I've been obsessed with the coffee shop across the parking lot, and I finally felt that it was time for me to try fermentation farm. Their kombucha hands-down has been some of the best I've ever had. I tried the famous tuna melt and also got a chicken taco. The food was good, but not great in my opinion. At that price point, there are a lot of nearby places with quality ingredients that taste better. I do love the mission and background of this restaurant. I read up a little bit about how the food is sourced. Consumers are definitely getting quality products here, but sometimes quality doesn't always transfer over as deliciousness. Again, the food was good, but not something that I'm going to be yearning for. I would like to come back and try the chocolate cake that is also very popular and perhaps the Ramen. And of course, another flavor of their delicious kombucha.

Hot pot was good. Prices were good for hot pot. You order most things (maybe everything) on an iPad so that's nice that you don't have to flag them down because service took quite some time. First, I came (before my party) and it was quite empty. I stood there waiting to even be acknowledged for literally 5-10 minutes. (There were a handful of tables already being served but no staff came by to say anything at all.) Then, when they finally asked how they can help, I checked in, told them someone from my party already called and made the reservation and they said they're working on it. But, we sit in the waiting area for another 20 minutes. Someone else from my party finally decided to ask if the table is ready and they guide us to it. My questions are why didn't they come get us? However much longer would we have waited? Should we have kept checking in periodically to get our table sooner? It was an upsetting start to the meal. I like to give the benefit of the doubt but there were a decent amount of staff to do what was needed, unless the back give them that many tasks, as they were all back there for the majority of the time.

Everything for the do it yourself projects were donated by Whole Foods and the classes were free! I was able to take home the products I made in cute little glass jars. My kimchi is currently fermenting and I can hear my bottle bubbling. Classes were taught by local business owners which was a great way for them to promote their establishments. What a cool community event! There were cooking demonstrations inside Surfas culinary district where you could learn about things like how to cook with local California products, or about Tamales of South America and then we were able to have samples of what was demonstrated. Yum! Surfas also had some of their amazing cheese out to sample and I couldn't resist purchasing a big hunk of Holland Gold which is a Dutch goats milk Gouda. Oh it's tasty! I walked through the vendor area and bought some refreshing pink lady apple kombucha from the owner of the kombucha co thats trying to get her business off the ground. I also picked out a cute "Oh Kale Yeah!" T-shirt from another vendor that I was so excited about I wore it the next day to ciclavia. I was exposed to local business that I would love to seek out and patronize again. Arc restaurant gave a steak 101 demonstration and told us how he only uses local(from lake Elsinore) grass fed beef cooked over real fire using local almond and orange wood. He brought in his own wood burning oven for the demo. I only attended one day of the two day show but I'm on the mailing list now and can't wait for future editions. I only learned about the event the day before when I came to the mix mart to pick up some climbing shoes from gear co-op. The Santa Ana winds ruined our climbing weekend and I'm happy I was able to be a part of the inaugural edibles edition of the patchwork show. I hope they do a better job of promoting the next event and get even more people out. It's too cool not to check out.

It was on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was buzzing with activity. There were plenty of people sitting at the bar, and a lot of the tables had multiple people in their parties. We got seated right away, and it only took moments for our server to come by and ask us about drinks. We both ordered a couple ice teas and water, and enjoyed the ambiance. One of the nice things about this place is it definitely has a hometown vibe to it. Like seriously, you feel like you are in someone's home rather than a restaurant. The food came to the table very quickly, and it was very delicious! My friend had the tuna melt and a side salad, it looked huge! You definitely get your bang for the buck here! I opted for something slightly lighter, so I ordered the half Caesar salad with chicken. Chicken. Let me tell you something, I'm glad I ordered the small cuz I can't imagine how huge this salad would be as a large! The chicken breast on top nearly covered the entire bowl of salad! And it was absolutely delicious. The service was top notch, the ambiance was great, and the food was outstanding! They even had some party going on in the back, with just added to the excitement of the place. And on the way out, I noticed they had a thrifty ice cream shop right in the restaurant! So you could grab yourself a single double or triple scoop cone! Bottom line? You cannot go wrong with this place. If you've never been and you're a local, what the heck? You are definitely missing out. If you are in the Huntington Beach area, you definitely have to go to Mama's on 39.

There's patio seating that overlooks the ocean and additional seating right outside of the restaurant in the food hall. The ordering process is simple; if you order a poke bowl, you would fill out a piece of paper indicating your base, choice of poke, toppings, and sauce, and you hand it to the cashier. They have a display of the fish that they offer which helps if you are deciding what to choose. Service is friendly and efficient. I ordered a poke bowl with white rice, 1/4 lb of salmon, 4 toppings (crunchy chili garlic, furikake, pickled ginger, and seaweed salad), and Tommy sauce. The rice was cooked fine and wasn't mushy. However, I think that the salmon was a bit mushy and not as fresh as I hoped. 1/4 lb of salmon is pretty generous though and was a good amount of fish. The toppings were fresh--I just wished that I hadn't gotten the crunchy chili garlic. Wasn't bad, but didn't elevate my poke bowl how I wanted. Also wished that I could have chosen more toppings. The Tommy sauce is their special sauce that's like mayo and is quite flavorful. The poke bowl is on the pricier end, so I probably wouldn't get that if I were to come back but would probably try a burrito instead.
