The GM, Kermit Brawner, personally delivered a gorgeous Mercedes to our hotel. I dutifully took care of the car and filled up the tank before returning. But Dollar decided to charge me 50% on top of what I already paid for the booking, and included extra coverages I declined, plus a range of fees and taxes. Good luck calling their customer service number; you can only fill out an online form whose link is broken half the time, and there has been no response. The Dollar business model is founded on fraud.

So, I have some advice for people in regards to tolls specifically from Dollar as they have one of…read morethe biggest fees for each toll that gets paid through the plate. We had enough time on our road trip to avoid tolls but sometimes you might just not be able to. The first thing I'd try is paying for the toll through an app. Just look and see if you can find one that'll work for your device or have cash readily available to pay tolls if you can. If not do the math, every toll has a $15.00 fee from dollar....I know, even if the toll is $1.00 they will charge you a $15 admin fee per toll. I believe if you pay for the plate pass it's $59.00 or $60 for unlimited tolls, which might be a good idea if you wanna be hassle free and not worry. Just add it when you pick up the car, can't add it later. We picked up our car from Portland, ME and drove through Portsmouth, Salem and to Boston avoiding tolls except one which we were able to pay with cash. From downtown Boston we took the 20 min route to avoid the toll to the rental car drop off by Logan Airport. Otherwise go and check out some other car rental companies to see what they charge for tolls. Just know I am writing this to give people a heads up. I do have to agree it's highway robbery the amount dollar charges for the toll fees. In another hand they were the cheapest rate for the rental for 10 days during this pandemic and shortage of cars.

Get Rent Booked a…read moreseven day mid-size SUV rental (Sun - Sat) thru Costco Travel for an unbelievable rate of $225--that included taxes and all fees! The rental check-in process was super fast and super easy, and the lady (sorry didn't get her name) was fantastic: friendly, efficient, and gave me a free upgrade to a large SUV (Ford Explorer). The car was clean and ran great. The only negative was the car kept spitting out an error code about some rear seatbelt sensor issue, which was mildly annoying but it is a Ford (Fix or Repair Daily) so what do you expect?! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Will definitely rent thru Budget again. Due to flight delay on my recent trip I arrived about 9 hours late. Rather than a usual rental car company that would have already given away my reserved car I arrived and was quickly given my reserved car. The check in for me and all those ahead of me was probably the quickest I have seen. They had 2 people on the desk at 10 pm. Communication was excellent during the rental. Amazing to me as I returned the car before 5 AM they still had someone to receive the car and give me a final receipt. That is unheard of at an airport this size to have someone working that early. Kudos to Enterprise at Portland Jetport, Maine. Will definitely use them again next time thru this area.

I made my reservation online in advance of my trip, so once I landed I just had to navigate from the main airport to the rental area. Everything was well labeled so, so far so good. Truly the only part of check-in I could "complain" about was that the gentleman at the desk who was finalizing the rental was clearly not listening to everything I said. He asked three or four times if I had a preference of the car I got. Truly I didn't - I just needed to drive from Point A to Point B on a Friday afternoon, and back on Sunday. He finally stopped asking me what car I wanted when his female colleague loudly told him to knock it off. (Thank you, ma'am!) I get it, sir: you wanted to be helpful. But I had been up and traveling 12 hours at that point - I'm glad your coworker realized the best way to help me was to just get me on the road. Finally I was set loose to go get my car. This was actually the hardest part. The garage is NOT well labeled or even particularly well lit, so once I had left the building I was quickly turned around. Fortunately garage staff were able to nudge me in the right direction to the car. But seriously: better signage and lighting for the whole garage (and all the rental companies) would be great. That ends the tale of getting the car. Bringing it back was much less eventful - a staff member came over, asked how my trip was, and also asked if I knew anything about a big crack in the windshield that I didn't see when first leaving the dark garage. Fortunately he understood that there was no way I had caused that loooong crack during a two day rental period. It was noted for the team to deal with and off the airport I went. We were told that the rental agreement and all paperwork is emailed to us. I did not get an email so I called the next day. However, you can't get through to the local Avis location. So you speak to someone who is God knows where. And they don't really care. What's up with you or what your issue is. I spoke to Miss Williams. She told me it would take 3 to 5 days to request the paperwork. I spoke to her supervisor. He said that the policy on whether you get a paper copy varies from location to location. I asked to speak to his supervisor. He said he would have someone call me today. Of course I did not hear from anyone. I reached out via email and got a customer service person who responded to my email and now Shawanda says it'll take 5 to 7 days to get my rental agreement. I can get something from Amazon delivered to my home in two hours. But no one can scan a piece of paper and send it via email in under seven days? I just don't believe this. If it's true it's crazy and a terrible business model. however I just can't believe that no one can call the local Avis location and ask them to upload a copy of my rental agreement. There is a local phone number but it rings at a National location. And when I asked for them to transfer me to the local office, they say they can't. it sounds like they should've given me a paper copy of, but alas, I believed the person who is assisting us. I've also tried to reach out to the National Avis email and when I typed in all the information and click send it said something went wrong. try again later. I strongly urge you not to rent a car through Avis. You're paying top dollar for service that is subpar.
