A little hard to contact initially, as the website doesn't have too much info. I recently found out that the Jam Handy actually has AMAZING history attached to it. It's named after a guy named Jam Handy (surprise!), who was an Olympic swimmer in the early 20th century. He started the Jam Handy Organization to produce training films for the auto-industry! Later, the organization produced thousands of training films for the army in WW2. Now, it's a bad-ass event space. Hosting events from weddings, film showings, epic dance battles and more! There's a small parking lot and also free street parking on Grand Blvd. If you get the chance to go here...go!

I came here for Yelp's Nauti by Nature party and had SO much fun. This space was perfect to host it, with grand balconies, an amazing view, and interesting spaces. This boat house has been flooded multiple times, and they're currently working on restoring it, room by room. Our event was a fundraiser for the building, in an effort to return it to its previous grandeur. Currently, it's still beautiful and majestic, just dated and in need of some repairs. The…read moreLoft was fantastic to work with and easily accommodated our requests, which included that which they were probably not used to: unconventional seating (this was hands-on hairstylist training,) extra extension cords/power strips, comfort with hair care products and heat tools being used in the space, and unconventional timing. The team at The Loft is on top of their game, is easy to get ahold of, and is great with follow-up. The catering was excellent, and I loved that they had vegan/vegetarian options plentifully available. Onsite staff was accessible and always willing to lend a hand if we needed to reset something in the room. Only a couple of snags we ran into: 1) in the warmer months the loft had a particular... odor about it. I don't know if it is because there is a workout studio below, or the neighborhood, but we had to cover it up with candles. 2) One particular event which took place in January the loft was without heat for the entire day of our training. An apology was made, but we were not given any sort of compensation for the inconvenience. Overall, it's a great unique space and I would recommend it.

Depending on where your room is, and what floor you are on, nighttime activity in the. city, like any major city can be loud until after midnight. What this hotel offers in their rooms are sound machines, which absolutely make a difference. Up until this time we had never need to use it, but the city was pretty lively on Friday night and we could hear it all. As soon as we turned on the sound machine it really helped to drown out the noise. A good venue if you're looking for accommodation's.

This property is housed in the 1925 Metropolitan Building, a stunning Neo-Gothic "Jeweler's Building" that sat vacant for nearly 40 years. Seeing it restored to its former glory rather than being demolished is a win for the city.  The entrance lobby and the grand stairway to the second floor are phenomenal--the restoration team clearly put a lot of heart into preserving the marble and the ornate details. Because the hotel has to conform to the original historic footprint, the rooms are unique and oddly shaped. It was a refreshing change of pace to stay somewhere that broke out of the usual "cookie-cutter" hotel mold. My room featured a long internal hallway, a small kitchenette, and enough windows to provide a fantastic view of the Detroit skyline.  Check-in was seamless, and the staff were excellent throughout my stay. I initially considered subtracting a star because my room lacked a steamer, but the breakfast service won me back. The made-to-order omelets and the yogurt granola station were top-notch, and that high-quality start to the day made up for any minor room omissions. If you appreciate architecture with a history and a bit of character, this is definitely the place to stay in Detroit.

Highly recommend - we'll be back again as we enjoy distillery tours and usually have to go to Kentucky for good ones like this.

Located in an old downtown office building with a four-story atrium, they've converted the offices on the first 5 or 6 floors into hotel rooms. The rest of the building is converted into residences ... and nice ones at that. We were here for a Tigers game on a nice warm Friday night. The hotel and surrounding area were really jumping. Hotel staff was friendly and accommodating, if a litte overwhelmed on a game day ... the first room they assigned us was already occupied. After straightening that out, it was pretty smooth sailing. Nice appointments in the rooms, comfortable bed, great views of the baseball park. Valet took care of the car, so we could just walk to the game and not have parking problems. There is a dining facility off the atrium (Preseley's Kitchen & Bar), so once you're here you can stay. All in all a nice setup and visit ... just keep in mind you're downtown and near a MLB park ... so for sleeping at night, it is very noisy.

There is also a ton of seating for you to enjoy your food and drink and to cowork from as well. If you want to become a member, the upper floors are open to you with more collaborative and private spaces for you to enjoy! It is a non-profit organization and just a gloriously safe and intentionally-curated space to foster creativity and amazing vibes. I always feel so at peace and centered when I'm at BasBlue and love to take meetings from here as often as I can! It's located very close to the DIA, but only open during the weekdays. This is a very nicely renovated mansion turned into a woman's club. Like a late 1800's gentleman's club, only for women. There is a locker room/workout room/nursing area, but I did not see them because I am not a woman. They have lectures and groups within the club. They have a full kitchen, and the usual food on offer seemed like you would expect at a starbucks or better. They have drinks, coffee, and wine. The wine was higher end. And they use an ordering app so members at different rooms of the club can order easily. Lots of rooms. Dining and lecture rooms, lounge and club type rooms, conference rooms. A large event room. All really nice. There are smaller serving bars on the second and third floors. Depending on age, annual membership is 600 or 1200 dollars. It looked great. Maybe it could have used more restrooms, but that is sort of reaching for something negative to say.

Many were beautiful--but when we walked into The Colony Club, we immediately felt that this was the one. The entire style and vibe were exactly what we were looking for. We fell in love with every space--from Bar Charles to the breathtaking Grand Ballroom. We were also impressed by how much was included without extra add-on costs: tables, chairs, food, liquor, signature drinks, and more. It made planning easier and helped us stay within budget. From our very first meeting, we worked with Amber, our sales manager, and she stayed with us up until the week of the wedding. Amber was absolutely exceptional throughout the entire process. She was helpful, organized, flexible, and so easy to communicate with. We met multiple times at the venue, both with and without her, while making decisions for the big day, and she was always available to answer questions, address concerns, and offer thoughtful advice. Amber took care of coordinating with our other vendors, and I never once felt worried about how things would come together. Even during the stressful week leading up to the wedding--when I was emailing and calling constantly--she was patient, reassuring, and truly amazing to work with. Now the food... wow. It was exceptional! We still have guests raving about everything--from the appetizers to the entrées. The service and quality exceeded all of our expectations, and friends and family continue to tell us what an incredible wedding it was.
