This area is gorgeous and full of natural beauty. Regardless of which hiking trail you decide to explore, you will be taken back by the beautiful Montana scenery. My family and I have been coming here for 13 years now, and it still remains our favorite spot to soak up some nature. If you are just traveling through the area and came to this review, I promise you won't be disappointed. Here's a little secret: during huckleberry season, you will find there are plenty of huckleberry bushes scattered throughout the different trails. I would suggest grabbing a handful to snack on while you are hiking. If you aren't sure what they look like, Google "huckleberry bushes." The second you taste the sweetness of one, you will know. Be sure to bring some water with you if this is your first time. Also, don't forget to take lots of pictures!

In a nutshell, the owners and staff are very nice folks, our cabin was clean and comfortable, however we both thought there are better dude ranch options out there if you're looking for a full week stay. They cater more as an outfitter guiding 7-10 multi day pak trips, which leave and arrive at various times during our week stay. The guest that stay at the ranch, are more of an afterthought. They allow guests to stay & ride for just a couple nights/days and then continue on with their Montana vacation. If you're looking for a 2-3 night stopover, sleep in a cabin and ride a horse a few times this is your place! If you're looking for a full week stay at an authentic dude ranch there are better choices. We had a good time, and the scenery from the lodges patio is beautiful, but the quality of the lodge, food, cabins, barn corral area, spring fed ponds were furthest from "authentic dude ranch" of the five ranches we have visited.

I loved they are located right in town so you can walk from downtown and they provide things like lockers and a small rest room (and misting fans) while you wait to board the bus. The bus ride is pretty short and the driver knew a lot about local in's and outs of the topography. They had dry bags, phone bags, coolers, and even water shoes to rent which was next level awesome. The tubes they use themselves are some of the best I've utilized- built in pillow and a hammock to keep your butt out of the water. They gave us great tips for how to maneuver the river. Highly recommend this to make your summer day 100% better.

If you don't know Missoula it is easy to feel lost. My father (57yr old) had an extremely difficult time at take out. Many slippery rocks(balance is an issue) steep 40% incline from river to pavement (seniors not recommended) then 3 flights of stairs. I myself loved it all. If you have a senior or someone with severe arthritis I would recommend a guided raft trip. They are priced right so you get what you pay for. If comfortable on the river give them a try.

That is why it's worth the extra effort, because places change with the seasons. And the more special that place is, the more dramatic the changes. I've never been to Morrell Falls, a well-known day trip outside of Seeley Lake, during tourist season. I imagine that it's fun, but you'll share the trail with others. In early May, when snow alternates with bright sun and spring meltwater causes the falls to roar and gush down from the heights, you'll find only a few hardy souls out and about. The trailhead was not accessible yet, as snow banks covered parts of the road still, so I parked and walked about a mile in. From there, it was 2.5 additional miles through a mix of snow and dirt to the falls. The trail is easy to follow. Even the short 1/4 mile ascent to the upper falls was relatively straightforward. The roar of falling water makes a fantastic motivator to see the upper section, where the plunging cascade pools into a small basin before continuing the journey down to the lower portion, which is all most visitors usually see. Are the upper and lower falls worth it? They aren't easy to describe in words without diminishing their magnetic appeal. We all get this: falling water is astonishing each time you see it. And at Morrell, you can't take your eyes away, and you wish that time would just stand still so that you can savor it all. It's such a pristine and private place that there is nothing whatsoever to improve. It's simply perfect. Over a course of 200 feet, Morrell Creek drops down from its headwaters high above in the Swan Range and spreads out into a crystal clear flow of fresh, cold, shallow water. It passes through a tight rocky squeeze to get there, creating impressive torrents of falling water. No matter how many you see, each waterfall is special. Morrell is definitely no different. Even though this hike is popular (in summer), it's still not exactly easy to access. You need to drive miles on forest service roads and head deep into thick pine forest before the falls appear. Plodding through wet snow to reach them may not be your idea of a good Cinco de Mayo celebration (which is when I visited). But for me, it was a fiesta of sights and sounds that will resonate for many months to come. Morrell joins my mental scrapbook of the world's many wonderful waterfalls. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning, indeed.

Hours are funky. Basically closed during winter and limites hours at other times due to flooding risks and all that good stuff. Salmon Lake is ideal for boating, camping during summer and lounging around. Im not sure about swimming in the lake. Kinda sketchy depending on boats and human pollution. Night time is surreal on clear nights. The night sky illuminates all the stardust in their pure glory. The colors are different than what we cali scumbags are accustomed to seeing based on their proximity to the north. Either way. Kick back and relax. Let nature sooth your soul.

Missoula really likes their big letters: right across the "M" Trail is the Mount Jumbo trail that…read morehas the big "L" on it. I'm surprised I don't see the rest of the alphabet! To get here type in "Mount Jumbo Trailhead" on Google Maps. It'll take you to a residential area with a couple parking spots which is basically neighborhood street parking; you'll see the trail head with a sign as you pull up. There are a lot fewer people here than the "M" but there are also fewer parking spots, so come early if you can. Similar to the "M" Trail there's a bit of an incline to the "L" Trail. I think the initial incline for the "M" is slightly harder but this is still a decent incline hike. When you get to the "L" on the mountain there's a set of stairs on the left of it to continue going. Not long after some narrow walkways you'll end up on this wide-open area with tons of wavy hilltops which is just beautiful. There are mountains and trees all around and is very peaceful and quiet. If you go 2 miles you'll reach the highest point of the trail but that's technically not the end. There's a slight decline after the highest point for another mile until you get to the saddle. It's called that because it's in between the two hilltops. Unfortunately it was very cloudy from all the smoke in the area so the view wasn't what I was hoping for and I didn't go all the way to the saddle and but it was still a nice hike and still decent views of the city and surrounding areas.

This is also known as Mount Loyola for some reason, but nobody is "loyala" to that name. It's iconic and it is beautiful and it truly towers over Missoula in the western part of Montana. The locals called it "the thing in the way" which is a pretty awesome name for a mountain. It's definitely one of the most beautiful mountains in the country and they spent about eight million trying to make sure this mountain would always be protected, which is good so well done to the locals for doing that. Honestly other Republican states would have exploited the sh** out of their rural monstrosities, but not this town... which is a very very liberal town. It's absolutely stunning. And I will always like this town for being a tiny pocket of blue in a sea of red as they say.

There is a nice trail that goes through the park if you want to get a real walk/run in. My favorite part of the trip was one evening when I sat on the embankment and enjoyed some quiet time looking at the river and taking in the views of the mountains.
