming we were the ones being dangerous since apparently one is "safer on top of horse sliding down a mountain than walking down a mountain on your own feet".. hmm.. The owner then grabbed the reigns of my sister's horse and pulled the horse down the slippery mountain as she screamed for him to stop. The owner fell in the mud, releasing the reigns, causing the horse to run wild into the woods before finally coming to a stop. This was extremely terrifying for my sister and all of us. Shortly after the slope we were back at the stables where the owner basically tried to talk us out of a lawsuit by making the ride free of charge. I would NEVER recommend this stable to any riders who want to actually enjoy themselves. It was a time of stress and overall doubt if any of these people even knew what they were doing. Equestrian Adventures is putting money over the safety of their customers and has made our entire family afraid to ever go near a horse again. read more
